  1. heh, yea you should do that too
  2. Well it sounds like you have done it right so far!!!
  3. How do you acclimatize the fish to their new environments?
  4. I couldnt put a time frame on cleaning my filters if i tried.... i dont do them regularly, just when i feel i need too.... When they become quite decreased in flow, i usually give them a clean and they go for another couple months
  5. I have choc australe and N. korthausae yellow. I got a trio of each when they were still very young. They are now pretty much full grown and ive had them for probably 4 months or so? I havent had any trouble with them. only lost one fish and that was my male australe, dunno why he died, but it was well after i got them. When i first got them they didnt get my full attention so would have missed a few water changes, feeding etc, but now they are lovely fish that get a water change every day, and i have just started the nothos spawning even..... They seem to be pretty hardy fish but i cant realy comment on different kinds etc as im still pretty new to it all aswell
  6. Thats an awesome idea!!!!
  7. Thanks guys. ill leave them for a fortnight this time, and next time i might do what you do alanmin.... Worth a try
  8. Grrrrrrrrrrr  No plants!!! Hehe jks, nice fronts there mate!
  9. Hey Im gunna have a go at spawning my korthausae yellows in a small container of peat but couldnt realy find any info on how long to leave the container in with them for.... What would be the reccomended time??? I have tryed putting gravel on the bottom of the tank for them to spawn in, then syphon out but it didnt realy work too well, so im gunna try this way now.... i just wanna see whats best for me Thanks!
  10. an UG filter with nothing on top of it is pointless.... you may aswell have no filter in the tank.... go buy a sponge filter for $10 or so and put that in... much better...
  11. Sweet. i will chuck a little bit of wood in there for the BN, just to give them something to suck on. Wont alter pH much, especially since im gunna have coral rock and coral sand in there i spose  Thanks for the help guys/girls... i will post pics once everythings up and running
  12. Ohk, will stick with the Brichardis for now then. Have found a place to buy some so will hopefully get some next weekend.... Gotta move the fish that are currently residing in the 120L tank into another couple tanks in the fishroom then chuck my coral rock etc in.... then ill be ready for some nice Africans Im gunna put a BN or two with the brichardis aswell, that will be fine aye?
  13. Demasoni, they wouldnt go with brichardis right? because they are Mbuna and brichs are tangs.. that right? What would you reccomend? 3 brichardis or 3 demasoni... im quite liking both to be honest  (what are you saying Rogan?!?!?! )
  14. lol Caryl. i cringed when i read it too, and your the first person i thought of  I chucked another little stand in the corner of the fishroom by the window and put my new 18 litre tank on it. I chucked my WCMM in it. they have been outside on a 20L bucket full of old leaves and stuff. Havent fed them in ages, they are tough little things so thought id better give them a break and put them in the slightly warmer room
  15. It will be the driftwood doing that, but i would just leave it at that. as long as its STABLE the fish wont mind. if you realy want to have it higher, then a shell or two to the filter, or some bird grit. DONT use chemicals to raise your pH
  16. Moved the fish from the cube into the 120L last night, and this morning i cleaned out the cube and have set it back up in me new bedroom beside my bed I also scored another little tank off a mate this morning for ten bucks. its 370 x 220 x 230, so about 18 litres. will make a cool little killie tank or a little tank for something. I now have 3 divided parts of one tank ready for fish, plus this little one could be setup in a second (i have aged water in barrel, nice and warm ) so now i need to get going... Might chuck my bronze corys into somewhere as they are laying eggs everywhere in the large community tank  I will put osme pics up once things start to look better
  17. Sorry but got another favourite Harlequin Rasbora (Rasbora heteromorpha or Trigonostigma heteromorpha) The full colour that these fish get is not shown very well in that photo. They get much darker and shimmer in the light. The Harlequin Rasbora inhabits streams and other watercourses characterised principally by low mineral content, high concentrations of dissolved humic acids, a conesquence of those waters flowing through peat swamp forests. A little snippet about them from the interweb:
  18. Pic from www.thetropicaltank.co.uk Senegalus Bichir (Polypterus Senegalus) A native of African lakes such as Lake Albert, Rudolf, Senegal and Chad, this Bichir species is territorial and intolerant of its own kind unless provided with ample room in the aquarium. Keep with other fish of the same size and temperment. Stock the tank with lots of plants, driftwood and rocks. Feed meaty foods such as beef heart, as well as live fish on occassion if possible. Very friendly fish once they get to know you, and will eat hand feed.
  19. People with discus dont go away for more than 2 days at a time
  20. wow looking great! holding of with the corys was a good idea, well done for listening
  21. Oh, i also moved my 120L tank (it was sitting with only a few BN in it) into my new bedroom... its gunna be my African tank, but first i need to transfer the fish from my 50L cube into, then move the cube into my new bedroom aswell, and then put the fish back into it once its cycled (im gunna start it again cos its ugly ATM lol) then i can get the Africans (gunna have coral sand or aragonite on the bottom, and coral rock in it, got them both out int he garage waiting i also need a better filter for it, not just sum pussy little cosmo thing EDIT: woops, forgot the picture lol
  22. Well i moved the killies into their new tanks last night, and this morning i went over to look at some fish shops. ended up at living waters closing down sale(they are shutting the doors tomorrow!! a bit still left so get down there and get some bargains....) anyway, i walked away with 35 metres of quality silicon airline tubing, 2 corner air filter thingys and some airstones, $60 odd worth for $30 odd Cleaned out the old killie tank, put the dividers in (not so permanent this time, just split airline down the sides), painted the back and then chucked it into the fishroom beside the other killie tanks..... Excuse the mess You can see the airline box to the right of the photo sitting up on the 3 footer.... Got an airstone in each end of the new tank, plus a sponge/box filter in the middle.... Needa get a couple more sponge filters for the ends, then ill be sussed.... I also need a bigger pump to put in my water aging barrel.... the 1200lph one in there atm took about 10 minutes to pump the water 1-2 metres accross the room into this tank
  23. Yep good advice from Caryl - Tanks looking nice BTW
