  1. You make a good point cichlid7
  2. 8)  You'd think it would be an easy decision but I can't make up my mind.....it's big enough that I could go for a large species like Oscars or Arowana, or I could make it a planted community tank and use my 200 litre (the current planted comm) for breeding/growout purposes. I can't make up my mind but I'm leaning toward the second option.
  3. I know of one, Melanochromis Johanni but there's bound to be others.

  9. Hi and welcome to the forum :bounce: You certainly have MTS......most of us do. My first tank was 90 litres, I now have 9 tanks running and I have a 10th one blocking my hallway until I decide what I'm going to put in it  :bounce:
  10. Hi Peter, welcome to the forums :bounce: You can cycle a tank without fish but you need to add ammonia to feed the bacteria. I've never done it that way.....I use the method Wok has suggested, starting with a few fish and adding more after things have settled. You'll need to have a test kit, if you don't have one already, to test for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. The ammonia will be present first. As soon as I detect ammonia I do a 50% water change. I test the tank daily and if the ammonia has risen I do another 50% WC. The beneficial bacteria will start to consume the ammonia and the readings will stabalise and then decrease. I then start testing for Nitrite, and follow the same procedure. At the start of the cycle I'll be doing 50% WCs daily, more if necessary. As the ammonia and nitrite come under control the WCs will be every second then third day and when they're both at 0.00 the WCs are weekly to keep the nitrates in check.

Hi yeh_buddy. I agree with Caper, the ammonia is too high. It should be 0.00. You've already done the best thing you could've done....a water change. I'd do them daily until the ammonia drops. How long has the tank been set up for? Has the filter been disturbed lately?
