  1. With my 3 150w MH I could only have them on for 3 hours during the day. The rest of the time was the T5HO. It's just the balance I found to work for my tank with my dosing of ferts and co2. You will have to find that balance as every tank is different .
  2. I forgot about cable ties. I have done that before. Ill have to get some long ones because i have some big rocks to tie up. Thanks.
  3. I am about to start planning my layout for my marine tank. FOWLR I have read a fair amount of information on how to stack and build a scape but was wondering if people with experience can give advise on what they have tried before. Options i have: 1. Just stacking securely with big rock on the bottom and smaller on top. 2. Using epoxy putties to cement them together. 3. Drilling holes through the rock and threading them onto PVC pipes or plastic rods. (I don't know what sort of plastic rod to use or where to buy it). 4. Drilling holes and using wooden dowels. The dowels swell when wet and hold strong. (Wouldn't the wood rot over time)? I Still haven't decided what look I am going for yet but I really like big overhangs and tall columns as well as smaller islands. Not too keen on the fully stacked rock tank. I want this scape to look good and be aquascaped.
  4. Well the fish is dead this morning. Looks to be Ich got the best of it. hundreds of tiny shiny dots on it. Could that be velvet? Ive read velvet attacks the gills first and by the time you see it on the body it can be too late. But the fish wasn't breathing heavily like the symptoms say it should have.
  5. PS because I can never use a Xbox controller. I am too use to a PS. Microsoft because all the programs I use at work don't work so well on a Mac. Even though I use a Mac every day and their hardware looks soo much nicer. PC yes, Macs no. I AM A MAC HATER! :sml2:
  6. Yes it looks quite stressed already. I definitely think it is Ich now having a closer look at it. I have read about a freshwater dip to help relieve the Ich, it kills the Ich on the fish and gives the fish a chance to recover if put into QT. However it would get infected straight away again if I put it back in my tank. Has anyone got experience with this?
  7. I don't think it is velvet as it isn't showing velvet symptoms. Breathing is slow. The fish is just lying there now, I want to do something but I don't know what. I hope it doesn't die tonight if I just wait and ride it out.
  8. Tank is a RSM 130 2x blue/green chromis 1x Naso Tang 1x cleaner shrimp 1x linckia starfish 1x RBTA various corals etc. Today at midday I noticed my Naso Tang lying in the back of the tank. I thought he was dead so gave him a nudge and he swam out around the tank ad then settled down in the back again against a rock and seemed to be resting. My fist reaction was to do a water change fast. So changed 20% of water (forgetting to save some for tests) And I had to get back to work. I cam home at 5.30 and noticed he was still in the back of the tank. He seen me come to the tank and he came out like he always does expecting food. He is now swimming around the tank all wobbly and looks dazed. He has gone dark with the usual gray spots when they are stressed. So I did water tests on the tank now I had time. Ammonia 0.0 Nitrite 0.0 Nitrate 0.0 pH 8.2 Phosphate 2.0 - 5.0 Only thing I have done different since I added him 3 weeks ago is a 150mm dia Brain coral last Saturday. After close inspection of the Tang when he stopped in a corner I think I can make out tiny white spots on his fins and possibly on his body. If it is Ich then the spots are a LOT smaller than what I am use to on freshwater fish. So small I wouldn't even have considered is as Ich Would Ich cause my Tang to be acting like this or is it something else? Some advise would be very helpful as all this marine stuff is new to me and I don't have a lot of experience.

    Hello....

Welcome Where abouts in Southland are you?
  11. I have just got a bubble magnus curve 7 skimmer after reading good reviews about it. I havent used it yet but i will let everyone know in my build thread when im ready to start my tank.
  12. I did add it a bit early but I have to buy things as soon as they come up for sale down here because they are not always available. I reckon it has doubled in size since I bought it. Its growing fast.
  13. Can you still reach over into you sump easily? It doesn't look like there is much room. And make sure you don't drop things behind the sump, pain in the ass when that happens :an!gry The stand is looking awesome though, very strong. I like the tank too
  14. This thread maybe? http://fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=60828&p=655003&hilit=commercial+guys&sid=e0b14e799063361ac4ffbd54126d193f&sid=e0b14e799063361ac4ffbd54126d193f#p655003 He was giving bad advise and he didn't like people saying he was wrong.
  15. I got a Naso tang a while ago and it has done a great job at keeping the algae away. My tanks cycle has got to a point where the algae has started to die off now. I am careful with my feeding and everything else so I don't add any unwanted phosphates. I have added the purigen to help. All the green algae has gone and now just the odd spot of red slim is left but it is slowly turning black and disappearing. I have the lights on for 6 hours a day at the moment. Does anyone know if I could start to extend these hours out longer? Or would that just promote more algae growth?
  16. The tank is looking good. That plant looks awesome too. Ill have to come check out the flowers sometime. The tank looks like it could do with some dwarf sag along the front if you want some...
  17. Natural salt water, if you were asking what NSW ment.
  18. With my sump I had two overflow pipes going to the sump. One had a valve to reduce it until it had a full siphon. This stopped air being sucked in, reducing added oxygen. And the second covered the extra overflow of water if the level got too high. eg. 1st pipe blocks up or siphon doesn't take full load. My sump worked perfectly fine for me with my planted setup. I guess you have to set it up properly for it to work. As said above, you need to reduce any extra aeration to the water or Co2 levels need to be increased. And the fish don't like that so much if the Co2 gets too high.
  19. Wouldn't getting them to post it to you be cheaper than driving to get it? Shouldn't be more than a few dollars.
  20. Hollywoods have it sometimes I have found it hard to come by. Usually lighting manufacturers have it and sell it cheap too.
