  1. Stella I can't imagine that working with a 12" red devil!!
  2. I guess because they're not pets the old screwdriver behind the eye works fine...
  3. Me too! I very much doubt that cutting off the head is instant, the brain would retain some function for long enough to feel some pain I'd imagine. Here's an interesting article on the subject; http://www.loaches.com/disease-treatmen ... in-the-sky I've lost count of the number of times I've posted it here! Its good to hear the clove oil works well on large fish, where do you get it from?
  4. Lucky bugger, I'm sitting at work bored and wishing I was riding...
  5. Saw it on MFK [i think] the other day, couldn't stop giggling every time I( thought of it!
  6. Haha they're a little confusing at first, but once you figure it out its simple, and you shouldn't have to touch it again.
  7. What makes you say that africans are more colourful than american fish? Look at the tetras, geophagus, apistos, central american cichlids, peacock bass, pikes, etc etc etc. Reef fish do tend to be brighter coloured than fresh water, I'm guessing its for a variety of reasons, camouflage, attracting mates, scaring off predators etc.
  8. The digital ones are great, I've never had a problem with one yet. They've even got a little battery so they don't lose their settings if the power goes off.
  9. Meh, its probably cheaper than McDonalds.... and more nutritious!
  10. AFAIK The list only goes down to species level, different varieties or subspecies don't matter. Not sure what happens when its an unidentified species (eg; Tropheus Sp. 'Ikola'), maybe just ask them to call it moorii.
  11. Its pushing it, being from central america rather than south they aren't used to such warm water. What other fish are in there? I'l say set the temp at around 27-28C and add salt and whitespot cure.
  12. If the fish are well fed and healthy it won't be a problem. And a timer from Bunnings is only about $7.50.....
  13. Not that its a competition. I hope I haven't started anything...
  14. Sorry to hear that. Quite timely, I just got home to find my 4' tank at 30C because I forgot to unplug the faulty heater (no thermostat) I use to help warm the water up faster after a big water change!
  15. Don't make me try!! I don't think africans are more colourful, I can think of many new world cichlids that would give an african a run for its money. Salvini, texas, nicaraguense, festae, umbie, red bay snooks, some geophagus, gold saum, etc. Granted we don't see all of those here. I think africans have a reputation as being more colourful as you can have a heap of small fish with different paint jobs in the same tank so its full of colour. Anyway, sorry for the hijack, I know you weren't putting down the american cichlids!!
  16. But no where near as much rigidity side-on, so it would only work as a cover on a 4x2 or steel frame, not as the structural material for the cabinet. I think a frame made of 4x2 or steel that is then enclosed with ply or MDF is the way to go. I painted my MDF stand well (like 4 thick coats of undercoat then a couple of layers of satin black sprayed on top) and it still expanded when I overflowed the sump.
  17. Is that also because she meowed outside your bedroom window until you gave in? Foxjxa, I how you didn't take my last post personally, I wasn't trying to be rude but it did come across that way a bit now that I re-read it. I agree with conch, just live with it for now (either ignore the meowing or hide the make up) as she'll soon grow out of it. Hopefully.
  18. Whats that supposed to mean?!
  19. Are you one of those people who lock their cats out at night so they can roam and make a nuisance of themselves by crapping in peoples gardens, fighting with other cats, killing native wildlife, going into other peoples houses for food etc?
  20. A single large male texas or flowerhorn would have nice colour in a 250L.

    Condensation

Until the rafters start rotting.... Probably not likely to get that bad unless you've got an indoor pond tho.
  22. Who was it that figured out you could get milk from cows and what the heck was he doing at the time?!
