  1.   Thanks for that, that can be my job tomorrow, gets me of doing homework for school  I might get some liner of you, i'll PM you sometime.
  2.    I've got the message, I don't think they will fit through the door, good idea though.
  3. In my small space of 2.5m x 1m aviary available, I was looking into pond ideas and was considering half wine barrles. However after calcuating the most efficient way to hold as much water capacity as possible I thought I could make my own troughs to the last centimetre to get the most water capacity. If I made an outside of it with wood and lined the inside with pond lining, would the water hold? Any suggestions or names of people would make these would be appreciated. What wood, suggestions, what you have done and your ideas? The cheaper the better  The troughs would measure about 35cmW x 180cmL x 90cmH, and another two measuring approx 85cmL x 35cmw x 90cmH, with possibly a shelf for a top layer of fishtanks to keep the stock I will sell. This way for the bottom layer the water capacity would total about 1102L instead of about 300L. What do you recommend? :bounce:

    Oh No!!

Our floor isn't entirely level and it is higher slightly at one end also. No problem. I also can't get over how friendly and helpful 'fish people' are
  5. Thanks for that info Jude, I'll look around. Do you sell those wine barrels fishboi? The higher the better. I'll look into those aswell. Do you need to line them to make them waterproof? Thanks
  6. I have recently emptied out one of my avairies and was thinking of turning it into a small goldfish breeding area protected from cats and little children. The reason is that the area it is in doesn't get much sunlight so isn't very good for housing birds, and another forum said ponds should have not excessive sunlight, just a little. The space only measures 2.5Lx1mW with a smaller area of only 1mL aswell. I was thinking one single bathtub, are there any other things that could be used to get the most capacity of water or multiple compartments for seperating parents etc? What are the dimensions and water capacity of those wine barrels people use and would they be the better way to go? The aviary is protected from winter weather but it might be best not to have actual fishtanks incase a stornm smashed them. thanks :bounce:
  7. I might go into goldfish breeding, i'll let you know if I come across anything interesting.
  8. I did hose it down and then scoop out all the water and repeated again. The water oly has a slight green colour but you can still see the bottom. Interesting to hear about the dying algae, I'll get some plants and see how it turns out. The pond is quite shallow. Thanks for your help.
  9. The water is still green even though I emptied the whole thing out and refilled it. I migh give some minnows a go then because as I said I don't have the grow ponds etc for thousands of orandas. I'll find a temporary tank for the orandas and sell them on trademe. Does anyone have any pond plants or white cloud mountain minnows (even mutations) that they would sell? Any other cold water fish like the WCMM I should know of? No one has mentioned leopardfish, aren't these suitable? Couldn't really see the fish in the pond anyway.
  10. Ok. My pond is only a few hundred litres at the most. Suphew- how clear does the pond need to be to breed the minnows? I don't really have the space to accomodate the baby orandas and hate the thought of culling. I might sell my three orandas and three comets then in a few days if anyone is interested, or I'll put them on trademe.
  11. Didn't even realise  Thanks for that, some great ideas.
  12. AND IF I DO GET MOUNTAIN MINNOWS OR LEOPARDFISH HOW DO THEY MANAGE WINTER? I WAS THINKING POLYSTRENE FLOATING ON THE SURFACE IN WINTER TO KEEP SOME HEAT IN, THE POND IS ONLY QUITE SMALL.
  13. HI GUYS, I HAVE EMPTIED OUT MY POND TODAY BECAUSE THE ALGAE IN THE WATER MADE THE WATER TURN GREEN . IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY FILTRATION BUT THE WATER IS CONSTANTLY MOVING FROM THE WIND. I HAVE THESE TABLETS THAT KEEP IT CLEAN, WOULD THEY STOP FISH BREEDING AND DESTROY LIVE PLANTS? HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR PONDS CLEAN? I WAS THINKING TO SELL MY ORANDAS IN THERE NOW AND GET SOME RED RAMSHORN SNAILS AND WHITE CLOUD MOUNTAIN MINNOWS OR LEOPARDFISH, MY LFS SUPPLIES BOTH, WHAT DO YOU RECKON? MY THEORY WAS IF THEY WERE LEFT ALONE THEY WOULD HAVE YOUNG FRY AND SOME WOULD SURVIVE IN A PLANTED POND. WHAT PLANTS DO YOU RECOMMEND? ANY IDEAS? :-? THANKS

    Jebo Heaters

My ones were fully submersible, more expensive
  15. Hi, don't panic  If the tank was dark the fish would see it as their rest period and rest on the bottom of the tank, but they don't actually sleep  It would be a good idea to have some form of light during the day, even some natural light I find, any algae is eating and my anubias plants are steadily multiplying

    Jebo Heaters

Hopefully yours will work just the same, maybe I was lucky to get good ones.

    Jebo Heaters

    My masterpet ones worked well.
  18. Ahh, I get it now  . Its just that it was asked if they will be able to be sold and you said its only a draft. I thought they meant a risk to our environment, not endangered. Thanks
  19. Hi, so should we avoid buying them if they come up for sale in the meantime? :-? Thanks for that info, I would have probably bought a group.
  20. I may keep try still then. Thanks for the advise. I'll give them a go.
  21. Maybe I'll avoid albinos after all. Sorry about your losses

    ps. demasoni

So are these commonly available in NZ? Great spotting if they aren't 8)
  24. That poor mouse They are becoming a nuisance though, one just won't leave one of my avairies, no harm now as the birds are out, costing me a fortune in seed though. I do hate cats though, they have killed around $1000 of my birds in the past which is a lot of after school work for me If only there was some control over them, they have killed one of my favourite breeding pair of a rare strain aswell. Anyway, can't help those owners that don't care about stopping their natural instincts from happening, it is annoying Enough groaning from me
