  1. The tank has a PH of around 7.9. This loach has been with africans for over 6 months with no issues at all. All other fish have grown an inch in 6 weeks, they are doin well. can anyone else confirm this or have any other suggestions?
  2. Hi all, i have two clown loaches with my africans. One of them has got very skiny while the other has grown nicely. Are these fish prone to any parasite or something. At the moment it is in the fry tank & has been getting well feed for over a week now with no real improvement (thought he may have been missing out). here's a pic, you can see he has "rebates" behind his head where he has lost weight. This angle makes him look alot "fatter" than he is, i assure you he is skiny!
  3. I thought they were "serpae neon tetra" but guess thats just splitting hairs
  4. i feed mostly JBL Novo Vert flake, JBL Novo rift pellets & bloodworms once a week. the jbl foods are high in crude protein but no other fish are developing the same markings
  5. Has anyone seen this before? My Red Zeb kinda looks like she may be growing algae. She used to be totally "clean" but now has this dark green stuff on her. What is it?

looking good. in the first pic of the e yellow, does it not have any black on its fins?
  10. i have a cf1200 & cf1000 & have not had any trouble at all in almost two years. I have a 200L tank which the cf1200 is on but i also have the hood filter running which gives an additional 900LPH which makes the water crystal clear. what species are you keeping?
  11. humans do that too, we dont know that it hurts the animals as they cant tell us! clove oil in an ice cream container or bucket best i reckon
  12. i contacted boulder bay & they told me it was $120 for 10kg + freight but i dont know where they are.
  13. i havn't spent too much time finding out about plants but i had cabomba in my community tank & i couldnt trim it fast enough. the ph was 7.5 & all other parameters normal, i used a sand base & small gravel substrate. I didn't use ferts or anything else. it just grew like weeds, about 2 1/2 inches in height per week. it even spread sideways across my tank.
  14. very nice! what size are they?

  16. it can depend on the water supply in your area. my local water supply is hard as, high ph so is perfect for africans. your aiming for a ph of about 7.8 or more so you'll need an arogonite (crushed marble) substrate with some limestoe rocks maybe to help the PH. thats what i have & it works well. i have heaps of filtration, 10 times the tank volume per hour & have the fish in my sig in there. they also mix well with very little aggression. i have found plastic plants to be the best, real ones get hammered & dug up.
  17. at first i thought that the vacume would hold the water up but they have an airstone in there so it should empty.......?
  18. i think im missing something here, do you want to get rid of BBA? Flourish excell will have it gone in a week or so & mine never came back.
  19. chlorine does disapate out of the water so a day or two still will have it gone or a day with an air pump. i use it cause i dont want to risk loosing my africans.
  20. is that a compliment in photography circles? excellent pics jake & well presented.
  21. it'll be fine as long as you put some in the rest of the water. i pour it directly into the tank then ad water after but have forgotten a few times, put it in after & it has not been a prob. Our water is chlorinated so i must use it, other areas aren't treated.

  23. also you dont need the airation from the pump if you dont want it . the water is airated plenty as it going through the wet dry filter system. i havnt had any air bubbles for over a year.

    Missing fry

i had lost a cpule over the last few days, thought they were dead & counted my losses. just cleaned the shark internal filter. one was in the plastic media tank with the noodles & the other was inside the main body itself. peeked at me when i was rinsing it in the sink.
  25. stop the plumber. my sunsun tank has the exact same filter system, mine came with an alternative fitting that does not have an outlet if you dont want the bubbles. its designed IMO to be used for air bubbles with a insert fitting that has a pipe & air valve for adjusting the amount of bubbles. if you do not want bubbles, then fit the other part like i have done.
