  1. yea air is in main tank, possibly not enough water flow through the trap then?? I change the cucumber as much as i can but will do it more now
  2. Those look sooooo awesome.... well done
  3. well there is air going into the tank for the sponge filter so i dont think it was that as a ll other fish were acting fine I am coming to think that it was the cucumber that did it... Nothing else that i can think of that could of done it Owell... they will spawn again (hopefully) Rogan
  4. the cucumber had only been in there 18 hours max If the pH had crashed then the other fish wouldnt of been perfect, and i would of lost my baby guppys that are in the tank aswel.... There isnt an airstone or anything in the trap either and i dont feed brine shrimp
  5. The water change was nothing out of the ordinary, put the correct amount of stress coat in, water temp.... it was a guess but i thougt very good Quite possibly but the older baby BN in the same tank were munching the same cucumber.... Only me and my mum live in the house, everybody else is at uni etc. not possible that one, mum loves the fish and has her own.... Thanks for the reply ira Rogan
  6. i have just found around 35, one and a half month old baby BN's dead. 5 others were still alive. they were floating in a breeding trap in a 100L tank which only has: Breeding pair of BN 11 guppys And 15 other babys from the previous spawn All other fish are fine Water Params: Ph 6 (dont know why it is so low but has been like this for ages) Nitrite 0.50 (this may be the killer???) Ammonia 0 Nitrate 10 Nothing too servere i thought. Yesterday i did the usual water change. Yesterday night i gave them a new piece of cucumber Tonight they were belly up, DEAD Any reasons why you think they would have died??
  7. I have decided to take as many plants as possible out of my other tanks (tanks need a prune anyways ) and shove them into this tank. this way, the plants will be battling the algae for nutrients (is this correct??) I also have 2 36 W tubes running on it. should i take one out untill i get the plants grunting... will this help the situation?? Thoughts PLEASE!!! Rogan
  8. thanks caper I have just added a little bit of Pennywort (we think) to the tank (courtesy of jude!!! ) might have to do a bit of a prune soon as the fish have no room to swim Rogan
  9. the tank does get a bit of sunlight (when to suns out ) I had the light on all day today and came home to the tank being SLIGHTLY cloudy and LOTS of the brown algae all over the sand.... I was trying to get some pertasium permanganate a little while ago but couldnt get any, will try harder this time Rogan

  11. hey blue, thanks for that info. I ahev put a couple BN in there to try get rid of the brown stuf and the gray stuff is still a mystery. it pretty much does crumble when touched yea. Im going to take the DW out and give it another good wash i think and then put it in again. One more question, What is the best way to get algae off new plants im putting into the tank??? is a bleach solution the best?? Thanks Rogan

    Algae

I am having a bit of a problem in my tank at the moment with algae I had cyanobacteria but treated it with erythomicin about 1 month back so it all cleared up. i then started putting a few plants in the tank and a couple fish and driftwood etc. I now have Brown slimy algae (looks like a brown cyano) in the tank. it grows over the sand and on the sides etc. It isnt the dead cyano because i have got rid of all that stuf, this stuf just keeps growing and is sort of hard to syphon off...... Does anybody know what it is?? Heres a shocking pic of it just above the sand Same place but from front...its just to the right of the thermometer strip. Here it is on the filter Any ideas?? There is another algae also in there growing on a patch of the driftwood... it looks like bba but it is solid gray!!!???!!!??? I have got a pic of it buts its not great... You may be able to see the gray spot to the right of the java fern.... Any ideas on this aswell?? Thanks Rogan

  21. ive had a try at making one but it didnt turn out very good  Dark would you be able to show me how to make that reactor out of undergravel filter parts?? And u said that those kits cost $20 wholesale?? If you could find me one i would be happy to pay you to get me one....im sure i couldnt get one that price around here.... Rogan
  22. is there more than one?? if theres only the one then just pull it out Problem solved
  23. ok Is it actually a slug as in moving around or just a white 'mass' that looks like a slug? It could posibly be a snail that came in on the plants and looks like a slug or maybe even a snail missing the shell :-? :-? Just a few 'posibilities' Rogan
