K so after much searching and little to find I have bought what i hope is a male blue ram to breed her with. Seems a shame but was told this a better idea than crossing with a balloon - so we will see Also the 2 gold rams mum bought are female - so this blue fella will have a harem all to himself!! 5 females in total!!!
  2. If you do have anything you want to swap let me know - otherwise it is yours free if you pick it up
  3. 188 x 86cm (one of the sheets has a silver line/sticker through the middle which should be able to be removed)
  4. Ive got: Misty - 17yo cat, got her name cos her colours are unusual (blue, cream and white) and she looks like she is in the mist. Trixie - 18mth tabby tortie dunno why she got that name just came to me when i picked her up from the park. Spencer - Trixie's bro, Tabby and white, once again the name just came to me the day after i picked him up from the park. Muff - full name Little Miss Muffet, Fluffy Grey Female cat - once again just picked it out of nowhere Tabitha - nickname Tabi, tabby female. She also has the nickname of Monkey-Cat Gary - a white nymph fantail goldfish, my friend named her after Spongebobs Squarepants snail (Yes Gary is a female) Mr B - male bristlenose Other than that the rest of the fish just get called all sorts of names as I feel it fits them for that day
  5. go to Fair Go - they will sort it out for you
  6. I rung the pet shop in Kuripuni (Masterton Seeds and Pets) but they said they will only order in numbers asked for and cant guarantee that they will get a male They dont like having them "in stock" due to them being sensitive with water conditions and being aggressive etc. Heading Welly direction (Churton Park) on the 20th so may have to swing by petone - if i can get my ride to take a detour
  7. how much are they darkfur? Would love to get a male as i have a female gold ram who needs a mate. Seems a shame but since cant find any normal male gold rams the only option left is blues...
  8. congrats thats awesome!! The one time Mums gold rams spawned the parent raised the eggs and were raising the fry, then i removed the parents and the fry died so if the parents are doing a good job leave them to it - thats my advice Also buy some decap brine shrimp eggs great for feeding to the parents and to the fry once they are a bit bigger! Good luck!!
  9. way cool!! Where have all the blue rams gone? Used to see them quite a lot but not at the mo But these electric blue rams are REAL cool!!
  10. I have taken plants (including java moss) from local streams before and put them in my tank or pond, I just rinsed them throughly under the hose and if i was really worried about lil bugs etc i put them in a bucket and rinsed them every couple of days until i thought the plants were clean enough and then i put them in the tank. Oops thats a really long sentence lol

Anyone have a male gold ram i can buy (or maybe even borrow) as i havn't been very succesful in finding another male Otherwise will have to get a blue ram male... In the end only one fry survived and is happily swimming around in the guppy tank - it is around 3cm (at a guess) and i think a female?????? But not sure how to tell at this size. Mum bought a couple more golden rams at the Animates Aqua Fun Day but they may be females too They are very pale at the mo so is hard to tell and they are also quite small.
  12. anyone want any? WOuld need to pick up.
  13. what the best way to send plants? I have a rather large indian fern and some dwarf sag (?) and proly some jave moss and fern
  14. Just had old ranch sliders removed - would the glass be any good for fish tanks?
  15. I have 3 BN's - 1 at work and 2 at home. I am pretty sure the one at work is a male and he lives in a cool water tank (has a heater set at its lowest) with 2 young goldfish. He is around 12cm long. He keeps the algae WAY down. Used to have to clean the tank constantly - but since having him in there we have not had to clean the tank at all, except for water changes and top ups. Every now and again he gets grumpy and attacks the goldfish suckering their faces - he killed a few before we realised what he was doing!! However he has been really calm since we added more rocks for him to hide in and divided the tank for around 6months. Have found the males kept on their own can get a bit aggro. The male at home was removed from his girlfriend and put into my mums tank with her long finned gold rams and he suckered its face/eye, eventually the infection killed the gold ram Suckd too cos was about to attempt breeding the ram (not balloons!). The female i have had no probs with at all - o except occasionally she likes to pull leaves off one of my plants Other than this they are one of the coolest fish. The one at work is called Mr B and we have a note on the tank asking people to spot him - people spend ages looking for him

Yeah was SOOOOOO GUTTED!!!!! dunno wat kind of infection. His eye was popped out (like popeye) but he also had swelling all over that side of his face and it was red - looked a bit like the bristlenose had suckered his face!!??? This has happened to the goldfish at work - seems to be the male BN's who do this as i never have a problem with the female. The male BN at home will be removed form that particular tank (the one with cockatoo cichlids and the ram) and put in with the guppies, platies and his female BN, for safe keeping. Have treated his tank with meth blue (i think thats what it was?) and the tank he died in with melafix.

Gutted!! Only 2 seem to have made it And now the father has died of some kind of infection
  18. I found the dwarf chain loaches did a great job
  19. If you have acidic water, like i seem to get in my tanks, it will eat away (dissolve) the shells. So i dont use fancy shells, just ones i find on the beach
  20. LOL!! FYI Whiskas was the name of one of my fave goldfish when i was younger - he was eaten by the cat, didn't taste too good and was spat out! Hence the fish got his name
  21. Infection has almost gone - it is now right at the base by his tail, might give him another salt bath. The children are very happy to see Nemo, or Fish 2 or wateva they call him on the day, swimming around with the other fish
  22. Well its that time again, time for these animals to be culled - 180 or so this year. If you would like to adopt a Kaimanawa Pony go to http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/threats-and-impacts/animal-pests/animal-pests-a-z/kaimanawa-horses/you-can-help/ for contact details for adopting these beautiful and hardy animals. They are around $200 per pony or you can make a donation to the trust (i read that in the Dominion Post). I have ridden a Kaimanawa Pony and they are such a lovely ride - obviously they need to first be broken in but they are very intelligent and apparently not difficult to train/break-in. Just putting the call out to let people know

thinki will have to try again! Not so good at keeping them alive without mum and dad present - no probs just gotta change a couple of tanks around to try again
  24. Yep they easy to breed - put males and females in a tank and away they go. They dont tend to eat their young as much as guppies and the like, however they do seem to have less fry per drop. They also dont mind being in a smallish tank. They have smallish mouths so when i fed them mosquito larvae they couldn't eat the larger ones, maybe this is why they dont tend to eat their young. I have noticed that ever since i have had more plants in the tank they dont seem to breed as much (they bred more when there were hardly any plants in the tank)- not sure what that is about... I dont currently have any to go though.
  25. Well this was a weird one so i just thougt i would share: Last week i noticed that one of the goldies in the tank at work looked as if he had been suckered by the Bristlenose - he had a big red grazed, swollen, blistered mark over his eye. Two days later the swelling and redness had moved back towards the gills, the next day the "infection" had moved further back on the fishes body - this has continued until today when the swelling has got to the tail! The fish is none the worse for wear! I did treat him on Friday with a salt bath. Just thought it a strange things to happen and wished i had taken pics each day to show you all the progression fro front to back. It has been so strange to come in each day and see the swollen bump has moved along the fishes body. BTW when the swelling moved back where it was the day before is all normal!
