  1. Have you worked out the lifespan of this yet inter... I just got some mw's and keen to try and find the best way to have a regular easy to harvest supply.
  2. Hi Zedd - Welcome to the site My cat has just readjusted his lifestyle - he's still numero uno - in his eyes. I too watch hardly any TV anymore - but yay for the warriors - go u good things. Glad you came on board to share with us.
  3. Save yourself some sweat madcookie - I've got just the sump you need. Its professionally built and is strong as. And leak proof http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auct ... d=31886494 I have to come up that way this week so let me know. What I really want to know is how to drill / cut round holes in glass. Without any swearing
  4. Looks very tall like you said - You can get the long handled algae scrapers to keep the glass keen - Or some suckermouths. I reckon if you can afford it get an external canister filter with an inbuilt heater - I think eheim have this option- Theres two less things that need to be in the tank - Also it be grouse if there was a hole drilled near the bottom of the tank at the back to take the intake for the filter. You'll need silicone and proper threaded fittings inside and outside the tank. Then you could have the return bar on the top and the intake at the bottom without any hoses to be seen inside the tank. Do you have a hood and Cabinet? Maybe consider discus, or some other type of large round fish. Maybe cause its so deep forget about plants and use bogwood and rocks. Might not need any lighting then - can go towards your thermo canister filter.

    ummmm???

    LETS BUY IT
  6. Hi Chakuna - those silver Bala sharks are fun to watch - Have you just got one shark? I used to have three of them but they would hassle the cichlids when they had their fry. The cichlids could keep them away but I'm sure the sharks enjoyed quite a few tasty fry before I sold them. How big is you tank?
  7. Maybe it was a bully chasing them in there - I don't think they're dumb - just think if you never ever left your house - Wouldn't you want to investigate all the littlest nooks and crannies you could find. The worst one I had is I was using a internal power filter without it's little pipe thingamabob that sticks out of the outlet. More flow that way - small hole about 10mm diameter. I lost a flying fox one day - looked like it had it's head chewed. Blamed the kribs. A few days later I heard this massive clunk come from the tank and saw a 4cm krib that had been killed when it stuck its head in the hole to check out the haps and got wasted by the impellor. Bugger wont make that mistake again.
  8. Great advice suphew. Try some of these "tank tongs" thingees. They work a treat. http://www.hippo.co.nz/001888,0,0.mel
  9. Yeah well good luck with that - before too long it'll start busting out of there and you'll have truckloads of it on the surface. Thats if its anything like mine - i'm sure each piece of mine wears it own life jacket - But its about ten million times more attractive than duckweed so hey - i no complain - Sells well on TM to
  10. Hey whats the green squareish thing beside in front of the log in pic1? Is it riccia?
  11. Tank looks great - GF's definitely a keeper misnoma. May I suggest hiding it with some java moss. If you can put up with it while it takes.
  12. How are the Convicts doing Vicki?
  13. Good luck getting that riccia to perform as a carpet you might have to take it out of its lifejacket
  14. Beautiful fish. Wow 10.5 feet - How are those sheep? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=2172
  15. Gazza God that makes me green with envy. Is that your private fishroom? Wow you could waste years in there.
  16. Maybe its just a bit to cramped in your tank for them. Is it quite a deep tank - 50cm + ? I'd take the angels and put em elsewhere - that'll save your tetras in the long run too. just MHO though good luck
  17. Yeah well thanks but the truth is I wouldn't be here accepting this award tonight without the help of.... Seriously though the credit goes to THUNDERSTORM Its his tank not mine. I agree though - that piece of wood is outstanding
  18. I went to Hollywood when I was in Auckland the other day and they don't stock blackwater extract anymore - They tried to sell me a plant fertiliser that is similar instead.
  19. The stick on jobs aren't really very accurate - They vary depending on the temperature of the room - And yeah they wear out if in the sun.
  20. I have recently bought a big tin of bbs and now I'm really committed to working out how to do it that suits me. It is a real pain but with trial and error I'll get there. The easiest way I have at the moment is with a san fransisco bs hatchery - not a coke bottle type but a black plastic cube with a clear freash water vial on top. It is great except the eggs aren't under airation - and I guess its other problem is that the shrimps come up into freshwater where they last up to around five hours. However I'm getting tired of sucking in saltwater  when i have to syphon them out of a coke bottle type apparatus. One like on the wall in EJ's room looks like the go - might be this weekends project. Then you can just drain the shells off the bottom and your straight into shrimp leaving the eggs on top. And you can't beat the hanky - paper towels and tissues just suck.
  21. Awwwww the poor wee thing. If it was a cow I'd say stab it with a bloat knife but.... You guys probly allready have discussed this and I missed it - So since I enjoy plecos I looked it up (incase i need to make a preemptive strike) and its caused by too much protein in the diet is that right? Or not enuff wood? Do they come right? Do they release bubbles?

    Hi from Welly

Hi and Welcome Shannon - Its great here - we've all got the same bug.
  23. Seen some floating thermostats that are wired (eventually) to the heaters at our club meeting this month - thats what i need - but I'm no sparky so i wimped out - I'm gonna have to find out how to do it - should be easy only two wires i think - these had a light socket fitting as well which really threw me. I reckon your right alan thats the way to go - then I can have 2 heaters that come on simultaneously. Plus an alarm job as well to be extra safe.
  24. Result - maybe dinner? I've heard that raising the temp is a cure for ich. Who knows - how long have you had the heater for? (is it a glass submersible auto type?) I'll be keeping an eye on mine - Was considering setting up some type of an alarm for the temperature as it really could go unnoticed for some time. Havn't really got a clue yet about how i would do it tho

    Eheim filters

 I'd like to know where you got that info from pies. I suppose the local glazier used to make the tanks just right for their UGF. Then it was off down to the local bikeshop to get a connection for the dynamo powered air pump. If leeches and maggots were the only thing that would fix me up - Id say bring em on
