    Boxer shrimps

My experance with Boxer Shrimp is quite different. I would suggest that given more room the animals will behaive less aggressivly. The environment may just be inaproproiate for them. Pies

    overflow size

IRA, your tank has a 20mm outlet overflow hole, with a 25mm standpipe. I know, I built it Pies

    overflow size

My tank is 1,450 litres, its powered by an IWAKI 100, it has 1x 40mm outlet in the overflow. I am confident I could increase the pump size by 50% and it would still easily cope. More than enough. Pie
  8. I don't have the ones your looking for Chimera but I have seen at least 3 different Nudi in my tank. The most common a very small (5-10mm all white one). Pies
  9. I have about 1,000 litres of water outside of the display. It is loaded with copepods, mysidd shrimps and other critters/insects. I feed my tank rarely (twice a week max). I am of the belif it because my tank is able to provide much of its own food for the life, in particular copepods/mysidd & algae of course. Pie
  10. I have at least 4 plate acros, 2 I can frag. Happy to organise a trade. Pies
  11. If you want a book, the best book I have read for tank setup is 'The natural Reef Aquairum' by Tullock (tfh publication). Explains all the sciences, is very modern, full of good information about how liverock tanks work. There are many ways to run a reef, but the 'natura' method (rock and skimmer) is the most common, the most natural, and possibly the easiest. 9/10 reccomended reading. Pie

    AUCKLAND REEF CLUB

Not that it affects me, but as soon as you hire a premesis it costs money, which it shouldn't. At the beginning there will be less than a dozen people, Janes fish club has over 20 attendants and they don't hire a place. I susgest meeting at someones home. All the 'drama' aside, if you do a different location each time, on a roster. Another disadvantage of using a conference room/hall etc is there won't be any tanks there. For me, I would not attend a meeting somewhere that I couldn't look at a tank. I would want to see other peoples tanks and setups, good place to start conversations and swap/sell frags/equipment. My 2 cents, but like I said, I am not in Auckland. Pies
  13. I am sure it will be sweet, the OM have a pretty good reputation not widly used but many who do use them rate them with only minor niggles. I looked at it seriously for my own tank before discounting it. Any pics of the tank at the moment? I havn't seen pictures of anyones stuff other than my own. Pics! Pies
  14. Sweet, just though i'd prompt you incase you hadn't fully thought things through, but looks like its all go. When will it be up and running? I paied about $60 for the 40mm union tap from memory Pie
  15. Question. I assume the black thing at the back is the pump? My question, I see you have a union, how would you disconnect the pump without draining the tank? Shouldn't this be a union/tap combo? OK I have another question Why all the spigits to reduce the pipe size? Why not just use one pip size (say 40mm, I think thats whats pictured) and just do the conversion right at the end of the pipe (the tank inlet)? Maximum flow everywhere and then just reduction right at the end of the plumbing? Look foward to seeing it finished. Pie

    Boxer shrimps

Has. My tank is a little larger than 200 litres. FYI - The green/blue markings on the belly mean its a female, its the place where they store the babies before releasing them. It can swell to over 2-3 times the size of their body. Don't over crowd them. Good luck Pies
  18. I can see this will go nowhere, into and argeument in symantics over 'benifit'. Without presenting the long division (i'll leave that to the math experts) think on this: You have a 1000 litre tank. It has 100ppm nitrates. If you do a 20% water change, the nitrates will read lower, than if you did a 20% water change slowly over a 7 day period. Assuming that you are adding no nitrates of course. The water you change in (the good stuff) will be removed, thus weakening its effect. Same thig if you take a 5th of burbon, and do the same experiment, the 20% change will leave less burbon in the bottle than if you added 1% in, then shook the bottle, and took 1% out - repeat until 20% is added. At least thats what my C+ tells me. Pies

    Boxer shrimps

Aparantly they need iodine and magnesium to molt. I make no effort to keep or feed mine other than the usual (good quality water) and all is well. Mine are always hiding unless I feed frozen or thelights are off. They are the kings of the tank when the lights are down. Mine have spawned at least 4 times that I am aware of. Great shrimp, good luck with them. Pie

You should quantify this with 'in my experance', I know people who have had problems who belive that it was to blame. I stoped using it because of there warnings. Now I can't say they are true or not, but I belive it, your opnion, Alois or Saliferts Lawers are unlikley to change my mind. I used to just buy directly from Alois and cut the store out completly, didn't have any problems with contracts etc then. Still i wish I could still buy from Alois directly, and if I was prepared to sit back and not speak my mind I am sure I could, but its not in my nature. Your right about face to face, however I feel I am being pushed, so I am pushing back. Perhaps that shows imaturity on my part, but I see no other course of action open to me. Pie

Or the comercial section, its like an add. Cracker, its nice that you feel this way, but much of what you have written is untrue (perhapps not from your perspecitve but from mine). I could make a list that long of people who have been very UNHAPPY with products and dealings they have had with Alois over the years. My take on much of this is people are gravitated to Alois because he sells so much stuff directly, its a cheaper and only option other than retail. When I setup my tank, I purchased 90% of my stuff from Alois, cutting out the pet-stores and going directly. As stated in my previous posts its a shame that Alois has taken a dislike to me as there is much I am looking to buy right now that I would have usually got from him but am now forced to find other means. I dont dislike Alois, and he was always good to me, but you need to have both eyes wide open. Pie
  24. I enjoyed having wholesale access to fish, coral, supliments, test kits, light bulbs etc. Its hardly in my own best interests to agrivate you as it has removed my access cheap kit and stock. I would much rather deal with you directly than go through the shops, as its so much cheaper to buy directly from you. So tell me, how am I looking after number one, if anything I have burned my bridges not made any. Pie
