  1. Hi Matt Welcome to the world of Tropicals You really need to give us some idea of the fish you like to start with then we can offer some helpful advice as to what will go well with them If you like african then you will have no need for plants and water conditions will not be suitable for much else, if you like to keep plants and do a setup around that then you will not be able to keep certain fish such as Silver Dollars because within a short time span you will have no plant left.... So help us out a little bit here, go and have a look around the local pet shops, decide what fish you like the most and we can all help you out on what will go well with them Cheers /Bruce

  3. Before you complain about prices , you need to justify those by comparing them to other prices in the area, for examlple if Jansens are selling A Moorish Idol for $240 and Hollywoods and others are selling them for $140, then you have 2 options, buy it elsewhere or ask Jansens to reconsider their price based on the evidence you have brought to them The hobby is NOT stuffed just because you may think a fish is over priced I have brought quite a few fish from Jansens over the years and have always found them to be price competitive on the stock they have, which is usually excellent. I have never had any problems with BAD advice either I agree with Caryl, if you feel that you did not get good advice you must speak to the manager. Dont write them off on one bad experience you may have had (Never Burn Your Bridges) /Bruce

    My Apistogrammas

I have seen these here in Napier as well, a beautiful fish, they are not Cacatuoides, my initial thought was Agassizii, which it well may be or looking through my dwarf cichlid book it could be what they call "As Yet Undescribed" Leads me onto an interesting question though "How did it get past MAF if the importer cant tell you what it is???" What did he tell MAF it was??
  19. Does any one have problems with plants that are grown Hydroponically? I am sure some plants that I have brought have been grown this way and dont seem to last onece they are planted in the aquarium All plants seem to lose their color and go clear and streaky, root ball looks fantastic Hope someone can tell me what is going on, am I wasting my time in buying this plant and if so should the people selling it tell you that it is grown this way?
