  1. I've got one of those and its noisy too - the quietest I can get it is when it is running multiple tanks and has no restrictions on its pumping ability - fortunately mine isn't in the house but it is the loudest in the room where I keep most of my tanks.
  2. Very nice, have you had a spawn yet?
  3. Would love to come but my husband works Tuesday nights and its all too hard with the comings and goings of three teens in our house. The fact that two are girls and we live at a boys boarding school doesn't help.
  4. Sorry to butt in on your thread but Wok when you say filter wool is that the white stuff on the top layer of the filter?
  5. I bought a cf1200 last weekend and have the media in the same order as Jo and Willy. Running well with a decent sort of flow rate. I'm happy.

    Tank update

I think it looks great, way better than my tanks.
  7. Excellent efforts, keep it up - pass my comments onto the fish! They are looking really good Billaney
  8. Another tip for the bleach use - putting whatever you have washed into the sun after you have rinsed out the bleach and leaving it to dry also aids getting rid of any chemicals. I wash out absolutely everything I use by this method including all my tanks and containers, filters and sponges and have had no trouble at all. Was a bit worried about admitting I used bleach but I'm not the only one obviously.
  9. Are the deformities just in the tail and fins or in the actual bodies of the fish as well and was the whole spawn affected?
  10. Its really interesting - the top one of mine is a female, the others males. The father is cambodian st cellophane carrying the dt gene, the mother a crowntail, but you can clearly see the crowning on some of these ones yet they have the cellophane colouring. These are the ones I am going to have a go at line breeding. Currently also have some young full crowntails, and 2 week old crowntail/dt cambodian youngsters as well.
  11. I use one - an internal 400lph) in my 4ft along with my new cf1200. Only use it in this tank as this one contains my jarred male fighters - no algae since I got it - 4mths - in the water and certainly reduced the amount on the containers but not completely stopped it. I got it for 2 reasons - 1 the algae and 2 to control things like white spot etc as I can not get much flow through the containers. Works great for me but wouldn't bother with it in my other tanks, planted and bare bottom as I either have catfish or can clean it easily.

    Plants

Hi look under Bolivian Butterfly Ram on the internet and you will pull up some info on them
  13. One healthy looking plant, how highs your tank.
  14. Hi, with my fighter fry I use an airline and put my hand in with my fingers right by the open end and sort of use my finger as a leading guide to where I am going to suction - just gives the tiny fry a warning that something is coming. I suction into a clear container and if I suck them up, when I have finished put them back. To clean algae off the glass I use a small piece of filter wool and give it a wipe, just be careful the fry don't get between the wool and glass.
  15. How many tanks do you have and what do you do with all the different types of fry you get. Just being nosey really but you always seem to have new fry so I figure you must have a huge set up. I'm jealous really.
  16. Hi Aaron, can you post a pic of him, love to see him.

    CF1200

Emailed Pet Planet where I got the filter from and they are posting me out some new taps which I think is great. Hopefully when they arrive the problem will be sorted - will let you know. Thanks for everyones input, its great to be able to ask on this forum instead of battling alone.
  18. Yep, took some at the weekend but even with assistance and advice from others on this site I can't post them. Have to wait until my son stops his gaming competition tonight and see if he will do it for me.
  19. Thanks guys - will wait a couple of weeks and give it a shot. Heres hoping for some completely white/translucent d/ts.
  20. Yes, making a cave was in this forum I think under DIY. When you feed courgette or cucumber ( I only do courgette) I feed a slice about 1/2cm thick so I can get the toothpick in but remember to take out the left over after a day as it will go mushy in the tank.
  21. I'm using the Daltons Aquatic Mix and Daltons Propogating Sand in my tanks and have only had one muddy set up - didn't pour into a container and therefore disturbed the bottom of the tank. All the tanks are going great and my unrooted cuttings are taking off!
  22. Searched around the back of my tank today (the one where the bristlenoses disappeared from) and there were two crispy bodies. At least I now know what happened to them.
