  1. The only thing i have heard which makes sense (if i remember rightly) is that males supposedly have an undershot jaw. Im sure it had somethin to do with males picking up and holding the eggs....maybe? haha
  2. Hey guys, just thought I would chuck in my 2 cents In my opinion they are two different species and have two different L numbers so I personally would not try and breed from them as a pair Also I dont want to sound negative but I dont believe they would have bred before as they look way too small and will still take a couple or more good years of growing before they are anywhere near sexable/breedable. Theres a few around though so it shouldnt be too hard to find others to add to your collection for a crack at making a pair for a chance at breeding somewhere down the line Nice fish and well done with the photos as well

    L102 - Snowball plec

Kinda sad coz i think the hypans are some of the best plecs available because they dont get too big and you atleast have a fair shot if you try to breed them compared to many other fancy plecs I'm not too keen on the whole breeding back thing coz the plecs produced would never be pure and i dont see the point just to keep the 'species' available in New Zealand (this is probably a whole new thread on its own). Seeming as it has been this long I might aswell keep waiting

    L102 - Snowball plec

Thanks for posting that dixon If i could find a male, even if it takes a while, it would save a whole lot of trouble with the breeding back option but i guess i will just have to see what happens. L066 ya reckon firenzenz, the F1's could look very strange/cool haha

    L102 - Snowball plec

Yeah i have had this fish for about 3 or 4 years now and only heard of one other, which sucks If someone could post a pic up for me i have a few photos i could email them, thanks very much guys
  9. OK I know i have tried this before but i guess it is worth trying again, I have a large female L102 and would really like to know if anyone knows of a male as i would really like to see this fish paired up. I know there are not many in the country and it would be a shame to lose such a nice hypan especially with the availability of plecs in general in NZ Any help would be appreciated, cheers
  10. Well done mate, showing off a bit now though dont ya rekkon

    ROYAL PANAQUE

Yeah have bin doin more regular water changes and hes still there sittin in the corner and he doesnt look like he is gettin much worse....i hope. Although his poo has gone like a jellish green which i dont like the look of. Cheers evil_elmo, his belly isnt sunken though. Its not just the wood they need, they are just massive eaters in general so if they dont get enough of either then their bellys will 'sink'. Glad he's all good now mate

    ROYAL PANAQUE

OK the tips of his body spines have started to go whitish and it looks as if it's teeth have fallen out, still breathing heavily aswell so i have done a couple of big water changes in the last few days and cranked up the water flow.....anyone have any ideas on this? especially the missing teeth part

    ROYAL PANAQUE

He is breathing heavily now but water turnover isnt too bad and there is an air pump running on it too. might chuck another one on just to be sure though. Yeah still using rain water which hes been sweet in for 3 years now so im stumped. Hes the biggest and most agro fish in the tank...till he started sulking...so always got plenty of food. Theres 4 discus, a bichir, fire eel and my L102 in the same tank...theyr all sweet. Stuff like this is soo frustrating Yeah i still have the L47 no idea what sex it would be though. Someone else may be keen on it but if your interested in it too then ill get onto them to make a decision Thanks guys

    ROYAL PANAQUE

Yeah sorry i meant the discs are the pleco chips. There is quite a bit of wood in the tank so it should get more than its fair share. I'm stumped....hopefully it will perk up rather than just die. Thanks for the thoughts mate
