  1. Forgot to add I'm shortly going to cross some of my single tail cambodian females (carrying the dt gene) with a cambodian double tail male I have.
  2. Hi, I've currently got Cambodian/Veiltail males and females, tuquoise, green, and blue and some green/red/black mixes. Also crowntail/cambodian crosses, lilacs, blue/whites, blues, reds etc, one male with white body and red/white/blue tail - some males sexed but not sure of others, crowntail/veiltail crosses, green & blacks, blues, reds & multi colours, some looking like feather tails and other definately crowntail, quite a few with white bodies and red fins and also some other very young crowntails (5 weeks old).
  3. Great pic - very jealous I couldn't go.
  4. Hi, I've been looking at that pic of your blue/white male. I have some very similar young males in my tanks at the moment that are the result of a cambodian crowntail cross. (Very very similar indeed)!
  5. I have some month old fry at the moment ranging in size from 1.5cm down. I have just moved them to a much larger tank but oftern if some are still quite small seperate them as the bigger fish will gobble up all the food available before the smaller fry get a chance. I feed green water and no.2 liquid fry for the first week, bbs and microworms from then on and at about 1 month start on crushed flake/pellets (crushed by rolling pin). Just watch with bbs that you don't feed so much they get swim bladder!
  6. Hydrogen peroxide is a form of bleach but is not the same as household bleach (so says my husband, a chemistry teacher).
  7. Rockerpeller, I was in Palmers Garden Centre, Orakei today and they have the Daltons Propergating? Sand $9.99 for 20 Litres. Try your nearest Palmers.
  8. Really nice guppies - love the colour
  9. Hi Fishboi, I'm in Auckland too. Where do you get your Daltons Aquatic mix from?

    Eheim 2213

Thanks Slappers and Ira. What do you think this net/mesh thing would be for. Another way to describe it would be like those pressure bandages that you roll on and off on things like elbows and knees but made of mesh. I'll try and get to one of out LFS today.

    Eheim 2213

I have just received the Eheim 2213 filter that I got off TimTam and its great. One question though does anyone have a picture or a link to one of how the media is set up inside of the cannister. There are a couple of plastic circular things and a thing - like a chopped of stocking made of mesh. What else do I need and how does it sit in it. Thanks in advance and sorry for all the silly questions.
  12. The fish I got are not from shops - lately I haven't seen anything decent that doesn't have something wrong with it - too fussy I guess.
  13. Hi, A question on behalf of a teacher I work with (I'll get her to join up here as well), she has a couple of marine fish in a tank at school. She can't get BBS to hatch and was wanting to know if you can feed decapsulated brine shrimp to them and how to do it. Thanks
  14. Okay, I'll change my mind and wait at least another 2-3 weeks. Have another 2-3 tanks I can borrow off my husbands science department. Thanks
  15. Hi, some say its caused by bacteria and some say feeding live worms can cause it. Take a look at the web site www.fishjunkies.com it has pictures and an article on it.
  16. Thanks for all your imput - I had pretty much taken most of that into consideration and given that my new fish look great, are not from a shop and seem to have travelled really well nearly a week ago I'll probably put them in their new tank tomorrow.
  17. How long do you think you should keep new fish isolated for before you add them to your tank? I had some new fish arrive last Thursday and really need the space for some more arriving soon so are keen to add to my existing tank. Love to hear your thoughts on this.
  18. Sorry, meant to also say don't put him back in the main tank yet - wait and see, I have had fish survive 3-4 weeks like this and then die even though the average time is supposed to be about 10 days.
  19. Hi, with my fighters their stomachs tend to blow up before you can see the pinecone look and then the scales stick out further each day. I haven't had dropsy for a long time but when I did I used to have to use a magnifying glass at the start to see the pinecone - always developed a bloated stomach first and stopped eating. Unfortunately I have never been able to cure it!

    Atman 104

Just wondering if anyone is using an Atman 104 filter - for 2000 litres per hour. If so how do you find it? I'm really after a cf1200 or jebo 819 but haven't been able to pick up one in my price range yet so looking for an alternative. I know the Atman is internal and the others are external filters but spreading my options.
  21. Hi, I love your tank!! Do you have a layer of the fertiliser under the gravel or is it mixed in with it?
  22. Whoops sorry, the ones in the first picture are not Cambodian. The ones in the second photo are.
  23. Shes a female - unfortunately she died this morning. I have bred from her. The ones in the first photo are from a STCambodian cellophane male carrying the DT gene crossed with a female veiltail I bred. Their brother is the 4 month old Cambodian cross male in the photo above.
  24. We use oil column heaters in our house when needed during winter. We just put a thermostat on the wall. Don't know about the power cost though- we don't pay power bills. Probably the reason I can get away with adding more tanks!
  25. Excellent! Thanks for that everyone and thanks also to Steve who let me have a couple of fish bags tonight.
