  1. Have breeding Bolivian rams, a gorgeous new pair of A. Veijita that I hope will breed for me in time (Thanks Malawiman!) and a pair of gold rams in a community setup. Hope to set up a fishroom in the garage when we finally get our own house and have a go at breeding some different varieties... Dwarfs are definitely my favourite type of freshwater fish, I love their expressive faces and distinct personalities
  2. Make your bed! Lol   Tank looks fantastic though....Can't wait to see pics with arowana in it!
  3. Love the rotty pup! So cheeky looking Oh yeah the fish are nice too hehe
  4. At least it's in a happy home now and being looked after
  5. Looks awesome, nice work What kind of lighting do you have on the tank? Any Co2/Ferts, etc?

Awesome pic and love the phantoms....
  7. Ooh Afrikan where do you find this Robocan stuff? I hate flies in the house SOOO much...But hate the thought of killing my fish because of spray more...So the last few hot days it's been a toss up between cooking away inside BUT with no flies, or being cool but increasingly irritated with horrible annoying little flies buzzing round me
  8. I'm not too sure either but would just suggest lots of water changes to keep water pristine while you are trying to figure it out... Maybe one of the fish has brought in a parasite or something that has affected some of the others? A bit hard to know how to treat when you don't know what is wrong :-? Good luck and sorry to hear about your losses
  9. Is it under the normal gravel or just on its own?
  10. Thanks guys Love how everyone on this site is so helpful. Looking forward to the day I (eventually) get my beardie! :bounce:
  11. Astroturf is the "grass" stuff they use on Tennis courts right? Where do you buy it from?
  12. Hi everyone, I'm interested in possibly getting a beardie sometime this summer and just have a few questions for those who keep them. Have done a bit of reading on the net, but finding some conflicting views on certain things on there. So just hoping someone would be able to help 1) What kind of substrates is everyone using? And is it ok to keep juvenile beardies on reptile sand? (Some sites say yes, others say no, but I haven;t come across a reason why in my travels). 2) Would a 1m x 440 x 570mm h tank be ok to keep the dragon in? 3) and perhaps most importantly...Do beardies smell at all? (The tank would be in my bedroom!) I would of course be extremely vigilant about food and poo removal... just don't want a stinky bedroom, lol  That's all I have for now... but expect more questions from me in the near futre  If anyone has any general advice on beardie keeping as well or can point me to some good sites, it'd be greatly appreciated.
  13. Yea...to me it's kinda sad but according to many internet sources it is fine for them. I guess what Yarimochi said is true.... and they aren't the most active of fish in the first place...Still personally wouldn't keep one like that
  14. I felt like it might be too cheeky to say anything but had a great laugh in the store. I see what they were meaning of course but the wording was all wrong!
  15. Sorry to hear Dixon... I have always had the same thing with blue's as have a couple of friends with tanks...Sad because they are awesome little fish. I now have bolivians and while they certainly aren't as colourful as the blues when young, they end up looking gorgeous as adults (especially the males, which grow beautiful long red extensions on their tails ). Have found them to be really hardy and easy to breed as well as excellent parents to the fry 8) So if you can get hold of a nice pair I would go for it
  16. Was browsing some pet shops with the boy today and came across an info sheet on Betta... Apparently "They like to live in small containers as this is their natural habitat" I'm thinking, where in the wild do they find all these containers? Fiance wondered if there is a "Lake Tupperware" somewhere where Betta live and breed..
  17. And btw, the gourami is still acting like "one of the boys" God I love that fish, amuses me to no end. Don't think I would be able to part with it even if i tried to be honest!
  18. Its about 200l (so maybe 185-190 with gravel etc) 800x500x500. Has 6 neons, 2 BN, 2 serpae tetras (there were 6 to start with about a year and a half ago but they slowly killed each other off! these 2 seem to be friends...? 8) ) 2 longfin zebra danios, some guppy fry that will be given away once they get big enough, the 3 spot gourami and the 3 discus which are all juveniles... Plan to get a bigger (like 500-600L) tank when we buy our own place this time next year, hopefully this will be ok till then but if the discus grow too big I will exchange them for smaller ones in the meantime. Sounds like a lot of fish when I type it up actually...but doesn't look overcrowded, plus gets 50-70% water changes a week, so water is of good quality. I'll post a pic when I can borrow the neighbours cam and get a decent one, as I just gave it a clean yesterday and trimmed back some of the plants, it's looking really nice
  19. No, I don't, have pearls in another tank but no more in the big one...I'm actually going through the agonising choice of whether to part with this one right now...He's probably my favourite fish and has such personality, I thought of getting him a friend for a while there but don't want to overcrowd the tank. I've had him for 2 years now and he's just the funniest fish. A complete pig but so cute...always comes to see me whenever I am close to the tank...Ahhhhh isn't it funny how attached we get to our aquatic friends!
  20. Just bought 2 new discus today to befriend my one that I feared may have been getting a bit lonely...Over the last 2 months he/she has been in my tank, he/she (let's go with he for now) has become rather close to my 3-spot gourami...they always swim around together, hang round the same region of the tank, etc. I think because they are the only 2 fish of a similar size in the tank. Anyway- after introducing the 2 new discus into the tank and watching the inevitable little squabbles as my boy tries to maintain his status as "King of the Aquarium" it's quite hilarious to watch the gourami frantically swimming along behind him, feelers out, getting right in the midst of the battles and being a general nosy parker! Almost seems like it is trying to act as a peacemaker- will swim right in between the discus as they are squaring off to each other and wave his feelers around deliriously I'm finding it highly amusing...I swear the gourami thinks it is a discus!
  21. Well I don't know what the insulation inside your house is like but our marine tank had the heater off all last night and temp stayed at 25 degrees all night? Crazy but true! (Having said that our house is really small and if I get busy in the kitchen it tends to heat the whole house for the night...)
  22. I guess sell them off once they got to sellable size?
  23. Would like to but haven't seen any for sale...Any idea where to get them?
  24. Ok...and why? Sell me killies guys!!! hehehe
