  1. i suggest you get more or there is a high chance one caramba will kill the others. it seems you have been put in a tough situation by the seller.
  2. if you are lucky with the caramba you may have a male & 3 female but if you don't you will be more than likely to have one once they start competing for domination. if they do survive i would think they will cross with the ikola which isn't the end of the world, unless you were thinking about selling any fry you get. good luck getting more dubs, it's often the case of one or one dozen that makes sucessful troph keeping.
  3. i would suggest you do some research on aggression & then hybridisation of tropheus. the dub & ikolas will be fine in the numbers you have but the carambas will soon have the same number as the dubs i would say. what size are they?
  4. is that the direct link? & turn your caps lock off please.
  5. could you imagine a smaller head with those eyes?
  6. so any new comers to tropheus keeping?
  7. nice work, i like the look of them.
  8. it should work, principal is the same as a smoker. good luck, let us know the results.
  9. you have quite a combination of stocking there, what are your long term plans with the fish?
  10. i have one but do not remember how to change it & it's in a box in my garage somewhere so the chances of me sorting out how to are slim. i would serach a user manual on the net for the answer.
  11. i'd go for the 300 to but just keep in mind it is almost 2 feet long so the back wall will be half covered.
  12. no problem, i ordered the 300w for a 300L tank on the 1 watt per litre theory to find it was major overkill. tracey ordered mine in when i wanted them & gave me a good deal so her or june will sort you out with what need.
  13. dairy vats have some good insulation available to help keep the heat in once you do sort how to heat it.
  14. jager heater ratings watt litres 25 (20-25) 50 (25-60) 75 (60-100) 100 (100-150) 125 (150-200) 150 (200-300) 200 (300-400) 250 (400-600) 300 (600-1000) i have a 50, 150 & 300 watt heater. I was using the 150 for a 300L tank in my garage which has 10mm poly insulation & it heated it really well. the garage itself is not insulated & gets very cold at night. In your situation, i would go for the 250w heater. these last so long that buying 2 to safeguard for failure is not necessary IMO. I estimate my 50 watt heater is around 7 years old & it keeps the tank at perfect temp & if you were worried about them staying on apparently they have a fuse type mechanism that shuts them off if they jam on. they have a 3 year warranty, i had 5 jebo heaters & all failed after around two years of use.
  15. jagers are the business, i have a 1200x500x500 which i use a 300w jager & it is way over what i need to heat the tank. the 300W jager is rated for a 1000L tank, the 200w is rated for a 300L tank from memory but i would get the heater specified for the size of your tank or maybe 1 rating up. i will look when i get home to see what wattage heater is suited for your tank & let you know.
  16. i found one on some venetian blinds in a conservatory at my in-laws place last week, they are pretty cool.
  17. some are & some aren't, we tend to feed mostly vege as the vege eaters can easily get bloat with meaty foods.
  18. i would think about using a combination of solar & a fire place with a wet back system, you may need the wetback for the cold winter days.
  19. we had 12 hour days for 8 weeks than back to normal 8.5 days for 8 weeks & so on.
  20. is there any advantage for a small tank like sam's to do a syphon overflow? a canister would be alot easier i would have thought.
  21. it is an interesting concept not drilling for an overflow. would that not make it a syphon system? how about into a plastic bucket with media & a pump with a return pipe???
  22. http://fishkeepers.co.nz/forums/viewtop ... low#p18055 here's a thread that may help
