    The What's Up? thread.

Thanks I don't really like the colouration on those fish though, and I'm also not interested in cacatuoides at the moment - I just want to stick to smaller species like the trifasciata. The male in the 3rd pic doesn't look very nice at all either. It would be cool if we got some bitaeniata, I really want those :bounce: I'm getting some more trifasciata from Danval. He said some aren't sexable yet, and that so far he can only tell males. So I'm just going to wait until all the fish are sexable because I don't want to end up with a group of fighting males
  2. Great job on breeding these  They're looking gorgeous
  3. Dude I feel gutted for you :tears: :an!gry How is that a favour? If they were provided with instructions and told how to look after them properly, and they just went and disobeyed those intructions, how on earth is that a favour? I have had to look after people's pets before. I always do exactly what the intructions say, and I also ask them to go through it with me before they leave, and I phone them if I am having any difficulties. I could understand if he wasn't provided with any information as to how much to feed them. But the fact that he had instructions on how to look after them and he mistreated them by polluting their tank is just wrong. I definately don't think that sueing him is going too far :an!gry
  4. Hazara - Your fish AREN'T cockabullies. Cockabullies are a type of saltwater fish, a triplefin I think. They're the ones that you see in rock pools. The freshwater ones are just called 'Bullies'.
  5. I keep mine anywhere from 23-30C throughout the year. Our house isn't properly insulated, so my room is freezing in the winter and extremely hot in the summer. What is an 'Old girl'? I've never heard of that species of fish before :dunno: Maybe give us a link to some info about it or a photo of it, and also the specifications and water parameters of your tank which will make it a bit easier for us to help you

I lost two Trigonopoma pauciperforata ages ago - one jumped out of the tank, and one got infected with something and they're only $4 fish so I destroyed it to protect the rest of my fish. I sold my Black Neons, and I did lose two Emperor Tetras to dropsy but it was unrelated to the Apistogramma trifasciata dying - I think they got it from overfeeding. Whenever I feed blackworms the Emperors are so annoying! I have to chase them away and try not to feed them too much because they gorge themselves.

I posted a thread about my remaining Apistogramma trifasciata having dropsy in the disease section, and she fully recovered. However, she got pop-eye a while later, and then got dropsy again. Yesterday she looked so bad I decided to put her out of her misery. So I lost all four of my trifasciata, $45.00 each and I didn't even get a chance to breed them properly (I did get some fry in the tank and put them in a net breeder, but they got sucked through the mesh by the other fish and eaten)

Check out this marine tank - http://www.youtube.com/user/whatafather/videos It uses two Aqua Illumination Sol LED fixtures, which run cool unlike a halide. I reckon you could try something like this. The tank isn't actually that big. Also this tang tank is awesome !drool: If it was rectangular like a standard tank it would look even better
  9. Wow it's looking great Sam! I don't think I'll ever contract the platy virus. Apistos are my kind of thing. If anything, I'll probably become obsessed with minifish and/or catfish next
  10. Gorgeous tank I love your stocking choice - tetras are really cool
  11. Beautiful stand !drool: I really love the door handles

I hate the horrible weather we've been having these last few days I wish it would rain again :happy2: The temperature of my aquarium was sitting at 30C, so I did a 50% waterchange with cold tapwater. That got the temp down to about 25C and the plants are looking a lot happier
  13. Awesome photography That saddleback thing cracks me up :sml1:
  14. Got Sophia's oak leaves, now I'm just waiting for Liam's I went and got some sandpit sand from Mitre 10 Mega yesterday. It is a lovely earthy ochre colour. Also got a timer for the light, and a six-outlet powerstrip with individual switches. The tank has also been moved on to its stand, but I still can't set it up yet because I need the light bulb, decor, polystyrene or something for it to sit on, the heater, light stand and some test kits.
  15. The green Acorus doesn't survive for very long submerged. Don't waste your money on it. Also get rid of that silver shark. Your tank is far too small for it. They grow to about 35cm long and need a lot of space. http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?id=762
  16. Looks great Sam, I really like your needle leaf fern  I'm really looking forward to the progress of this tank

I love it when it rains :happy1:
  18. If it is tuberculosis, I would destroy the fish and sterilise the tank. As the fish have bent spines, and I assume this cannot be reversed, nobody will want to buy deformed discus so to destroy them seems the best option IMO. HTH and I'm really sorry about your situation :tears:

Just went to Caryl's and pulled out all of the Rotala indica in her tank and replanted some cuttings so it looks a lot neater now
  20. Wow it looks really good. Nice work IMO the stargrass doesn't really suit the layout that well, and it looks quite messy to me. I think maybe some Bolbitis or Java fern in that corner would look nicer. Or if you still want stem plants, either Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig', Rotala rotundifolia, Hemianthus umbrosum or Hemianthus micranthemoides would look awesome
