All-time favourite song or currently most-listened to? If I had to pick just one song it would probably be Thru The Eyes Of Ruby by Smashing Pumpkins. Currently the first song I put on when I open winamp is White Man In Hammersmith Palais by The Clash. Movie, hmm Snatch is always good to watch even if you've seen it countless times. So many memorable quotes... "D'ya laik dags?' "dags" "ye, dags" "oh, you mean dogs. yeah I like dogs, but I like caravans more"

What are the distinguishing features between the two named species and the un-names sp? I thought hey would have been separated at subspecies level rather than species.

There is no such thing as "will be" with animals. Generally two males will fight, but there may be exceptions, it wouldn't be the first time.

Yikes! I remember when a friend moved here from SA the rand and NZ$ were about equal!! Those prices are crazy, it would definitely be worth it trying to contact a zoo to help you bring them in.

To a certain degree. I usually rinse the stuff in my sump in between replacing it. It will soon become a nitrate-factory if left full of dirt and uneaten food. I learnt the hard way about rinsing it out too often, it clogged up with too many fine particles and wouldn't drain the water fast enough, causing hte top of the sump to overflow.

Best bet would be a custom made glass tank tot he dimensions you want, and a wooden or steel cabinet made to measure. $500 may be pushing it if you want a nice customwood (or rimu) stand, maybe try trademe.

I guess you could make a dry insulated house for it to brumate in, and have a heat lamp running to keep the temp up? -
I feel the same way about fish, my gf (accountant) wants to go to england to earn more once she's a CA, I want to go so I can keep rays and polypterus etc!! :lol:

At the end of the day who is to say what an "adequate home" for a fish in captivity is? Some would say if the water is clean and the fish is healthy then its all good (ie Japanese-style tanks), others would claim that tinfoil barbs need to be kept in schools of 10+ and in 12'+ length tanks so they can swim freely. Either way, I'm sure this gourami will grow old and happy. Helen at HFF is old as the hills and doesn't seem worried about not having a 3' wide tank.

My sump gets new filter wool every second water change (about every 10 days at the moment), and in comparison cleaning out a canister is a big mission so i usually don't bother. Its probably been at least six months, I really should do it soon... :lol:

Not sure exactly what it is, but I always find a bit of gunk spews out of the pipes and into the tank when my canister filters have been unplugged or disturbed. You could try running it into a bucked first (hook the intake pipe to the outlet to flush it) to catch the stuff, but I usually don't worry about it.

Yeah, as said above, I'm not "trying to teach the newbie a lesson" or anything like that, just chipping in my 2c. I'm glad to see this ones gone to a good home, I'm sure a lot of them end up dead/stunted in 2' tanks, just like pacus and oscars

Cool, I havent seen them for sale for ages!! Good luck with the breeding, I'm sure the babies would be worth a bit if you did.

I'd do some serious thinking about that option. Can you imagine trying to move a 2' giant gourami? And how easy is it going to be finding a home for it?
