Take as much water as you can from the main tank and put it into the 22L tank then transfer the babys over somehow (by themselves) and put a heater in with them(set to the same as the main tank!) They wont need heaps of water to start off with, just enough to keep them there, plus put an airstone in if you can. Just put another cup full into the smaller tank every few hours until it is at a level you are happy with. That way the fry wont get shocked too much by water parameters... Other than that theres not alot else you can do. if these ones dotn survive, setup the small tank and put the pair in there to breed, and when they do, take them out and chuck them back into the other tank (or leave one or both there if you want) HTH

Id say that they are pretty much gone from NZ, unless theres someone out there with one or two and are keeping quiet so they dont get hounded with people wanting to buy them. Then again, it wouldnt suprise me if some importer has got a colony out in the *back room* trying to breed them up and in a few years we will suddenly see hundreds of them swarming the shops..... Good luck finding any

I have been to highway fisheries just out of town here (an importer) and have seen their setup. They literally had thousands of fighters there, all in seperate tanks (the males) and all different varietys and colours. I didnt pay any attention to the types of bettas they were, but im sure if you got hold of them, and got on their good side (and prepared to pay cash up front!) they would consider getting some nice bettas in with their next order.

Im seriously considering setting up a "river tank" for a group of these guys. They look so cool and i would love to spawn them. Purple catfish, you said in one of your other threads that you had heard they werent being imported anymore... was this true???

The easiest way to get a few fry is to have HEAPS of floating plant in the tank. In my platy tank i have indian fern floating on the surface, covering the whole tank, about 6cm thick. I have had HEAPS of babys from them, and its only a pair in there!

Oh hell no, a pair of rams in there would be wicked. its actually not a bad sized tank. you could have a pair of rams, some algae eaters, some schooling fish and even a bigger 'feature' fish or two....

Yea looks like a leather. (sarcophyton or something i believe) They have polyps that extend from the top and make them look quite nice.

I cant be bothered figuring out the literage but that is a not too bad sized tank. Its about 38cm high and wide, and about 75ish cm long i think.

I use peat from mitre ten. It comes in a big Yellow Bale of either 50 or 100L's and when wet it expands to twice the size. Its pretty cheap too. i payed $17 for a 50L, but i have seen them for $12 at other places....

Um most of my fish are only small. I have some firemouths and uarus though that will get big with time.... im thinking that grated slices would be good. wouldnt get too much waste then either....

How does everyone else feed their fish ox heart? I have one in the freezer and have been meaning to get it out and start feeding it but it would be interesting to find out what others do.... Im thinking of just grating it frozen and just pulling a bit out and putting it into the tank when i want it.... sounds good? dont need to be cooked does it?

Yep, i agree with markoshark, just let the cardinals settle in, and once they get more familiar with their surroundings they will come out more and go looking for food..... most fish wont just hide and starve to death, they will look for food if they are hungry.... you never know, they are probably eating any left over food off the gravel once the lgihts are out and everyone else is asleep
