    New Discus!

you're brave haha..I don't introduce discus smaller than 8cm into my adult tank just because they're more likely to get stunted by getting chased from food etc and aggression too
  2. what's this 'controversial' method?? I thought it might be a deformity..know I am more p'ed off than ever  and it looks worse from a side-on view
  3. I defrost mine before handing out, they eat them faster that way (because it's so dense it will take ages to defrost)..my blender broke so now no more tucker till I find new blender lol
  4. here you can blatantly see the arc in its dorsal fins which are still not growing back
  5. it's so gutting..I saved up hard to for those two babies since I quit work cos of uni getting too full on, they didn't even reply to my email..so never trading with that lady again. I have one pic it's the only unblurred pic of them but it can sort of see the dorsal fin of one of them.
  6. not like that, mine has actually got half a ray missing (you're just looked ripped but at least it's still there) it's hard to take photos - tried last night to get a decent photo but failed Like the part of the fin/ray is not there, and doesn't look fresh either..the top dorsal fin of the second discus just looks completely deformed
  7. yup they are, the blue diamonds are a bit stunted in comparison to albino ones of similar age I got from from Vincent. I currently have 8 assorted 3-5cm growing out and these bd's are definately of a lesser quality Could the fin be a genetic deformity though? I doubt the two discus were ripping each other's fins apart during overnight courier
  8. I was recently really disappointed in receiving two 4 months old blue diamond discus, paid $60 each and only 3cm in length. One discus has a missing/broken ray in its dorsal (top) fin as well as one missing/broken ray on the ventral (bottom) fin too, the other discus looks like someone had cut out a semicircle out of its dorsal fin. Can anyone tell me if their fins will regrow to its original or will I be stuck with two discus with fin deformities?
  9. haha I remember I had to go home and tell mum to ring a store in the hutt to give her permission for me to buy my puppy, I was 18 at the time too but apparently I needed the house owner's permission...but like seriously if you were going to spend near $2000 on a pet you would be more than prepared to look after it well especially when you live in your own house  it took more than 2 hours to buy my puppy
  10. how big is your tank? Maybe add some plants to make them think they are able to hide? I've gone through a good half a year of adding and subtracting members to try and make a stable group..and it seems to work now that I have a 6 female:1 male ratio
  11. I did a week's worth of trial run with the discus tucker and for some reason the colours are more vibrant in the week of Discus tucker than colourbits? Same amount of waterchange too so I know it's not that
  12. Here's the first ever background I made for Speedy Gonzale's tank: currently awaiting (funds +) materials to make a grey stoney themed background for Sypro
  13. Yeah all the dwarf rainbow females I have are either dead or dying, they waste away though, males remain healthy :-? don't know what's going on
  14. had one 8cm snow white discus turn up stone cold cos box got shaken and water leaked onto heat pad
  15. depends on the couriers too
  16. one thing I found with treating a planted tank was...my huge tiger lotus died and other plants were getting the deteriorating effect too :-? and you have to gravel vac VERY THOROUGHLY after every treatment during waterchanges..seen a big fat white worm pop out of one discus I got from a petshop, felt completely disgusted lol.

    PM'd hope you've got some!
  18. Maybe a thicker substrate layer?
  19. but presumably she would have been doing similar waterchanges regularly anyway with her Discus and all?
  20. Peppering is normal, it appears more when fish are under stresses from poor water quality or like adodge said dark environments etc - it's only a superficial concern for some
  21. oh not...did you fx5 turn off?? I had this type of thing happen..couldn't work out what it could be then realised it was due to new substrate I added, which increased the pH rapidly. salt and large waterchange tonight should help? Hope your fish will come right..Discus are quite hardy despite their pickyness

    discus help

when I got my batch of 3cm Discus I did 70% w/cs EVERYDAY good results but it's too much work so I paid more for larger ones at around 7/8cm lol NEVER looked back lol the waterchanges are the reason why I haven't tried breeding my pair

wow nice little fat fry and adults! you know first step to ending your addiction is to take away the temptation and send them to me
  24. Hey Sweetysmum, if you give me your email address I can attach a one by one step on how we made this..we took so many photos during the process we're going to take everyone's advice to separate the boys while we're ahead and while no one's been attacked..so that means I will have to make another background for Spyro's tank :bounce: :bounce: (we're giving Houdinni to David's brother since we don't see my mum letting us run three separate tanks... :-? )
