  1. Nano is another word for small A nano tank is a small tank. Anything up to 100L's or so (in my books anyways) would be a small tank, therefore being a nano HTH
  2. Now those are some nice looking discus, and of course... From ronnie!!! Well done Lorrainel!
  3. You could get keyholes. They grow to about 6-8cm max, and are very friendly and nice cichlids. They are easy to sex aswell, meaning you can easily get a M & F, And they are also easy to breed. Mine have laid eggs before but they didnt go very far in my community!! I have a pair in with angels, kribs, pencilfish, harlequins, guppys, bristlenose, corys etc and they are absolutely fine HTH
  4. yea, ive moved angel eggs like that a few times before and they hve always eaten them  well done on the spawning though........PICS!!!!
  5. I dont need any more plants Luke! I can take them out of my planted tank mate!!! I needa get some MW but i can get them free i think 8) No more $$ for you!
  6. Just snapped a few better pics, heres one of them that came out average And heres a crap pic of their tank ATM, need to get some more plant in there!! I put 5 baby albino corys in with them too, just to eat the leftovers!! Corys rock!
  7. Thanks guys. Your babys look awesome quack! Well done!. I dont have much live food here, but i will get a microworm culture on the weekend hopefully so that may give them something small to eat. But ATM im just feeding them novo bits, flake and frozen bloodworms.
  8. Those corals in the backround need fragging slappers.... PM when youve done it  8) Haha cool fishys!
  9. 6 little tiny baby TRUE Altums arrived in the mail yesterday from Amazonian!! Thought i would just share my new babys with everyone! They are so awesome! Heres a couple quick pics They are in a 2 foot tank of their own to grow them out, but will eventualy be the rulers of my big planted tank... They are still a little bit shy Rogan
  10. On over seas sites i read, they often use paint on their pvc pipes and stuff that is going into the tank. They use a paint called krylon fusion. It bonds with wotever it is painted onto and becomes harmless. HTH
  11. Just any normal spray on paint. For 'normal' tanks i just use a matt black, but for my marine tank i used marine blue. Clean the areas you are painting with some turps or something similiar, then let it dry completely, then newspaper and mask the rest of the tank off and spray the tank lightly, but do lots of coats. This is the way i have had great success with
  12. Wicked deal, well done. I started my first ever reef tank 3 months ago now. I asked quite a few questions here and they were answered very well by some people here. Some of the reefers on here are very helpful, and realy know their stuff. One thing i wouldnt reccomend doing, is topping up with tap water. Get new filter stuf for the RODI unit that comes with it, and you will be glad you did. My tank has had the most chronic brown algae (covers EVERYTHING) since when i started using tap water, but i am buying a DI unit now so hopefully things will get better!! I use water from the sea, only because i dont have lots of RODI water to use for ASW, and i dont wana buy salt mix  NSW (for a small tank) is very easy to get. For my tank, i only need 30 odd Litres, so i just go fill up two 20L water containers, chuck them back in the boot, then take them home and do my water change. You will get hooked i warn you now!! Good luck!
  13. Yea, not long ago i found an extension cord in the garage that the female socket was wrecked so i cut it off and am now using the rest of the cord, very long and is earthed and everything... very useful...
  14. Yer the last ones i bought did have 6500K written on them, but only small print
  15. 20", whats that in metric?? About 500 isnt it? I would go for 4 36W, 4 foot tubes. The units can be sourced very cheap at bunnings or similiar (just need to be wired) and the tubes are also VERY cheap at bunnings (i payed $6 each for my last two 6500K tubes) My tank is 4 foot, and is 500mm deep, and i only have 2 36W tubes on it ATM and my plants are growing nuts, runners from swords and the lotus go everywhere! I arent running any co2 ATM either. I would reccomend running co2 if you used 4 or so tubes though.... HTH
  16. OH yer i dont plan to do anything until the skimmer has been running and is well in truely settled in man...
  17. uhhhh, nope?!?! Plants do best under exact sunlight, so in the aquarium we try and replicate the light ratings of the sun, to get the best plant growth and looks. 6500K is white, being very close to the suns rays in colour etc. But IMO, plants and fish, and general viewing of the tank look best under 8000K or thereabouts.... And about the moonlighting... You should never leave any light on all night, fish need to sleep, just like we do. HTH
  18. moonlighting doesnt do anything at all realy. it is just for your viewing pleasure. People often have the moonlights switch on after the main lights go out, and stay for half an our or so, just so you can see the fish under a 'cool' blue effect, watching their night procedures. It probably settles the fish down for bed aswell....
  19. Personally, I would have two 8000K bulbs for the plants, a 10000K bulb for looks on the fish, and a 14 or 20000K bulb for moonlighting... thats how i would have it anyways......
  20. Yer, it is a young tank, but i duno. Wouldnt mind giving the Vodka a go to get rid of some of the nutrients... Once i get the halide on the algae is guna go even more nuts, so i think i will give it a try....
  21. Been cycled for about 2 months now
