    Advice

go for those, i had 2 clown loaches, 2 skunk loaches, a BN catfish, 2 gaurami, 2 angels & 3 types of tetras in a 200L tank for over a year with no probs
  2. thanks snnokie, is it better to put them in a net in the tank at this size so they get enough food? they are in a tank by themselves.
  3. i have stripped my yellow this morning. she is about 2 1/2 inches long & produced 12 fry. I have sera mikropan mini flake food, will this be good to feed em with? The fry are in a 35L tank.

    Advice

if your concerned bout the clowns, they will take a long time to grow large. i have seen a pic of a 20-25 cm clown loach but he was about 15 years old.
  5. i only dosed as directed which was plenty to get rid of the BBA
  6. yeah, i think so. its a product designed to enhance growth. Make sure you get the right products, flourish is a fert & flourish excell is a carbon. as far as i can remember all the flourish products are also designed to be used in conjuction with each other.
  7. not sure about that, flourish excell is a liquid carbon designed to enhance plant growth. fortunately it also kills BBA
  8. i had it quite bad in my community tank. dosed as directed with flourish excell & it died over five days & never came back. I got it on some plants i bought from my LFS
  9. if you don't want babies they will have less of a chance of survival if the females are left in the tank. i have freri in my tank & there main food source in the wild is to eat fry etc. you could only keep female yellows & have basically the same colour (they have a little less black finage) but others types of africans only the male colours up (fryeri, aulonocara peacocks etc).
  10. here's a link to the pic gallery on the cichlid forum. this is very helpful especially when unsure of latin names http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/a ... allery.php
  11. the book is at least 10 years possibly 15 or 20. They (books) come from a supplier but i cannot remember what the suppliers name was. I would recognuse it if i heard it again.
  12. well everyone, i was in my LFS store today & asked about these names & guess what. they are right, the store person produced "Dr Axelrods" fish encyclopaedia which had all the zebras etc named as Pseudo.... These are not named as this on the cichlid forum species register so newbies like me have alot to learn the hard way
  13. dont know about the plants but tape the lid down. my sis works in a childcare centre in queenstown, they lost fish when the spiced up playdough got posted into their tank. "It's quite normal for the kids to put play dough in the tank, we keep it on the lower bench so they can interact with the fish". "They dont normally die, maybe just because the extra sensory additives (spices like lavender etc) were mixed in that day they died".
  14. i have some Sera fry food which says its sutable for all fry. Yeah this is my first batch of fry. Yeah i have two other tanks i can setup & spare filters. I have a 35L & 100L tank, a shark internal filter & a CF1000, air pump & a few heaters lying around that i could use.
  15. any way of telling how long she has been holding for?
  16. thanks very much, will do.
  17. i'll be keen to grow them up abit & see how that goes. what's the best way to help ensure a high servival rate, should i put her in another tank & strip her or leave her in the main tank with the fry eating haps?
  18. I have just noticed what i think is my yellow holding eggs. she does not normally have the "turkey neck" look. Anyone confirm this?
  19. comparing pics of the cichlid forum i think it is a aulonacara baenschi, it looks very much like the pic link below & phot "male1" in the photo list http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=632
  20. i don't think so after this. I actually want a male baenschi for my two females i ordered as a pair (just to clarify, i ordered a male & female pair) which cost me $100 for them.
  21. my angels were in 7.6ph & 26 deg for their first two years & thrived. my convict is in 7.9ph & 26 deg & also does very well.
  22. i have a convict in my african tank & she holds her own with those fiesty critters. then again, my angels are the 2nd most aggressive fish i've had, 2nd to the giraffe.
  23. & dont forget the misinformed suppliers that label them
  24. i thought i saw it further down the page peanut linked to? or you may mean the ones here in nz  ?

    Mixing advice

Hi all, after putting venustus (giraffe) in my tank & him beating the other within an inch of his life, would these two mix ok with my current stock? (see sig for list) Pseudotropheus demasoni & Metriaclima greshakei (ice blue)
