  1. If you have any real plants in the tank, then keep the lights on for 10 - 12 hours each day. If you dont have any real plants, then its up to you; you can leave them on all day (which is preferred by most) or you can just put them on for a little bit when its semi dark so you can see your fish better, and once it brightens up you could turn it off if you feel like it. As for the fish going ballistic, its probably a big shock to go from bright, to sudden darkness, and vise versa, so if you light the surrounding room first, then turn off the tank light, then the room light, they shouldnt get as scared from the sudden change HTH
  2. Livingart wildlife park have a big outside encloser with about 30 odd turtles in it with heaps of space to swim and bath.... his turtles would be the happiest turtles around!

  11. Its not so much those things mincie, but its the balance of those things. If the balance is not correct, you will get algae. easy as that
  12. I dont think there is a link between filtration and algae, BUT, i do know that algae doesnt like to grow in direct flow But anyway, what you wanted.... Filtration: 4.8  Algae: 5! Algae eaters: 2 large BN, 4 medium GBA, Large SAE, Hundreds of baby BN, and 1 clown pleco (dno if that is an algae eater or not though) No chemicals - Chemicals are bad!
  13. Yea, canister filters are designed to work with no head height. Using it as a return pump from the sump will lower the flow rate heaps (as ira stated) and will possibly burn out the pump prematurely
  14. Same thing sub.z, nasty fish. As Al said, they can get very nasty especially when older (not saying they arent when young tho!) So i would keep away from them.
  15. You only need a small tank to spawn them in, Why not put some dividers into an existing tank. Say a two footer. Could easily be divided up into a couple 1 foot tanks' thats enough for a pair to spawn... Then use your bigger tanks for growout tanks
  16. Chinese algae eaters dont eat algae anywho ive found... others may have different opinions though I am in no way an axy expert (i hate the things ) but i do know that on hot ish days when the temp gets too hot, they dont like it, and often end up floating on the surface. I have seen people put them into their fridges before in a small container just to keep them cool enough. Sharn has done it before, and im sure she'll pipe in (shes an axy nut) Good luck with them
  17. Yea Tim would be your best bet. He has some pretty alright prices from what ive seen
