  1. I dislike the use of emotive language in a submission like this; makes it very hard to read and form an objective decision. Poor frogs though. Is that their only habitat?
  2. err. how many chemistry and biology books since 2006 have been updated to reflect this?
  3. Well that was an informative read . However I have a slight issue with the definition of osmosis as is defined at the end of the article. It says - I think this is incorrect. Osmosis is simply the movement of water molecules over a semi-permeable membrane from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration. If it is water that moves across the concentration gradient from a zone of high conc. to a zone of low conc., it is osmosis. If any other molecule or particle moves across the gradient it is diffusion. The definition of osmosis should not include the term diffusion, and must not omit the term 'semi-permeable membrane'.
  4. Now you're just teasing me.

    Protomelas

Can be ordered through your LPS
  8. dead easy. order some, and ask the shop to call you when it gets in. only way to get it fresher is by finding some yourself.
  9. just grow it submersed. 2 ways - 1. in 1 or 2 inches of water. 2. the normal method in a full tank. what sort of light was it? evil_elmo has grown it submersed really well. I have too, but like him i destroyed the tank.
  10. google planaria in the aquarium and tell me that's them. planaria is usually caused by overfeeding, and are totally harmless to fish. I suspect the cause of death is unrelated.
  11. yeah, or just starve them. When i first got my checkerboards they refused to eat colourbits in my tank, but ate mainly them at Ron's place. I couldn't be bothered with their antics so i went to new plymouth for a week, fed only the bottom dwellers and when i came back the discus ate what I gave them. I like feeding discus tucker cause i can see their fat little tummies, and the clean up crew do a great job with the extra bits.
  12. I have already been the butt of several jokes among local club members who claim my fish are pressed up against the glass.
  13. you don't need to tell ira that  maybe just keep him alone? maybe he is the chris brown type?
  14. off with their heads! does my tank look like i need to promote growth? My hoods have built in 100% reflectors in them. double the effective light output.
  15. metro treatment for a week. up the water to 30 degrees C with 30% waterchanges every 2 days. if you're treating 1 fish, may as well treat them all. ask ron, he'll know but has probably not seen this post cause its in this section. are those prawns de-shelled and de-veined? These are nice big king prawns. like 6-7cm in diameter. occasionally when i got to New Plymouth or family come here, they get me fresh ones from the fisherman.
  16. That piece of wood I put in started rotting it in the tank. I washed it and left it in the bathroom and man did it stink! The white stuff was like a fungus and killed 3 of my baby GBA's thankfully the puffers and the bumble bee goby are fine. Did a 90% water change last night. So the wood is out, and the tank is presently being made into a blackwater tank with the puffers in it. I may add another small piece of drift wood to the tank at a later stage, if i can buy the right looking piece.
  17. water stays at pH 7 and does not fluctuate. no idea about hardness, i don't really measure any of those things to be honest  . there is a layer of calcium shells under a 2inch layer of gravel for the swords. Ill do a hardness test and let you know what the result is at. Added another dozen cardinals today
  18. awesome... one of my favourite killifish for sure.
  19. those have a snakeskin gene! I was going to buy some like that. but i want to know what they look like when they get older.
  20. Yes, I believe that is it. However it does not go red like the pictures on the internet. it stays this beautiful light green colour. the stalks are extremely brittle and it needs strong light. for a stem plant it is relatively slow growing. Thanks!
  21. Ididn't know about the 2 strains or what ever they are. when i had mine i recall reading something about them on planet catfish. i spend a lot of time on PC
  22. can you at least call him pedro? is the red a proper red or the red lizard type?
  23. hahah yea.. it can be addictive. i just spent ages with my hands in a tank fixing it, and they are all wrinkly. post pics when you can. The prawn is like $50 or so for a 1kg bag. They get like 1 prawn every 2 weeks or so, and I go through the rest pretty quick. ive found lancelotas, royals and red whiptails to be very active and not shy at all.
