  1. Don't bother with internal filters. They are such a pain to clean and they don't have decent filtration capacity. Also they look hideous  I will never ever be going back to them. Canisters all the way  Eheim make a Classic 150 2211 nano canister which will be suitable for your tank size. It has 1L of media capacity. It is not available in NZ. This site used to sell it but it seems to have dissapeared... Aquaristikshop.com have a Hydor Prime 10 external filter which will cost $127.00 NZD incl. shipping It is rated at 300lph and has 1.5L of capacity so it is even better than the Eheim 2211 which has just 1L of capacity and the same flow. When the Eheim filter was on that website I compared the prices and they were the same.

    CO2 system

Apparently GLA CO2 stuff is great I have bought non-CO2 stuff from them before and their customer service is excellent Remember though that they are an American company, so the CO2 regulator and bottle will have a different thread ( so I doubt that the bottle will be refillable in NZ), and the solenoid on the regulator will run on a different frequency and voltage. Ask them though if they can make one to NZ's specifications. I have read on the testimonials that they can custon-make stuff.
  3. Yay the blobs are now mobile :happy1:

    Rosco's 350L build

Nice! Any new photos? :bounce: The last ones were from the 4th of March.

    piranhas

Then why are they illegal? :dunno: (not that I'm interested in them at all)

    The What's Up? thread.

Currently I am sitting at home waiting for my new Apistogramma agassizii female :bounce:

    piranhas

So do you think could they survive and reproduce in NZ's rivers?

    piranhas

Just wondered why are piranhas illegal in NZ? Surely they wouldn't survive in our waterways? :dunno:
  9. T5HO = T5 high output (used for aquariums). T5NO = T5 normal output (used for industrial and home lighting applications). What are the dimensions of your tank? The smallest T5HO tubes come in 24w 55cm (standard) and 24w 43cm (Juwel, and some Arcadia, JBL and Dennerle tubes). I don't know much about T5NO though.
  10. Are you talking about T5HO or T5NO? Also what wattage bulbs are you thinking of using?
  11. Definately go external. Build-in filters and internal filters do not have decent media capacity. In fact I don't even know why companies even bother making them! Eheim or Fluval are the way to go. They are both very good quality and come with very good quality media. Also external filters don't cost much to run. Some cheap filters are OK but they don't come with quality media. So then you will have to buy some and it is very expensive on its own so it is just easier to buy a good quality filter straight from the start.

    DIY Flourite

Yeah hardscape is pretty important. I have seen photos of tanks with really good hardscape and it does make a positive difference to the appearence of the tank.
  13. I just found out that Apistogramma trifasciata is not a blackwater species  Thanks
  14. She is doing a brilliant job. I don't think that she lost a lot because most of them were stuck to the leaf Her colouration is extremely unusual - she is bright yellow with a very very faint black stripe on her side and a black spot on each side like a female agassizii. The females of two previous pairs that I kept a while ago (one of the pairs last year that died and the one ages ago from Redwoods) that spawned kept the same patterning - bright yellow with a dark black stripe.
  15. Got some wrigglers :bounce: I noticed an angry female chasing after a leaf (with little brown blobby wriggly things attached to it) that was blown around as I topped up the tank

    The What's Up? thread.

My sister has become obsessed with lolcats lately. I find this one pretty funny:
  17. Most of those are aquatic, but have been grown emersed. They will take a wee while to convert to submerged growth. I see "Alternanthera rubra" is ticked. That would be the one in the photo. It grows in moist conditions but cannot grow fully submerged.

Nice photos Dad caught a huge salmon last week which we froze and had for dinner on Saturday.
  19. Yeah those are my photos Dan breeds some wicked fish so don't hesitate to buy from him. Also I've had a few fish shipped to me before and I must say his were packaged the best

Haha my grandparents used to have a crazy cat and that's what it because known as
  21. Yeah I know you wrote that on the photo. I can write stuff on photos too if I want to Just wasn't sure why you wrote that for but you have specified So why would you want to keep him if he damages your corals? That's certainly not a good look Maybe swap him for a more coral-friendly fish?

"Who's a happy cat?" Certainly not him by the looks of it
