  1. I tried kribs they were fine when I left to go overseas 4 months when I got back there were no kribs.. You might go alright with dems and yellows though they are pretty small and only really aggressive to their own type I had all sorts of fish in the tank I stuck them in..
  2. Yeah well aware you have johannes stock and they're nice fish I was just saying that marto hasn't stated where he got his fish from, I asked if they were from Johannes? But there are at least 3 different strains of fryeri I know of around nz and probably more imported all the time it is possible he got one of these and without knowing it would be hard to match up a male for him.. No trouble intended I know that there will always be disagreements esp with africans and what people think is the right or wrong way to do things..
  3. Maybe put up a post on here and try and find a male gba and female normal.. I probably have a spare female common kicking around somewhere if your friend wanted..
  4. A super blue electric with white blaze? lol Depends what the seller decides to sell them as Sounds like marto has already and found fish from the same line to replace his male.. As this is important to a responsible breeder if any spawnings are going to be kept.
  5. Oic probably very possible that it is related to cycling with a tank that small however I know people do use guppies to cycle tanks.. Here is some light reading for you http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/where- ... t6979.html
  6. Also how big was the tank and have you done any water tests? I think that regardless of cycling etc unless your tank is tiny 24hrs is too short for 3 guppies to cause enough waste to die? Maybe give the place you brought them from a call or go in and see if all their guppies are dying I know our local shops are having troubles keeping guppies alive..

    Help!!!!

You need to get a filter preferably one that is cycled going asap.. Before replacing your old filter try and figure out why it stopped it might bed easy to start again.. What type of filter is it? Apart from that do lots of water changes and your tank should clear.
  8. Both are just standard externals spraybars etc.. No flow adjustments I am not a fan of ones that are adjustable I don't think it would be too good for the filter.. It is very easy to point spraybar into edge of tank or back corner or difuse flow with rocks etc..
  9. Could go for Cf1200 or jebo 819 for that price and they're both good filters pumping around 1200LPH (overkill for your tank but you might as well buy the biggest you can who is to say you wont ever need it for a bigger tank..).
  10. Yeah you can use the airline hose or garden hose around the edges to roughly seal it.. If you do this and leave a gap with gravel underneith you can run a canaster filter through the tank and filter/heat the whole thing, you need to have that water flow through the tank to heat them all. I have done it don't have any pics though sorry. Problems I have with it is the fish can still find little gaps especially little babies. It is also hard to get the dividers to stay up (I have used rocks and suction cups etc) especially with the water flowing through them all. Other option is to seal the dividers in which I have done to an old tank and cut the corners off the dividers with fly screen over the holes.. It basically ruins a tank for display purposes but it is 100% and the fish cant get through the dividers, well the african fry that I keep cant anyway.
  11. Sorry to hear about your fish passing... Glad to hear you have others from the same line and a holding female to pass on his legacy.. Are they from Johannes? Loving the pics too red shoulder looks good does he have any girlfriends?
  12. They should be fine with sand there natural habitat is more sand than gravel... The only problem I can see with him and silica sand is with his size he will stir alot of it up and it will fill up your filters. He might not be used to it?
  13. Be careful of fish shop advice its been a while since I was in Auckland and there was only 1 or 2 people who knew much about fish in a few of the shops.. The others will try and sell you melafix or meth blue for anything which wont do anything. Rock salt is fine to use its what I use and at $1 a bag its cheaper than tonic salt..
  14. Cool good work Congrats and good luck with the babies..
  15. Bugger Sorry to hear about that! Give her time though im sure she will come right.. Sorry Tracy here are the photos that you emailed me.. Nice looking fish
  16. Yeah second the water changes.. You mentioned you had a second tank? Maybe you could take some of the established media out of the second tanks filter and add it to your new tank to kick start a bit more of the cycle and ease the load? Obviously don't fully gut that filter because you will just transfer the problem but taking a little wont hurt..
  17. Man that sucks Steve I am sorry for your losses hopefully you have some joy from Hollywoods I am unsure what legally they have to do there are all sorts of consumer guarantees clauses that may work out for you..
  18. Awesome good news Congrats and good luck raising them.. My email is on my profile under the "email" tab feel free to send me some pics and ill post them for you..
  19. Cool, I don't think the other pair would take up care of the eggs but stranger things have happened With your pair in the breeding tank remember that it is the female who takes care of the eggs/babies and the male can even eat the babies when they're free swimming so remove him after they have laid. And another thing do you have any photos of your fish
  20. Bright orange almost the same colour as a terracotta pot Sure fire way of telling if they have bred is your female hiding somewhere and being bright yellow and probably quite skinny..
  21. I would leave them on the driftwood and leave the mum with them.. Maybe move all the other fish, if its getting too difficult don't stress they will breed again There is not much point in trying to scrape them off or anything I can't see that working out too well, I move the eggs and pot into a new tank along with the female and she continues to look after them but if you disturb things too much like move the eggs she might just eat them.
  22. I would put the eggs in with the female that laid them and hope she is a good enough mother to raise them.. I move my females and eggs when they lay and they keep looking after them. Even if she isn't that flash its all experience and im sure one of your 2 pairs will spawn again..
  23. Have heard of people breeding silver dollars well having them spawn in mixed tanks.. They or other tank mates will eat most of the eggs though. Just FYI silver dollars aren't cichlids

    Tropheus

Awesome good news on the new arrivals.. Stink on the dubs have heard that tropheus do that to you At least they are more commonly avaliable than the others you have..
  25. I don't think your plants will be turning the water green? Unless they're rotting and causing problems.. Usually plants use the nutrients in the water so the water doesn't go green? Have you measured your phosphate levels?
