  1. don't know if I right, but if I remember correctly oscars will try to eat the clown loaches. I might be wrong though, but oscars are definitely aggressive.
  2. Won't be a ECCO anymore. Hopefully this Fluval 405 isn't a overkill for a tank my size, 135L, pumps 1300LPH.
  3. you could give it a go if you really want one, some of them are aggressive as all, depends on the individual, if your tank is large enough with enough shade they might all get along fine.
  4. Or you could invest in some Siamese algae eaters, Hollywood has those for $12 each. I've found them very useful for hair/fuzz algae, they are also known to eat black beard algae. A good thing to do would be boil the wood, kill most of it, the old grown algae, then buy some siamese algae eaters, when new algae appear they'll eat it up.
  5. YAY Won a $1 reserve auction for a new Fluval 405, from the same seller as the CF1200, for $142. That's a good bargain I reckon.
  6. depends on personality. also size of you tank, the bigger, the less chance of having problem with aggression, also provide hiding spaces as well.
  7. In cm length x width x height (all in cm) then divide by 1000, to get volume in litres
  8. Hi Jim R. thanks for the offer it sounds tempting but I think I'll pass. The flowrate on them is a bit low I think, just found out about the flowrates, I thought if I bought them from you I could try to run them together but there isn't enough room in the cabinet beneath the tanks. thanks again for the offer though, you could sell them seperately and you'll get more money anyway I'm sure.
  9. Yeah I know it will only be about $2 difference, which doesn't really matter at all. I'll hopefully get it by Tuesday. How many weeks should I keep them both running before taking my internal Eheim 2010 out? When I do take the internal filter out I might get a mini-cycle correct?
  10. Sweet, CF1200 it is then. You'll know which auction it is probably, the only in Auckland, $130, new. I asked if it came with all the pipes or not, but probably a stupid question if it's new it has to come with pipes I assume, seller hasn't replied yet though.
  11. Just an advice though keep track of the number of snails in your tank. A few is fine, but most snails breed like there's no tomorrow, soon you will have the numbers increasing exponentially. I bought about 10 Malayan trumpet snails long time ago, after a few months I get these little snails crawling up my tank and every night I had to scoope as many out as I could. A lot of snails, while useful as clean up crew, will contribute to unwanted nitrate levels to a certain extent.
  12. The new CF1200 is off trademe as well, in Hollywood fish farm it sells for $160 I think. If the CF1200 will give better water quality, that's the one I'm going for. Not really urgent, but like to buy one soon, maybe in the next few days.
  13. Thanks for the reply. A noticable advantage for the Eheim is that it is only 5W, while the AquaOne uses 22W. But put this aside, you reckon it's better value to get the new CF1200 for $130. I would go for the one that gives me the best water quality, so in this case the CF1200?
  14. Here's the problem with me, when I buy something, I always have to go for the best brand. So, with the second hand Eheim 2224 I bought not working out, I was going to buy a new AquaOne CF1200 for $130. But... I saw this Eheim Ecco 2233 filter on Trademe. For $120, second hand. I couldn't find this filter on Eheim website, there is only 2232, 2234 and 2236. So if this one turns out to be one of those, is it worth buying over a new CF1200? Provided it comes with everything and is in good working order. Also what makes the ECCO different from the other Proffessionel series? Cheers
  15. I think it's usually one oto per 10 galleon. But a little more is probabaly better, as long as there's algae for them to eat. What type of algae in your bigger tank? might be a type they won't eat.
  16. Yup water is quite good, nitrate at 15ppm and no ammonia or nitrite. The refund for the Eheim 2224 I got is coming in tomorrow, so will use that money to buy a AquaOne CF1200, when I get that water quality should hopefully be even better.
  17. so 4 will be ok in a tank my size for now? both of my current ones are about 6cm long, or maybe 5cm. should I try to get ones the same size? Because in fish shops they are usually a bit smaller.
  18. I've seen and read quite a few people keep just two and apparently they always hang out together like they are best friends, wish mine are like that. I know what you mean by aggresion can't be spread out if I only keep two. Right now the healthy one is still a bully, it would chase the other skinny one almost every time they are close together. Or... If this one gets better, maybe I should get two more? Just worried my tank isn't big to accomodate 4, even though I plan to upgrade within 2 years time.
  19. great tank, will look even better once the disucs are in.
  20. no worries. I have two options. 1. If the other skinny one gets well, then I will keep them, with only two loaches no hierachy would be established so hopefully no bullying. 2. Worst case scenario, if the other skinny one eventually dies as well, I will sell the healthy one, my tank won't be big enough to keep them in about 2 years time, have plans to upgrade in the future though. This skinny one is still always active so that's a good sign.
  21. what type of snails? because with some snails loaches will ignore, one example is the trumpet snail, not sure of exactly why but it's because of the shape of the shell making it difficult or even impossible for the loach to get to the actual snail.
  22. oh right. so with any filter, the actual flow rate it produces once all set up, is lower than the given flow rate. When I get my refund for the Eheim I might go for a new CF1200.
  23. dead already found a clean container to put him into but he was already dead on the bottom, from the looks of him this afternoon I knew it wasn't going to last much longer. Hope the other one gets well, will keep feeding the new bloodworms from now on.
