    new fish ?

lol the worst thing is if any survive and you start taking rocks out they get eaten... I regularly have to take the rocks out of my big tank to get all the babies eaten

    new fish ?

My best brood was 21 worst brood was 9.. Depends on the size of the female.. That sucks im sure they are hiding, even in my colony I loose some until I take all the rocks out and find the ones that are chilling out at the back of the tank.. And dem babies are crafy little buggers
  7. Yep still feed the parents You don't want them getting hungry.. Good luck I hope they raise them for you, every time ive tried to leave them they did what Ron said and got really angry with each other and the eggs got eaten
  8. Yeah I think they are getting close they've been quite aggressive towards the other fish but they're in a busy as grow out tank they could have laid already and the others would have overwealmed them and eaten them.. Will get them in their own tank and some stage and see what they do
  9. I think they could be close but I think ive got to get them out of the mixed tank to give them a chance to breed
  10. It was on the right when your coming from bulls just past the old school/pub just at the beginning of town.. Signs were on the fence not on the roadside so could easily be missed..
  11. I don't know if its anything special im sure you guys will know who it is and what they have but saw a sign on the side of the road saying the reptile breeding place is open today (obviously closed now) and tomorrow..
  12. I would remove all other fish but them, and also aim to raise a spawn asap not muck around trying different things I lost about 6 spawns trying different things and letting the parents have a go and then lost the parents wish I had a spawn as back up as they're hard to find.. Greenwater/infusoria is a great first food then onto microworms/brineshrimp and then finly crushed flake.

    new fish ?

Awesome great to here it doch Are you sure it was the dem's have you seen them holding? The peacocks or yellows could also have been at it
  14. Yeah for sure my pair of malieri are breeding in a 3ft tank could probably be in a smaller tank if I wanted.. Pulchers are also in a 3ft mixed tank..
  15. What were the other symptoms? All of my blue rams and my golds (bar one) faded away they either had little lumps or holes in their head and started to breath heavily, sometimes they looked ok but just got gradually worse, water was fine etc, just seems to be one of those things with rams

    hey ya

Hang on the back filters and internals work well I use them in alot of my smaller tanks, but externals are the best As long as you have a filter and keep up with maintenace you should be fine Lush I have sent you a PM if you look up the top you will see you have a new message

    hey ya

That tank should be fine for them I wouldn't stick them in anything smaller than that.. I have heard of people sticking them in 2ft's apparently so that they don't have enough room to get aggressive but not too keen on that idea.. And you need to get at least 12 more if avaliable and you can afford it..

    hey ya

Dem's aren't that hard to find Let me know if you want some.. That link is helpful but also frustrating as we don't have many of those fish in NZ And it also gives you no info at all on them!

    hey ya

Welcome you won't go wrong with the africans Make sure you do your research and ask questions before you stock your tank as some fish don't live together well and may not be suited to the size tank you want Feel free to post in the cichlid section or browse it to get some ideas..
  20. A breeding colony as well I didn't think that any of the babies had grown enough to breed yet..
  21. No its true to a point A common plan for aggressive fish to to overcroud them give them many targets and then no one fish gets smashed until it dies.. Very common with mbuna (dem's 12 min) and can be good for haps etc.. You have to bear in mind if your overstocking you need good filtration very good maintenance and if your overcrouding many different species they will probably interbreed or not breed or hold well at all due to all the action and aggression..

    Blue Acara

Fish shops buy their fish off wholesalers.. The list that is out is what fish they stock.. Ask your local shop if they can get them in, or alternatively ask to just see the lists and see whats avaliable (many shops won't let you do this because they think its a secret how much their mark up is). Be aware there are several wholesalers and therefore several "lists" and some shops don't like to deal with certain wholesalers or do so infrequently..
  23. It sucks when that happens I put it down to a random death, maybe the fish ate a stone, got a random infection or something? Or one of its organs just gave out.. I guess all animals can just die for no apparent reason Short of being a fish guru and disecting them to see what happened you probably won't know..
  24. We used to get them in a lake in Auckland and feed them to the african's im pretty sure it was freshwater as it was pretty far inland.. I haven't seen (I haven't actively looked either) any around here though
