  1. Have you checked out http://www.loaches.com/ ? There are a lot of threads on hillstream loaches.
  2. Inside Oceans. In the phone book. Really nice to deal with.
  3. If you are in Wanganui and this did happen then you must have had your tank on a very insecure stand.
  4. I was in bed and got out in a flash. Was holding the tank with no lids. Water sloshed out anyways. Lasted for a good minute here. Felt like a 5.0 by the time it got here.
  5. Clean the powerhead. Take apart the impeller assembly and remove any gunk in it.
  6. Hmmmm blue eyes does it for me. One look and it is all over.
  7. That is hilarious. Between 2 and 8 is a perfect age imo. So inquisitive and they understand you.
  8. I love the redfins, second fish down. What's their name?
  9. yup pond snails are pond snails. they do better in a heated tank too.
  10. When I had mystery snails they bred a lot. Each clutch is layed above water line every 3-4 weeks. Has 200-300 eggs. Around 95% hatch rate and they eat algae rather than plants. Grow fast. Ramshorn clutches are only 10-12 eggs every 3 weeks from what I have observed.
  11. I thought it could be the rubber mounts. I switched the rubber mounts around and the impeller shaft. It is quiet atm. Will order a replacement.
  12. My Powerhead is 1200lph. I clean it regularly. It has started becoming noisy. A rattly noise. Do I need a new impeller? Or new Powerhead?
  13. I would hazard a guess to say that no fish doesn't like wood. They don't really care. Plecos need it to help digestion. Some like hiding under it. In a 60L BNs and a Betta would just about do it. Depending on the temperament of the Betta. Perhaps half a dozen small tetra's or rasbora's.
  14. The wood has been a deck for the last 40 odd years. It has dried swollen and shrunk a whole bunch. It has been stored for the last year in the garage. I screwed each join on 3 sides. Each join has a minimum of 10 screws. I wasn't leaving much to chance. I braced both flat sides and each end of each vertical brace to stop any movement.
  15. I guess my next stand will have diagonals in it then. Thanks for that.
  16. Yes. Cut some sponge to the fit in the top of the basket, punch a hole in the center that is slightly smaller than your filter hose diameter. Put together and bingo.
  17. Yeah but it would depend on what colour you wanted. Just like how fruit salad goldfish bowl pea gravel doesn't go with anything.......
  18. There have been a few threads over the years. One of the biggest issues as I remember it was sourcing fine enough silica sand so that it got pushed up the the top again. It does look cool though.
  19. KiwiPete I don't mind criticism. I don't fully understand your point about folding. The stand is 80cm high. I have braced the middle of the beams. The beams are heart Rimu = very solid and hard and solid and hard and firm and inflexible. With the tank on it doesn't rock or shudder or move. In what way will cross straps help?
  20. Whetu that is such a GORGEOUS tank. You have done so well. The effect is amazing. As for the intake you could get an extension pipe and lower the grill behind the plants.
  21. Perfect for a pair of Cockatoo's! Anyone selling any? hint hint Next weekend I am buying a school of Columbian Tetra's for this tank all going well. The tank I emptied into this tank, to move is going to have Pearl Geo's.
  22. ps. I have no skill at DIY or carpentry. Turned out fine. Took about 7 hours all together over 3 days.
