  1. Awesome sounds like your going to have a heap of comps soon if you've got that many girls
  2. Yeah he looks good is that the "lemon jake"?
  3. Is this the one in welly? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/what-i ... 30369.html
  4. Man he looks cool lol looks like he has alot of girls in there to keep him under control
  5. FX5 You will probably find one 2400 lacking on that tank I ran a 404 and a 900LPH aqua one on my 5 x 2 x 2 probably around what a single 2400 would turn over and it worked but not very well got an FX5 and its wicked.. Bearing in mind mine is full and yours will be relatively empty you could start with a single 2400 and add another down the track if needed even with the smaller filters I could get away with water changes every 2 weeks it was just alot of cleaning of filters (every 2 weeks as opposed to 2 months for FX5). And they didn't pick up as much crap as the FX5 either.
  6. Man thats looking good lots of big tanks and fish That aurora looks wicked did you have any babies from them?
  7. Probably just been fed alot Have you fed him recently? If the fish is still swimming around eating and happy don't worry... If the fish starts to gasp and not swim well and go off its food its bloat.. However I doubt you have given a peacock bloat they're generally pretty good
  8. There is someone in Palmy selling them on an online auction site..

    A few pics

That is a maleri red that came in on the list maybe 2-3 years back I brought 6 babies off a guy and grew them out ended up with 5m 1f that one came out redder than the rest so I kept him lost the female but have found one so hoping to get them breeding Ruben's reds are line bred maleri reds so hoping this guy will produce nice red babies only time will tell http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/red_peacocks.php
  10. I wouldn't doubt that the yellows around here are crap esp the ones at wetpets most of them come from their display tank.. I breed some that are good but haven't seen any good ones in the shops 4M 3F is good for yellows they don't really mind too much they are generally pretty laid back you maybe able to keep the 7 of them if they all get along, and I wouldn't sex them by fin colour alone either vent them or wait for them to hold as I have seen females with more black on the their fins than males holding!
  11. You were saying you wanted to give them a go when you were out here I will have dem's soon have just done a tank shuffle around however if your yellows are big they will eat them, might have some peacocks avaliable soon too.. If your out this way and want to have a look then let me know things are slowly getting setup and fish are slowly starting to breed here. I would add a little something to keep the ph up just because they will be happier that way but you dont absolutly need too. Are you not sure if your fish are actually yellow's? Are they descent colours and true with all the info you've seen on the net?
  12. Yeah who knows what those fish are I stayed away from them all the melo's can cross breed so easily and if they weren't imported with a descent name they're probably hybrids. From what ive read (and seen) they can be fairly nasty someone I knew brought like 6 of them and ended up with 1 but glenn has had these ones for a while and bred them so maybe they're laid back? If they were nasty then you would have noticed something by now
  13. Alot of fish will get on with yellows the main consideration for you will be fish that will get on with yellows and not outgrow and dominate a 165L tank which is small for african's.. I would recommend Demasoni and one strain of peacock. The demasoni stay small and only scrap amongst themselves and if you keep only one strain of peacock then all the males wont scrap IMO you don't have a big enough tank to try and do all males or more aggressive melo's or zebra's.. Its OTY though when giving out advice I tend to be cautious others may work but if they're not likely to I wont recommend it. If your the same dwalk from Levin that brought bristlenoses off me then you've seen all my africans
  14. Awesome thats one fish thats near the top of my list to get They look good hopefully they achieve what you want and bring the others out, looks like an upgrade is on the cards for the future
  15. It was on tv1 the other night and they did the one on Timor I didn't bother to watch it but the guys who have been there peace keeping say it is very hyped up..
  16. Tank would probably be fine on poly with an even overlap on each end, however to be safe I would get some plywood the size of the bottom of the tank and stick that on it will be fine.
  17. Nice looking fish Do you have many comps? They would be wicked to get and I think alot of the lot that were imported must be nearing maturity soon so heres hoping some babies come out! Fronts look good too how big are they?

    How do i join

Your school should register you with the NZQA
  19. If you could get them down here id take them

    fish sick

I would do water changes and lots of them maybe 50% daily or 25% twice daily if you have the time.. One thing you may not realise some test kits expire? How old is yours?
  21. lol as long as your happy with the result its all good You may run into problems with stocking as you start putting more males in but that depends on the fish and the lack of females means they should be ok, hopefully the dominant one doesn't just smash everything else.. Thats the reason I recommended a trio of one type I have had huge issues keeping more than 1 peacock male in a 4ft tank even in my 540L tank only 2 will colour up and come out from behind the rocks.. Also watch the johannii they can get quite big have a nasty rep and can throw their weight around mine certainly dominate much bigger fish in my tank but your tank is 200L so should be big enough to get away with it, just keep an eye on it.
  22. Awesome glad you got some fish that you like didn't think you would wait for the demasoni as long as your happy with what you've got its all good..
  23. Yeah was going to suggest that you might want to take out some pairs just in case all your others disappear overnight
  24. Last time I talked to Gavin he said his big male front had eaten the male from his breeding pair of jullies I have also seen a pic (cant find the thread) on cichlid forum of half an adult male electric yellow eaten by an adult front.. Apparently the front's wake up and start feeding alot earier than more fish they wouldn't have a show of catching them awake but if they find anything that will fit in their mouths it gets eaten, just what ive read and heard as you know everything is case by case with fish
  25. The fronts will eventually grow big enough to eat the jullies and lelupi but it will take ages, I would suspect the lelupi may give them a hard time when I had them they were nasty, however it will be an 8ft tank so I doubt they would cause any serious problems Clowns should be sweet as long as they grow fast enough to not become front food in the future but I am assuming your going to review the tank stocking as the fish grow etc as that is what always happens
