  1. Oh woops I did the Alenquer link twice. Here's the Super Red link: http://apistogramma.benchi.fr/wp-conten ... oworld.jpg They look similar to double red, except the colours are stronger and the anal and dorsal fins are red. They have a lovely filament on the dorsal fin.
  2. Yep that's a good idea. Either Nelson or ChCh. I might have a talk to the one here... If they do want a rediculously expensive price, I'll just try another shop

    Cyanobacteria.

That is the best treatment possible, from experience. My tank was overrun with cyano once, and I did a 5 day blackout, and I never saw it again.
  5. Oh stink! I'd have to talk to a ChCh shop then, because the shop here puts ridiculously high prices on everything. Do you really want to pay $5 for a Neon, or even more outrageous, $15 for a Rummynose Tetra, that isn't even good quality! So basically, when it comes to fish, the shop here sucks! Some of the lighting stuff and filter media is quite cheap though. Which shop in ChCh would be best to talk to, and give me a good price? Redwoods? Organism?
  6. So would I get them at wholesale price? :bounce:
  7. Where's the nearest and cheapest place to get them? I want about 30-50 :bounce: What is the price per fish? Would the shops give me a discount if I bought a large amount?
  8. Thanks Phoenix. Your tank is so inspirational, and its given me lots of ideas...
  9. As title says. I want to know if they're availible, because I may get some eventually if they are. Thanks, Joe

    Anubias

I've decided I want to use minima and some sort of dwarf/petite Anubias in my tank. Can I please have some too?
  11. Yeah macrandra needs really high light if it's to thrive and turn a lovely deep-red colour. Without good lighting its green and dull and doesn't do well at all.
  12. Hemianthus umbrosum isn't a true carpeting plant, and it grows really bushy. If you want to use it as a carpet plant, it will require some maintainance to keep it short.
  13. This brings back memories. They were the first fish I bred. I don't have them anymore though. I bred them at a temp of 25c, in a breeding trap with lots of java moss. I used a sponge filter.
  14. I don't think frogs actually have slime? I could be wrong. Don't feed the aro too many frogs, since they're supposedly rare etc, maybe just as a treat? And yeah, don't get the native ones. They're those dirty brown muddy-looking ugly ones with no eardrums. Don't mistake them for whistling frogs, which are goldish with a black stripe down their side.
  15. Jennifer told me about tomato sauce, and she said it makes the mixture more efficient by giving the yeast more nutrients, and she uses it in her bottles. Do you have a problem with it?
  16. Prferably I would go with the Dalton's. There's something about the midnight that I think isn't quite right. If you want, you can sift the Dalton's and it has lots of dark gravel in it, that is finer than pea gravel and looks lovely. It would tank ages, and you would go through quite a few bags.
  17. DIY is great! Get a couple of glass diffusers. I'm 13 too, and I got two shipped to me for $35, so it's not very expensive. The rest of the stuff is cheap. For a tank your size, Equipment/Ingredients: 2x large juice bottle (about 4-5l if possible) 2x Check Valve (1 for each bottle) Sachet of yeast White Sugar Water Tomato sauce/vegemite/marmite Baking Soda My method (for 1 bottle): Boil water. Add 2cups suger to a large glass jug. Then add around 3/4 a liter of boiling water, and stir to dissolve. Top up with very cold water so its warmish. Pour through a funnel into a bottle. Add yeast, 1/3 teaspoon baking soda, and a squirt of tamato sauce or vegemite etc. Put a lid on the bottle and shake furiously! Then top up the bottle with warm water and leave about 10cm from the top. How to make a DIY system: Get a bottle with a lid. Poke a hole in the lid (I get my dad to use an electric drill!). Put an airline joint in the hole. It must fit tightly. Then silicon it to the lid. Once dry, cut 20cm of airline and attatch to the joint. Then add a check valve, and to that add enough airline to reach into your tank, leaving about 7-10cm from the bottom. Attatch glass diffuser, and leave it for a couple of hours. The bottle should have built up enough pressure, and you will be able to see little bubbles coming from the diffuser. Hope that helps Joe
  18. Silica sand is great for plants - what's wrong with it? You should see Jennifer's big tank. She uses Dalton's Propagating sand, and it looks fantastic. Dark gravel is still cool though. Get something fine if possible. FishBen, great idea.
