  1. On the subject of clown loaches, does anyone else's sleep on thier sides? I have 2, and recently I rearranged my tank, and closed up a gap where they used to hide alot so that I could see them more. Ever since I did this, they have started sleeping on top of the rock, and slowly roll onto their side or sometimes even on their back as they fall asleep! At first I was alarmed, and thought they were sick, but now they do it every night. I will try and get a photo to show.

    co2

Oh, I see. I guess increasing the co2 levels increases plant growth, but it seems strange to do this when it is also common practice to try and increase o2 levels to try and keep the fish happy.
  3. Chimera, I use dechlorinators in my water when I do partial water changes (about 15% weekly). What do you mean the "inevitable"?

    schist

If anyone is looking for rocks, stones, pebbles etc. in the auck. region, Eden stone and water world in Marua rd. Ellerslie is worth a look. Some things are expensive and many may be unsuitable, but they have a HUGE range.
  5. It's about 400mm deep. Is there a simple way to check the potassium levels in the water?

    gidday

Hi everyone, My name's Rob, and I just found this website last night. I've only recently got a computer, and am amazed at the wide variety of stuff to be found on the 'net. Any way I've had a 200l tank set up for about 6 months now, and it contains what I guess are all pretty common tropicals: Indian striped gourami, Honey gourami, clown loaches, khulie loaches, sword tail, angel, pleco, and some tetras. anyway I look foward to visiting this site regularly. cheers Rob.
  8. Thanks Chris, that is alot cheaper than any of the bulbs I have seen in any of the pet stores.
  9. My tank also had a high ph about 7.6 I used proper ph 7.0 and it brought it back down for a while (2 months maybe)
  10. Thanks. That will save me $60 or so on a new tube then.

    co2

What is co2? O.K. I Know it is carbon dioxide but I have seen people talking about "putting it in". How do you "put it in"? and what is it for?
  12. Gidday, I have a 200 litre tank, which is my first tank and has been set up for about 6 months now. I have a flourescent light which is 1200mm long. It is just an ordinary tube i.e. not a special aquarium one. I want to get a proper tube but am not sure about which are best. The blue ones look cool, but are they only for saltwater? Also Should it be on all day long? At the moment I just turn it on for an hour or 2 in the evenings. Some of my plants are looking a bit scraggly (brown arond the edges) could this be from not enough light? any suggestions would be appreciated.
