  1. They're being kept in tropical conditions now. Hmm. I'll get some good pics and we can go from there!
  2. I'll take some pics when I get them. I've seen them around in welly for at least the last year or so.
  3. You're not allowed to sell NZ native shrimp in NZ, I know that.
  4. Pet centre in lower hutt/porirua. I've seen in them in quite a few stores. I assume they're not native.
  5. I'm going to be buying a few freshwater shrimp to put in my 22ish litre tank. Does anyone know what the cheap greyish ones are from petshops? I don't know much about them except that they're cool. What can you tell me about freshwater shrimp? School me!
  6. If you remove the eggs at any point, meth blue and low light can help ward off fungus. No need if you've got the parents there fanning them though
  7. I've successfully raised fry. If it's their first lay leave them - I'd wait until the 2nd or 3rd to remove eggs. You'll want to condition them well before their next lay - feed them meaty foods to do that, and lots of variety. You can often trigger them to lay by doing a big, coldish water change in 3-4 weeks. The fry are itty bitty so can only eat green water for a few days after they become freeswimming. Some might be able to eat BBS after a couple of days, so give them a go. I never had success only feeding BBS from FS though. They prefer very soft water, and it's got to be very clean. You'll want to make sure they always have food available. The parents are often good at raising the fry, but in a community tank like that it's likely they'll get spooked and eat the eggs or wrigglers. Good luck - raising fry is awesome!
  8. I used to have a bubble magnus, and now have an aquaone Aqua One Proskim G220 (I think). The difference I see is there were more bubbles on the bubble magnus, which was better for producing dry skimmate. I think for the price, the aqua one skimmers are pretty good. I also had a reef octopus in sump and another HOB and they did ok - nothing like the aquaone or BM though.
  9. I think it's weird to complain about these prices. If I had the space for these fish, I'd happily pay $400 for them. If you're not willing to pay, they're probably not for you.
  10. Retail at $890+ I used to have a breeding pair and sold 2 batches of babies about 6 or 7 years ago. I was sitting on a goldmine, apparently. Edit: OH JOKES. I can't read. I had choc zebras. My bad, kids.
  11. Hutt/Porirua pet centres are good. I've had shocking service at the Pet Centre in Upper Hutt though (same chain). Animalz in Petone is ok, they sometimes have nice marines and cichlids. There's always Animates, but they're like any other Animates you've ever seen.
  12. You're never going to make money selling guppies. Eventually you'll have so many you'll give them away.
  13. Thanks, I went to Aquaworld - WOW. Went to both HFFs as well - we really miss out in Welly!
  14. I'm in Auckland. I would like to look at some fish shops, particularly ones that stock marine stuff. I've been to HFF in Albany, and was going to see if Mt Roskill is close/on the way to the airport from the north shore. Thanks in advance
  15. I'm not so much of an electro-wiz but I do my best, then get my dad who IS an electro-wiz to check to make sure I won't burn my house down I was thinking of putting in 4x T5HO in there. I guess we'll see what I can source.
  16. It doesn't need much, and colonies can multiply in <24hrs.
  17. At this point I'm pushing my luck getting the puffers at all, so I'll play good gf for a few months then change They're all on a very lightly stocked single 3ft tank to keep the filter media going. It's absurd, but man than tank is clean!
  18. Thanks, ive got a few (12) eheim externals, but it's not an option at this stage for the tank, although I'm hoping I can convince someone to change their mind. I'd rather get an internal until I can convince him otherwise. It's crazy, but he'd rather I spent the money than used an external!
  19. Haha could be it! I'm just going to have a couple of dwarf puffers, so I'm not too worried
  20. Great info, thanks. I've actually had one of each in the past but I forget about their performance!
  21. The plan was to rework them into a light hood, so you wouldn't see them. Thanks for the info, I might flag and find something else.
  22. What would be better for a 50L heavily stocked planted tank? A Eheim Pick up 2010 or an Eheim Aquaball 2210?
  23. I'm considering lighting options for my 50l planted tank *coming soon* and was thinking of rigging 4 of these up. Would they be any good for a heavily planted tank? http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/detail/view/aqua-zonic-led-0-6w/m/2228/
  24. Uh, if they've just been added I can almost guarantee it's pH. Lots of cories are really sensitive to pH changes.
  25. Definitely some sort of irritation. Ammonia would have been my first guess too. Are they flashing on stuff? Could be worms?
