  1. Thought as much... in a way this was a test to see which of our local stores was the more responsive. Not naming names, but it was interesting which store got back to me the next day (the chain store), and which one never even got back to me. Indeed it seems the case with T8, but unfortunately no one is yet making reptile bulbs in the T5 form, we seem to be the poor cousins. At this point, we needed to sort something or we'd be risking our beardy's health as the new terrrarium has arrived, so we've gone with compacts for now.
  2. Looking at the instructions..http://www.reptileone.com.au/instructions/Tropical%20Cloud/Tropical%20Cloud%20Reptile%20instruction.pdf It seems that it needs to be in a reservoir 47-61mm deep, and has a sensor to cut out if the water level drops too low. Also it estimate 3000 hours work before needing some type of "parts replacement".
  3. LOL..... no. We only got these last weekend from Sunrise, and they are most definitely not on the menu. Though you do have to wonder, can a bearded dragon fish? (imagines image of dragon with fishing rod and fishing hat). It was just that Izzy was so directed to get over there (max 30 seconds from stepping out of cage to being at the base of the other tank stand).
  4. Just throw them in the terrarium, then you get to have the last laugh....
  5. Good idea for a thread, and as per my comment in ID's other thread, I'm planning to redo my terrarium for some new frogs. So definitely interested to see what people recommend, and then try them out.
  6. Interesting, will bear that in mind for the assembly....
  7. Kay, what substrate did you find works best, I tried topsoil (due to being advised potting mix is bad for frogs)?
  8. Yeah, gas bottle + fire = bad outcome.... Good to hear it all turned out okay in the end though...
  9. Yeah, that's what we got it for originally (we had some for a few years). just always found plants wouldn't last for me, I think a case of picking the wrong ones. Joking aside, had decided to get some whistlers again, so will spend next month or two getting the terrarium running nicely first, so open to suggestions for plants.
  10. Izzy is.... just had us both killing ourselves laughing, as we at first joked that was what he is was up to, but then realising it really was, just was the final straw and put us over the edge.
  11. Am getting sudden strong urge to set up the terrarium for frogs again (30x30x45 exo terra one).. Just never seemed to have much luck with plants...
  12. Chuckle.... "Guys, lets get this fire........... ooohhhhhh turtles"
  13. About 3-4 days ago we carried Izzy (our beardie) over and showed him the guppies in the tank on the other side of the room (through the glass), which he tried to bite at, but then seemed to settle and just watch them. Just thinking it was kinda funny we thought nothing of it - until today. Anyway, this morning I was sitting on the couch, beside his terrarium, and he came rushing up to the front after basking for a bit... and started frantically pawing at the glass. So I opened it up, wondering what this is about. He came straight out, stopped on my leg for a few seconds, then kept running along the length of the couch, before jumping off and heading to the base of the other tank's stand. Once he got there, he started trying to jump up and climb up to the tank (without much luck), so I went to pick him up. Once I barely had him off the ground, he jumped for the tank ledge (grabbing on) and sat and started watching the guppies. I used my hand and supported him, while he sat there watching them, until I went to take him back to his terrarium (though he seems to now be very annoyed at me). Oddest thing ever... :-? :-? (PS Maybe I should get him a betta in small tank (with a lid) for his terrarium??)
  14. Still no response from 2nd pet store.... Electrical supplier I tried, also never got back to me....     Talking to another electrical supplier, and apparently the regular manufacturers of battens, are all moving away from 3ft fittings... Is arranging for a 30w electronic ballast from the Wellington store, though not sure where I'd mount the ballast. Should have gone with two 2 foot tubes, or compact fluoro bulbs me thinks..... And the new terrarium has arrived, so I need to get this sorted. :bounce: :bounce:
  15. I think quick comets can pull it off, but I have a feeling a koura would just become a snack for the turtles....
  16. Just glad we got 90% of everything we needed for our beardies new terrarium during a recent sale... all that's left is a light fitting, and that I can get from the local hardware store.
  17. Mutter... Got to wait until next month's salary to what impact the income tax change will make.
  18. Most likely the sliders will kill and eat everything... This reminds me of this... http://www.fishpondinfo.com/turtles/turtle3.htm
  19. Agreed... I only tried bathing for the first time last shed, because he was becoming obviously distressed at certain patches of skin that wouldn't come off. Isn't usually a little smudge, I swear Izzy rolls in it....
  20. Mine gets a bath usually for one of three reasons 1. When shedding (really seems to help) 2. Seems a little constipated 3. Has got themselves filthy.... (the most common reason) Don't think I've seen izzy drink water tbh.
  21. Meanie... OP: Actually, you just want to do the best for your pet, so good for you. Looks like your dragon is enjoying the bath; I find I have to keep an eye on my beardie during baths, as Izzy falls asleep mid "spa"....
  22. Where is the head smashing wall smilie when you need it... Tbh, it it wasn't for the fact I'm in the progress of still getting our dragon sorted into a new home, I'd be sorely tempted to get the turtle.
  23. Agreed.... To be honest it's usually the parents that are 60% of the problem..
  24. Thing is, a lot of people are happy with their ignorance, and unfortunately I find common sense is not all that common...... Lost count of the number of numbskulls I've had to correct over the years, and point in the direction of this really rare and unusual tool called "google", to correct some scary held beliefs about pet care. In fact, I don't think I've ever actually convinced someone to get turtles...
  25.    Know that feeling, I find the easiest solution in that case, is wait to they try to run past, and you know just somehow my foot was extended at the time.... Whoops, face meet floor....
