  1. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=65309 Will take a pic tonight.
  2. Spotted my two largest royals or together tonight, good chance to photograph them (almost) side by side showing the different patterns. Hope copying the attachments from Monsterfishkeepers works!
  3. $10 plus shipping, good sized root mass, I've cut the top off to reestablish in my tank so this one should take off quickly. Great for consuming nitrate. PM me if you want it!
  4. it certainly does effect the colour, but I'm not sure about the markings? I know the wild caught dels often have better markings (more solid black bands, rather than the mottled look of captive bred), but what ever they are these ones are great!

    a new setp up

There are over 1600 named species of Cichlid (and possibly that many again still undescribed) ranging over three continents and an incredibly diverse range of habitats, and growing anywhere from 2" to 3' in length. You many need to be a little more specific! But I'm going too hazard a guess that you're talking about African Rift Lake cichlids. I'll let one of the more knowledgeable keepers answer the first four questions (South American cichlids are more my thing), but as for the last question, you certainly don't need a sump, but you do need good strong filtration (and regular water changes) to keep the water clear and healthy. It doesn't matter whether that comes from a sump, or canister, or any other method, although the oldschool UGF is generally avoided as the digging habits of many cichlids will render them useless.
  6. Interesting set up, it has often vexed me how to have an open drain for an automated system without having it "accidentally" drain too much water if the power goes out. The best system I came up with [theoretically] would have a float valve to automatically re-fill the sump if after a power cut the level drops below the safe operating level for the pump, but what you've done there is fairly simple and should work well in your case.

    Uaru

:nfs: Beautiful pair have they spawned yet?
  8. Ron I hope you brought in enough for me!!!
  9. Just mixed up the second batch of this, it's pretty easy once you get the idea! I'll try post a video or some pics this afternoon, the uaru and royals love it!

    Uaru

Yeah still no pics of mine sorry, two more weeks of working away then I'm home and you might get lucky! They're growing like weeds now, first fish to attack the Repashy food I got from KrazyGeoff. aldrichdg, I give that lovely piece of java fern two months tops.... :sml1:

    Uaru

Hehe they're pretty fast alright, especially in a good sized tank with plenty of food. Smaller mouths, but they nearly rival the Oscars pig-like status at feeding time IME.
  12. We'll see... My Kitchen Rules, Aquarium edition...
  13. Herbie will be fine, the third pipe on the bean_animal one is just for a back-up. I have two 50mm drains running [sort of] Herbie style, which gives me nearly double the capacity needed which is fail-safe enough for me. With my tank it's very unlikely anything large enough to completely block a 50mm drain could get into the overflow.
  14. Got a couple of jars on their way, will post results this weekend! :happy2:
  15. Just so long as it doesn't make them fussy, still got buckets of NLS to use up!
  16. I've fed nothing but NLS for the past few years, but it looks like this stuff is worth trying!

    Uaru

Yep,better than any pleco for cleaning wood, and the bit marks only get more noticeable as they grow!

    Uaru

Just got home from two weeks away and the young uaru are looking good! Got the slightly spotty semi-adult colours, eye colouring up nicely, eating well, fins all healed. Water change tomorrow, might bust out the camera on Sunday!
  19. I agree it certainly has a lot of blue in the scales for a regular gold, not that that is a bad thing!!
  20. Very pretty, nice blue colour on the scales. What variety is it? Is it one of the ones recently imported by Redwoods?
  21. Looking good!! 18mm ply should be fine so log as you don't go crazy tall with it. Looking forward to seeing it progress.
