Thanks Alan!! That one in particular - I didn't realise the Galaxys had been around that long, but also some of the other ones listed. I want to fill my community tank a little more but don't want to go to the LFS.

  3. Sorry to hear about your Gourami. Depends how strong your filter is but probably died and floated there, or is your bogwood moveable, maybe it shifted and wedged him down . Sometimes when I vacuum under mine, if I don't put it back the right way it will topple over.

Interested in some of the fish under latest listings- fish - on trademe. Username 'eindhoven' (sorry don't know how to post link). Has anyone purchased from this trader before and can recommend. Thanks
  5. How big are they? Fish just love BBS and I know my fighters eat and eat until they look like they are going to burst. I have had one only actually do it though!!! I don't know about goldfish but BBS can also cause swim bladder.
  6. One of my adult male fighters did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and ended up in the bottom of my cf1200 filter. Only had a couple of marks on his head.
  7. Thanks for that, yes I did buy the next lot submersed from you alanim and they were great.
  8. Theres some good tank makers up here in Auckland with some good prices. Mind you it can cost a bit in petrol and time to get to pick them up!!
  9. I aquired some emersed about 6 weeks ago. Spread it out between 4 tanks - in 3 of them it died off, in the other one its flourishing. Next time I'd buy submersed but at the time I was new to plants and didn't know the difference and the seller wasn't telling!
  10. If its one eye its probably injured it some way, if its both its more like to be bacterial (possibly water quality). I don't have angel fish so not sure what to recommend for it other than water changes.
  11. Gannets right about the size for fast fish photos but $80. I didn't even pay that for my brand new 4ft last year.
  12. Either for oxygen, I use a polybox or a cardboard box lined with polystyrene, the first is the easier to do as unless you have the right sized poly you have to muck around with the cutting of it to get a firm fit. Seal the bags super well, I band mine and then tape them down so no air can leak out. Tropicals make sure you include a heat pack, the Sth Islands getting cold at this time of the year. Label your box which way up you want it and label that its live fish. Its easier if you can deliver to the depot rather than have them pick up as the later in the day the better. Good luck - you shouldn't have a problem.
  13. Hi, how do I join up. Will probably never get to a meeting but think I should at lest belong. Thanks

    Oxygen

I run airlines in my thanks that have the bristlenose in them but not the ones that don't. I read somewhere that they like the extra oxygen and also good water flow.
  15. If you haven't already, run an airline into the tank as well for a couple of days and see if that helps as well as the water changes.
  16. The other fish in the photo looks like a male - might just be a long finned female though - and if she's in with a male thats hanging around her she will egg up a lot and eventually release and eat them. Female fighters always carry eggs because in the wild they have to be ready to reproduce whenever they find a male fighter.
  17. Yes, they do get fat with eggs, but if they are fat (overweight) as well quite often they can't release their eggs when the male squeezes them, or the male can't wrap tightly enough around.
  18. sorry, a question from the totally ignorant about discus - what do you mean feeding off their parents? I envisage a calf feeding off a cow but know thats not what you mean. Honestly, this is a serious question I'm asking, not trying to be funny?
  19. Hi, I've shipped a few betta to Rotorua lately for people wanting to start breeding. Have suggested they join up with this forum so you never know they might be in touch.
  20. Pleased to hear it worked and the fish and turtles okay.
  21. If you added algae fix instead of chlorine remover I'm assuming that you mean you put too much algae fix in? or do you think the chlorine killed the fish? If you think its the algae fix how much too much? did you put in?
  22. Better that there is condensation on the lid than evaporation. The floor will probably get wet anyway if you have to keep putting water back in the tank. If you salt the water evaporation is a bigger pain in the neck than condensation anyways.

    Fluval 103

    I use a CF1200 - cost me $125 about a month ago.
  24. I use budget bleach or janola.
