  1. I got mine from Palmers, Orakei. They were broken off pieces and in a wooden bin near where the compost etc is. Give them a call.
  2. Hi Warren I can get the search to work. Is this because its going through your server? I can get back to 2002.
  3. MYSTIC - you're back! YAY!!!!
  4. I have 9 males and the rest are females, has anyone on here bred them and if so how did you go about it. I'll have to do some reading up first on the subject but may have a go as I have 3 - yes 3, empty tanks at the moment.
  5. mmm... I'm wondering if I should take the whole lot out and have a go at breeding them in their own tank. I have about 35 of them, I knew there was a mix of males and females but have no idea how old they were when i got them.
  6. Tonight while looking in my big tank in the lounge I discovered a 1cm rummynose. Given that the tank houses discus, rummynose, neons, cardinals, cory and bn and has just recovered from a huge ammonia spike that took out about 20 fish I am somewhat astounded that obviously one of my rummynose has bred in this tank. There appears to be only one young fish. I water change every 2nd - 3rd day at the moment and vacuum heavily as well as my filter has not yet re established itself as after the ammonia spike I had to completely clean it out. Is it common for these fish to breed in this sort of set up? I thought not.
  7. On holiday until 27th Jan :bounce: Before I had children I used to have to work right over Christmas and New Year so its a nice change to be back at work and on holiday for 5-6 weeks.
  8. I don't think so. The Auckland Fishkeepers Assn meets at Green Bay. PM Wok on this site as he's the secretary for more info.
  9. here the up to date pics of this spawn. I only have 1 confirmed male and 1 that is a 'maybe' but a lot smaller and slower growing. A good mix of females with various colours, some with more crowning than others. I am going to put these females to a new male I have purchased in about another 4-5 weeks. Am not going to sell any of these as want to work on the ct's. the male and this male is by the same father but from a yellow 1/2ct female. He is about 5 weeks younger than the above spawn but is at this stage the only male once again. I have a mix of yellows, cambodian reds and like this fish blue/yellows so far.

    Fin Damage

have they not grown at all then?

    Fin Damage

I would think that if they haven't started to repair by now then they are not going to.

    Fin Damage

Make sure you keep the tank clean. You can medicate although I tend to avoid it unless it is necessary. They will grow back and he's probably going to be fine as long as she didn't attack his body itself too badly. They may not grow back to be as beautiful as they once were or the same colour but hopefully in a couple of months you won't know it happened. You will notice the fins repairing slowly, they will come through a translucent white colour to start with but should colour back up eventually depending on the amount of damage done.
  13. The first time my kribs spawned the female wouldn't let the male near and I had to remove him. The next time I took him out to prevent him being attacked and she ate the fry! I think quite a few people remove the parents once they are free swimming.
  14. I'd been a watcher since the moment it was listed! Now I have to wait until the seller contacts me so lets hope they do!!
  15. short fin eel - can't put a sump in a basement as the tank is in the school science (bio) lab but could put a sump under the tank.
  16. Right - I have now purchased said chiller. Next is a filter. Would an external be suitable or would a sump be better. How much water movement do you think I would need. I know the water quality is important but don't really want to go sump.

    Sick Australes?

I agree and also find it hard to believe that the pH dropped so rapidly. How old is your test kit? If you put your finger on the top of the test tube that will also affect your readings.
  18. I'm stunned - I would also go stolen as it happens up here quite a bit. Surely they would have hidden had a bird been responsible. Let us know how you get on when you clear out the pond.

    Sick Australes?

I don't know anything about killies which is probably quite obvious but peat or driftwood helps lower pH. I find my pH drops as my tank matures so what about using aged water for water changes as in leaving water to sit for a couple of days.

    Sick Australes?

they may have swim bladder from over eating. some fish eat way faster than others and if they are the bigger ones its because they are getting most of the food.
  21. several reasons - he may not be big enough and strong enough to squeeze the eggs out. Is she stunned after he wraps around her? She may be egg bound or she may not be old enough.
  22. I would take the chinese algae eater out when the discus go in as I understand that they may attach themselves to the sides of the discus. SAE's are okay though. The tank looks very good!
  23. Would this type of chiller work on an eel tank ? Auction Number: 192014706
