  1. Yep. We had quite a few some months ago at pure aquatics... Haven't heard of anyone breeding them.
  2. Aggression will last as long as she is protecting eggs or fry.. Seems to get worse just prior to fry becoming free swimming..
  3. Trifisciata wrigglers from a new spawn... Hard to make out. This female Macmasteri spawned in a sock full of peat...
  4. Hey Dennis. To be on the safe side I always remove my Males to another tank. Even though the females are small they are that aggressive that they can kill a male, although this is not a problem in a large tank with plenty of hiding places. I had a Female Macmasteri that was like that....
  5. Exciting! Watch out for the tetras... the fry will slowly disappear. (first hand experience)
  6. Looks good Dennis. Female Apisto will not be able to defend in such a small space.
  7. :cophot: Awesome. Looks great.
  8. Sounds like it can be caused by an injury if just in one eye. I just googled this.. http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/disease/popeye.php
  9. That's no good Dennis/Fruju. I had my breeding Super Red cockatoo die from a similar affliction a few months ago. Maybe the start of pop eye? Get on to it quick as I left mine too long.
  10. I have heard the same thing Dennis.. My Betta's would often spawn just prior to a storm. Still waiting for some pics.. :spop:
  11. Another batch of eggs from a separate female today and a batch of free swimming blue ram fry as of yesterday Hopefully this lot of blue ram fry don't disappear. This lot of Trifisciata fry are growing well.
  12. I think given the chance they probably would. I would minimize this by trying to feed the fish in separate areas of the tank so that she doesn't have to venture to far from the eggs to feed.
  13. Hey Fruju. That's good that they have spawned again. Maybe provide them with a small terracotta pot with a small opening or a piece of bamboo pipe. The confined space will keep the eggs from harms way and the female will feel more secure.
  14. Excuse the state of the tank... You may be able to just pic up the fry in the first pic. 2nd pic is mum in an aggressive stance.
  15. Thanks all . @ Fruju.. No this is a female from one of my original fish in 2 to 3 years ago.
  16. After a long layoff, my Trifisciata have finally got free swimming fry from a small female which has produced around 20 to 30 free swimming fry. Will add some pics in the coming days
  17. Hi Howsie. Hongsloi are a beautiful Apisto but you may not be able to find a male to go with the female. I see Hollywood's have Trifisciata pairs on their stock list so maybe try for some of those. They are an elegant small Apisto with plenty of character. I have got a small spawn of these free swimming today. Out of all of the Apisto's I have found the Macmasteri the easiest to keep and breed. I have a few of these that will be ready in a month or two. Sieve through previous threads on this forum on info on Apisto's and you should be able to gather plenty of valuable info on keeping any of these great little dwarf Cichlids. Good luck
  18. All good Dennis. Tannins are good!
  19. Chances are they would get picked off by the other inhabitants Fruju, but you never know.. If you have plenty of hiding places you may be able to save some Is yours a species only tank Dennis? Would love to see some pics
  20. They more than likely did Dennis. Along with the aggressiveness the female usually becomes a nice yellow colour. Feed them up and provide good water conditions and they should spawn again in another 3 weeks or so. And some pics please
  21. Hey Fruju. Well done on the spawn. The Agassizi are very nice fish. I bred these a few years ago and ended up with about 60 fish.. Only 4 males from memory. And yes the eggs will be a light orange/pinkish colour but will quickly turn whitish if infertile. I usually left the parents with the fry until free swimming then removed the male. I would leave the female with the fry for a good while to give them a good start. And as you said, they may eat the first batch. Just be wary of the female with eggs as they can be very aggressive to other fish, including the male, when protecting the eggs. Good luck
  22. Awesome article here on breeding Cardinal Tetra's can be applied to Neon's. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=154
  23. :cophot: Loving all your pics. Feel free to add more
