  1. you should make your 1200 a planted dutch tank
  2. I ahve tried many things to catch them in my old backyard in birkenhead in auckland. closest i came was when i put my tame lorikeet in the garden and made him stay under a laundry basket rigged with a stick on a string and his favourite ball under the basket. 1 rosella came to see what he was and i almost got him... almost... it was a priceless sight.
  3. They are cheap enough at retail.
  4. I think henward; for the first time ever. you have too many fish and not enough space in the tank The world as I know it has come to a halt.
  5. sadly past experience has shown that firenzenz is right. I'm all for capitalism though so lets see what the market is willing to pay for the little shell dwellers.
  6. its called the wholesale market
  7. I feed my hypans and whiptails raw king prawn  and a whole range of bottom feeder foods. They occasionally eat better than I do  nymox - that price is pretty consistent with the expected price of a lancelota.
  8. How much was it for? The black whiptails as phil calls them are only available through him, not the wholesalers - so unless that shop bought some from him (what shop is this?) it is most likely not a black whiptail... if such a thing exists. lancelota colours can vary a bit from that colour to a darker pattern. There is added confusion that I am presently trying to decipher with the "filamentosa" whiptails.
  9. That's one of philip collis's isn't it? No positive ID on that one but it is a very pretty fish. i personally like the lancelotas - viewtopic.php?f=23&t=43678&hilit=lancelota+camo
  10. They are on the import list (unless that has changed recently) but are not on the wholesale list at the moment.
  11. he has some auctions on trademe at the moment - none for the food you are talking about Milena. Ive contacted him via pm and he will get back to me. ill keep you posted firenzenz.
  12. what is this black whiptail they had? can you find a pic of it online or something?
  13. Punishable by the death sentence in my tank. My synos are trained to not eat small fish and uproot plants. Even my old syno daintily edges around the plants as she moves about.
  14. wow, cool! you have me convinced to contact him and buy some to see how it works. my hypans would love it.
  15. They are pretty cool! I want some
  16. could just be the weakest of the lot. they tend to have a hierarchical structure from what I have noticed with my red eyes...
  17. The "even spotted syno" "(petricola)" [as is mentioned on one list] should retail for about $100 or so, bit less if the store is locally owned and has lower overheads associated with a one off customer order, bit higher if it has to sit in the tank. cuckoo's / multipunctatus should be about $60-$70 each retail. There is a staggering price difference between the 2 fish. Nymox - Ask the store what it was purchased as if you are very keen on an ID. I will agree with firenzenz on this one.
  18. bigger tank, more hiding place. if you are constrained with tank space like me, you may have to resort to thinning out more dominant personalities. I removed my red rose from the tank and my checkerboards are out and swimming for the first time in weeks.
  19. I would not ID it just yet. There are a few species it could be; petricola and multipunctatus jump to mind, however the patterns on your syno are relatively off from what I would have imagined. maybe firenzenz will know cause he has bred multipunctatus in his tank. A lot of synos change colours drastically as they mature and have 3 stages of colour and pattern development from juvenile, sub-adult and then adult. Euptera is a great example of this. Can't comment on what you have though - those large spots at the back are throwing me off.
  20. I can't use centimetres unless its for a small measurement like something that will fit on a piece of paper. If its under 30cm / 1 foot I convert it to inches and cm in my head. I use kg's and feet and inches. millimetres completely throw me off and confuse the hell out of me.
  21. Oh very nice! your syno is what comes in as an "even spotted syno" (I think this one is too) from one of the wholesale lists. They like being in groups and come from Lake Tanganyika in Africa. They breed in a very unique manner, using some unsuspecting mouth brooding cichlids as a 'nanny' for their eggs. post more pics as your whiptail settles in! I love these royals.
  22. The wholesale list is very specific. you can either buy an otocynclus, or you take take a leap of faith and buy an otocynclus.
