  1. I want something that will go poof no phosphates no nitrates, have an ongoing problem with a tank, cant plant it cant mess with it too much, tried constant water changes even tried a water change with change /lack of food thank god the pool vacuum hose can reach the tank, (hmm wonder if I can use the vaccy scrubber in the tank). If I had the know-how and the dineros I would build an indoor bog garden, come to think of it a kidney pond in a frame would be pretty cool. ok quick brain flit, bog garden/pond upstairs (more natural light for a start) syphoning into tank rather than out

I have another idea.......will make a call and see if there is any left, if there is why not a trip in to pick what you want.

    Rata logs

Tell you what I will put some in the basement. Let me know what lengths and I will save it from the chainsaw, not happy about it going for firewood but it was free. Should ring and see if there is anymore. Sizes range from chunks to 8 ft logs Beautiful beautiful wood. My thought is to make an artificial reef for malawis with it. Since thats the plan for the 8 footer. Any glaziers want to do a deal?????? Come to think of it I will need to put it in before I get a new end for it, considering thats the only way I will get the piece I have in mind actually in the tank

    Rata logs

BEFORE I FORGET AND THE CHAINSAW GETS THE REST, I happen to have a large pile of swamp rata, felled 100 years ago and buried. Dug up a couple of months ago and slowly weathering on my drive. There is a fair bit there ranging from stumps downwards. If anyone wants any (remember this is our firewoord) for tanks come and get some.
  8. Had 4 oscars in a 5 footer for short time they were happy in there but the water needed changing almost daily...mucky buggers.
  9. Its not marine but it might be worth looking at pool pumps for salt water operation, I guess since salt water pools have become popular the possibility of pumps and filters for salt use is a possibility. For some base figures.......a brand new sand filter (plastic) is $700 an aquatic pump that can push anywhere near the same amount........$1000+. How does the national aquarium pull off filtration? I guess in some of the tanks using sea water wouldnt be a good idea.
  10. have been thinking about this as I need to do something about mine...2 external filters totalling 4500lph isnt enough. So far the plan is.......warehouse pool pump...cartridge filter type and somehow build a sealed sump or a spa sand filter. Works out miles cheaper than a pump equivilent. I am going to talk to an aquaintance who has experience in building uv filters about building one into it. Damn tank has a phospate problem, I suspect our water supply is 80% of the problem.
  11. bit late but where are you based? Depending on where, depends on my interest
  12. EXCELLENT THANK YOU. Will see you guys sometime Saturday afternnon, maybe we will get cheecky and fish on the centre sanctuary limits.
  13. must pack truck tonight. whats the story for friday?
  14. replaced mine not so long ago..was $25 for the connector
  15. wow I was tired last night, I also talked to a friend last night who is going to talk to another friend of his who has just bought a fully furnished house in Turangi. Will see what comes of that, but I am all on for this trip. WOOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  16. no worries dave, its not an isssue if you cant...usual fishing thing though, all of us mles and me (female) are happy bunking down. One is a real novice as in I taught him so real basics yesterday, and one knows what he is doing.
  17. I will be bringing along a couple of flyfishing club memebers for some fishing as well, we can easily stay at club habitat, if you need accommodation freed up. Also if anyone else is staying there I can leave instructions with the front desk to say where we are. Its all on here

    Finding Nemo

hell this makes me sorely tempted to set upi a marine tank and let the local paper know. Since we happen to live in an area where the little darlings get everything they could ever dream or demand of.
  19. up until about a month ago there had been very little rain in turangi, the lake levels were low and I noticed that the runs were about 6 weeks late. The trout were at the point where they werent waiting for fresh water before heading up and the jacks and hens were full to bursting. I dont know the swamp well but I would hazard a guess that the mollies found somewhere to hole up in while waiting for the rain.
  20. Just for one, if it comes down to it there is always club habitat, but it wouldnt be my forst choice for a bunkhouse. But it is cheap. I can probably bring 6-7 rods, and maybe source a few more. Those who wish to are responsible for their licences and you must have a licence, the doc officer could probably do this on the day.
  21. I am in, and if anyone wants to learn to flyfish while we are there let me know so I can bring some extra rods.
  22. For interest and information I have the river ecology report and also notice of upcoming public meeting. Below is the notice, email me if you want the current ecology report. Renewal of the Resource Consent To Take Water from Waikanae River for Public Supply Purposes Notice of Meeting - Update on Investigations on the Waikanae River As you will be aware, Kapiti Coast District Council are undertaking investigations and monitoring on the Waikanae River which will lead to an application to renew the resource consent to take water from the Waikanae River for public supply and, (related to the water take), to discharge treated and untreated water into the Waikanae River through a stormwater drain. I wrote to you on 31 July with an update of this project, and provided copies of the final methodology for the investigations being undertaken, and the report on the River Recharge proposal. Other work has been completed since the public meeting in April 2003, including the ecological investigations and the IFIM survey. You are invited to a meeting where the ecological and IFIM investigations will be presented and Opus International Consultants, who are managing the investigations and monitoring on behalf of Council, will be available to answer any questions and receive any feedback. An update on progress on the remaining investigations and monitoring will also be provided. The meeting will be held on Tuesday 16 September 2003, 7:00pm, in the Paraparaumu Library Meeting Room. If you can't make the meeting, but would like to make any comments, please contact either ¨ Peter Knight Kapiti Coast District Council (04) 904 5780 [email protected] ¨ Jenny McAvinue Opus International Consultants (04) 471 7940 [email protected] A copy of the report on the Ecological Investigations is included with this letter, and the report on the IFIM survey will available at the meeting. Yours sincerely Peter Knight Infrastructure Development Manager
  23. if it were all I would be destroying the lot and disinfecting the tanks with some seriously strong hydrogen peroxide. However this is one female and one only out of maybe..........200 fish. It appears to be spinal damage and overall her health is fine, I do not suspect TB at all. TB is relatively easy to spot. My tank hygiene is good and I have a protocol which is easy to follow.
  24. I was curious to see where they would go in genetically passing it on. Either way I regard the famle and offspring as fresh food as well.
  25. I have one female with severe curvature. of the spine I suspect its a case of damage at the fry stage as opposed to in bred traits. I do have her separated and have mated her across an imported male. The fry appear to be in good order and growing well. Any thoughts on this?
