  1. :o Wow, I'd never do that! That is so bad for the fish and too easy to loose them that way from the shock of the temp change. Sure hope you don't have anything expensive in that tank
  2. I just might get one of those and put it on their out door spa pool that runs year round..... And they think that and their water bed don't draw much power
  3. So far I'm taking over a small room as my breeding room and removing a couch, now what to do with the other 6foot..... Do I really need a bed? I could just sleep on a cot really.... right.....right?
  4. Actually the reason to why I want to know is because I live with other people and they are worried that my tanks are going to make the power bill sky rocket. lol. I wanted this so I could let them know before I set up anymore tanks, so no, this doesn't put me off wanting more tanks at all, just trying to figure out where to put them all...... :-?
  5. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I was guessing at around $25 per month. Yes the heaters really throw things off depending on temp of the room, summer to winter and all that. An estimate was what I was looking for and all your input helps heaps. Thanks again. 8)
  6. I'm just trying to figure out roughly what my tanks cost per month to run and wondering if anyone might know the answer... Here's the break-down: 2x - 2w Air pumps 3x - 15w Lights (12hr program) 2w Moon light, (12hr program) 100w Heater, I'm guessing is only on half the time... 300w Heater, same as above 5w Filter 8w Filter by what I've calculated by dividing the usage of the heaters and lights, I came up with 223.5w, so if this is correct what would my monthly cost be?
  7. Oh, just to make it hard again.... Gettysburg

    Nice work ladies, looks great
  9. I completely agree with this. I think the only people that should breed there animals are registered breeders, we end up with too many "man made" creations. I have 2 pure breads of "natural" breeds (Egyptian Mau & Turkish Van) and both are fixed. My other is one that I hand raised from 1 week old after being abandoned.
  10. My best snail eater was a Vampire pleco. Cleaned out over 400 trumpets in 2 weeks and when I ended up with too many ramshorns in my other tanks I tossed them in for them too and never saw them again. However I don't think they're easy to come by or cheap.....
  11. I just use one of those razor blade scrapers
  12. Thanks for that Caryl and MiNcIE. Will see how this guy locally makes out with the first project and try to get in touch with Tank Man about replacing my biggies Maybe I can sell my 2 6foots to cover the cost of 1 acrylic 6foot, I don't have the room for both 6's at the moment anyway, however I don't really need a bed do I???
  13. Yeah will do. Going to have him do up one that's.... 1000x400x500h I'll use that to replace an existing one. I'll get some pic's when done and post them. The other alternative that I was thinking was having some commercially made ones sent here. When I lived in Canada you would see so many of them and I stubbornly went with glass, now after shifting 3 times with all my tanks I've finally had enough. I'm not planning any more moves but I would be much happier too for the piece of mind an acrylic will give during an earthquake.
  14. Thanks for that David R Looks like I've found someone who makes the acrylic too. may have him do a small one first to see how it looks and then possibly replace my larger ones completely..... I know they scratch easy, but the benefits are hard to resist. Although I still like the look of glass better.
  15. Another bonus is that they have more flexibility than glass. Acrylic is very popular in California because in an earthquake the glass will shatter and the acrylic should be able to move with it. I do prefer glass but was considering changing over because of all the benefits. After moving my 6 foots several times, and always needing a small army for them I'm having strong thoughts of changing over. I have looked on TM but couldn't see anything besides "tubular tanks". I was thinking acrylic for a 6-8 foot.
  16. What I want to know is... 1. Does anyone have one? 2. Are they available here? 3. If yes to #2, where can you get them?
  17. That's what I do, I always keep at least 2 filters on every tank. I like back up for my back up and I like to do the overkill on the filtration. This however does help when I set up new tanks or am preparing a fry tank and need to cycle quickly
  18. Nice work with the fish. I lived in Canada for several years and know that there are some places that the power goes out and can stay out for weeks! Good job on keeping yours alive through your ordeal and some great advice for extended power outs.
  19. Sorry to hear about the Discus, I hate it when that happens. I do like to use garlic guard for my fish regularly because of all the benefits of it and I do notice a difference in them being stronger and so forth. Good luck with the rest and lets hope you don't loose any more.
  20. I've reported also to TM White Clouds need a MINIMUM of 24ltrs, not 750ml
  21. Beautiful little girl Congrats :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  22. I'd never buy it. It would only encourage them to sell more
  23. Any suggestion on what a good number of Fronts to keep in the tank would be? Also M/F ratio? Although that could be difficult sexing when young I would imagine. Thanks for all your help Ryan
