I have a tank 1200 x 450 x 500...is a pump and air stone needed? I dont think i need it but want to check. When is air needed?

Do they need skimmers?

I have 3 silver dollars but they just sit there and are scared of me. I also have a BGK and a pleco and some convicts(i wish the oscar would eat my convicts and not my tiger barbs). What else could i keep with my oscar?

See what gravel your local fish store has. Also try landscape supply places for the gravel(make sure you wash it before use)

New tank sizes Tank 1 1200 x 500 x 500 Tank 2 900 x 500 x 500 Tank 1 will be semi planted with java fern and what ever else my fish dont rip apart Tank 2 will be fresh water for about 1 month and then turned into a brackish tank with what ever plants survive I looking at doing florescent lights(think thats what they are), metal halide are looking to be very expensive. Are 6500k lights fine?or should i go higher? Do i need one or two per tank? Thanks

Tiger barbs and cons are top fast for the slow oscar. Tank has been running for 2 months. O2 pump has seamed to stop them gasping for air. What can i substitute the O2 pump for? I hate the sound of it

Its my new tiger barbs i got today. Temp is 25c. I have a pleco, one tetra, oscar 2 cat fish of some sort and 10 convicts and 7 tiger barbs. O2 line is back in and will see if they stop

I just got some blue cold cathode lights of trade me for $11...ill make it up when i get the lights with a power supply of 9v 1A and ill post up some pics

I dont think it matters to much, i will be running sand when i get my puffers as some puffers like to dig into the sand and hide. Just run stones, they will be fine. Argh puffers are so hard to find!

If you dont want the puffers, or they dont suit the tank, im happy to buy them A nice sand substrate should suit them nicely, make the plant highly planted(way not want the pleco in there). Some figure eight's like to hide in caves, some dont. If the tank is not planted you will find them pacing up and down the front of the tank. Good luck

oh and i will be making my own hood and getting the lights put in by a mate who is a sparky. I will work out what size tanks i will be making tomorrow and post up. Any suggestions on tank makers in the north island that dont charge the world? With surface area of the water in tank...am i trying to maximize it so i dont have to put o2 into the water?
