  1. My Hippo tang does the same thing. I have watched closely and it is usually eating the tiny diatobys on the glass. It looks like it is banging itself against the glass, where it is merely chasing the little bugs.

    Oh No :(

A couple of tips. 1) Make sure that the silicon is for Aquarium use. 2) Make sure the place to be fixed is clean and dry before applying. I left mine to dry for about 15 or so hours. Some silicons set faster than others. Daniel

Carpet is now dry. Tank back in place, with tons of silicon in place to stop it leaking again. Now will have to wait and see when filled with water what it decides to do.

Thanks for the offer. Last week I set up my 200 litre tank in the garage running off the same system. So all the rock, corals and inhabitants have moved home

Well I didn't think it would happen but it has. The main display tank approx 300 litres sprung a leak last night. Leaking from where the overflow goes through the bottom of the tank. Todays mission is to try and get the carpet dry Thank goodness for wet and dry vaccuum cleaners
  6. What sort of paint can I use to paint a piece of plastic in my tank black. I need something that is both non toxic and that will last in salt water Is their anything available???? Thanks
  7. Is it a good idea to use a spraybar in a sump, to allow gas exchange? I'm looking at mounting it above the water level and spraying back into the sump.
  8. They seem to like eating all the algae in the tank So I suppose all is good.
  9. What type of fish eat these little critters? They are growing and multiplying like mad. Thanks guys and girls
  10. I found a good solution the other day. Go to your local pet shop, and get one of those plastic heater covers. A small one will do. Take the end piece, (the piece that is enclosed at one end) and slip it over the intake on the power head. Still allows plenty of water through but not the fish. Daniel

  15. Well after close scrutiny it looks like they are diaptomus. Can be clearly seen under 100x magnification. Well I can stop worrying now. Thanks
  16. Is their anyway of identifying these little critters? I can get my hands on a microscope but are their any resources on the web that would help me?
  17. I was sitting watching the tank today, and have noticed hundreds of tiny little white insects? in the tank. They swim around and seem to cling to the glass. They are around 1mm long. They don't seem to attach to the fish. Can Ich be seen free swimming in a tank? Or is this some type of plankton????? Any help would be appreciated. Daniel

Coastlands pet shop can get quite a few different fish in, you only need to go and ask them. Great service and a huge lot of knowledge.
  21. I quarantine all my fish before putting them in my main tank. I think its better to be safe than sorry.
  22. Hi Pies That would be awesome. Can you please email me with further details [email protected] Thanks Daniel
  23. Hi I am after a source of artificial corals, I think they are usually made from polyurethane. There are a few sources in the USA but postage is around $100 usd. If anyone knows of a store/person that sells these in New zealand I would really appreciate knowing who they are. Thanks Daniel
