  1. Yeah I love those green neons. I've been wanting some ever since I knew they existed. Hollywoods said that they have some (see the "fish of interest" thing that they posted in the Commercial Trade and Exchange) but I want photos for proof - I would hate to buy some and for them to be normal neons or some neon mutation.
  2. Lol just realised I forgot the "L" in hongsloi in the title  Edited
  3. This video is of Apistogramma hongsloi and pencilfish in their natural habitat, and then it shows them in a tank at the end of the vid. Skip to 2:27 for the fish bit. The first part is the tank setup (which is pretty boring IMO  ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlPi8Sk4GAU&feature=plcp
  4. Yay good on you for wanting to keep dwarf cichlids :happy2: They're awesome :happy1:

    The What's Up? thread.

Did you use Instagram for that photo?
  6. I would love to have a brine shrimp hatchery but I really don't have any room because everything is a mess - my tanks aren't on proper stands and everything isn't tidy and there really isn't any room for live food cultures which really sucks Although luckily they are eating the flake now which is good. Also I am going to try those pearly things that Sophia mentioned (thanks Sophia )

    The What's Up? thread.

Just took the male hongsloi to the courier to go to Bilbo. It is the first time I've ever shipped fish so I hope all goes well. I got to the courier just before 5pm which is when they close because I didn't want to have the fish all packed and just sitting on the table waiting for the courier. I want it to be in the box for as little time as possible. Also I didn't feed him today or yesterday so he doesn't poop and pollute the water. In other news a guy up the road from me has bought my pair of macmasteri :happy1: He is going to breed them, and has a 90x45x45cm tank with a canister filter all set up and ready for them
  8. I don't think they're eating the food. It is very finely crushed although most of the bits won't fit in their mouthes. There is a sufficient amount of super fine stuff amoung the stuff that's been crushed and I have watched them pick at it (so some of it will fit in their mouthes) but they just don't seem that interested in it, a bit like the parents which just don't like dry food. Maybe I should get some of that JBL Nova Fry stuff which I used when I bred Laetacara curviceps ages ago? It worked well with them (but then again they are a bigger fish so the fry were a bit bigger than the tri's).

    Rosco's 350L build

I love the bubble coral !drool: What are the dimensions of the tank?
  10. Me either. That's my point - you can have a tank with the same capacity but just swap the dimensions around and you get an entirely different safety factor
  11. I had a 100x30x50cm tank with 5mm glass with a similar safety factor than his tank and it had bracing and it still cracked. I highly doubt a 400L tank would be fine with 8mm glass. But it does depend on the dimensions though. The higher the tank the lower the safety factor drops so you have to get thicker glass. So if you had it quite high it definately wouldn't be OK. but if you had a really long, really wide shallow tank it would be alright I suppose. Here's an example; 120x45x60cm 10mm glass 295L - safety factor 2.5 120x60x45cm 10mm glass 295L - safety factor 6 See the difference to the safety factor that the height makes? BTW I am using this calculator - http://fishkeepers.co.nz/index.php/tank_builder/
  12. Braces did nothing for my 100x30x50cm, which had an even higher safety factor than your tank...
  13. The connection thread NZ uses is DIN 477.
  14. Just grow Java Fern varieties, Anubias species and mosses on the wood  Then the algae won't have anywhere to grow. What are the dimensions and glass thickness of the tank?

    New hardscape

Looking good. Can't wait for the plants to fill in a bit more :bounce: !drool:
  16. Yes they do rot, and need to be replaced approximately every month.
  17. I was reading something on Apistogramma.com by some Apistogramma collector guy. He said that they are from densely planted clearwater streams or something like that.
  18. Yep. He looks really happy and just cruises around. The female chases him away if he gets too close to her and the fry. But there is plenty of room in the tank for all of the fish which is good because I have nowhere to put him if I had to remove him.
