  1. my auntie used to have her own camera shop for many years & also managed a camera house store. she swears by canon over all brands, the one thing i do know she says about buying a second hand canon is be wary of the batteries as they are canon specific battery pack, not standard shaped batteries if you get what i mean.
  2. bugger, what a waste of $ the minder was then. failed the first time it was needed?
  3. one of those plus a jager, should be sweet for ages. 8)
  4. how big were they? i think as adults they are tough but alot more likely to die when smaller.
  5. how cold was it? my lfs african tank was at 13 deg for almost a week
  6. with three large tanks it gives me the chance to have all the trophs separately. i have a couple of 2 footers already for fry/juvies then the 200L can be for the larger juvies. that's all i will need for a while until i want to get another troph specie. the only real concern is keeping pemba & moliro fry separate as they are similar but not indentical but in saying that they become different looking at around 3 to 4cm so not that much of an issue. if i add two more 4 footers i will be sweet for ages basically.
  7. i will stick with the 4x2x2 as it is a good size for a single group of trophs, i already have one tank that is 48x20x20 & its good but slightly bigger would be ideal. i'll decide when i make the stand wether i'll use the top as a shelf or put a tank on it. i liked the idea of 3 stack as i would only need to make one stand as 3 tanks for 3 troph species is all that is required at the moment. this would also leave me with my other 200L tank for grow outs etc.
  8. yeah good point but the stud height is over 3m with a raking ceiling so not any issue & the frame would only be up to the bottom of the top tank which would also be a storage shelf if no tank on it & i already have a step ladder. this is a classic mistake in kitchens. making cabinets too large to get into the room, corner pantry cabs in particular.
  9. nah i want to stack them so as my hobby expands another bank can be easily added without need many metres of wall length. got to think of future expansion & the space car projects take
  10. i think a couple of L081 would finish off a big troph tank nicely.
  11. i want a stand for 3 4x2x2 tanks so thats nothing like what i am after. sweet set up though.
  12. thanks & plumbing down the back
  13. i am moving to a new place in a few weeks that has alot of garage space so the only thing to do is get more tanks to justify the space  what have you done for stacking tanks above each other? i plan to build some out of treated framing timber & want to see some that were already being used to get some ideas of what to & what not to do.

so those two fish are different breeds? i thought it was hard to ID peacocks :-?
  15. could be an all new fancy plec species?
  16. i have had females holding pick up another species eggs that were spat which i think is more likely in this situation. I even a red zebra that was holding eggs for just 2 days pick up a few free swimming baenschi fry which died as they couldn't get out to feed. as for the barring, even my "clean" ones showed faint barring at times but maybe i misunderstand the definition of baring. mine were never overly dark, it more looked like scales running in a different direction.
  17. if its in the laundry line it with polystrene sheets to insulate it & reduce the energy required to maintain the heat. is that an option?
  18. i have had trophs for long enough now to realise they are just another african with a different paint job & a down turned nose. relax & enjoy them i say. if you can't handle the idea of loosing a fish that cost as much as them than stick to the common cheap africans.
  19. it sure does make a nice mix cichlid_fan, i feed shelled peas & sushi wrap in addition to commercial foods & they love it. I must post a video one of these days of my "tropheus rugby" matches. i throw in a large shelled pea, too large for them to swallow & one will pick it up & try to swim away with it, the others will chase him down & grab the pea & try to swim away. it goes on for ages & is hilerious to watch. this is good advice, i have had africans for 3 years or so & have fed a wide range of foods. everything from commercial fish foods to peas, sushi wrap & bloodworms without a single bloat case. its variety that keeps them healthy.
