    My MCE600

If I open the valve all the way it will overflow the cup,or am I supposed to let it overflow until it builds it slime coat.

    My MCE600

This is the first time I have used a protein skimmer so I thought I would document it and hopefully have others who have used the MCE600 tell me what I am doing wrong and hopefully point me in the right direction. Day 1: Set up skimmer as per the very brief instructions and pretty poor diagrams. It said something about set the air valve at 2 oclock not really sure how that applies to the air valve but have set it to what I think is 2 o'clock. Am seeing a alot of bubbles in the tank and the skimmer, more than I was expecting in both. Tried to throttle the air back but decided to leave it to see if it is just a initial run in period. 4 hours later checked tank even more bubbles now wondering if the degassing plate does anything, remove it and put spong in place hoping it will stop or minimise the bubbles. Play with the air intake again to make it quiet and cup overflows now wondering what the overflow pipe on the cup is for if it doesn't overflow the cup, looked closer at the cup and it was bubbles not water that overflowed the cup. Checked deltecs website they mentioned it will be new salt syndrome where the conditioning agents don't let the bubbles pop, now wondering if ASW is a good way to go, They do state that it will go away and that all clients that have complained about this have never come back saying it did not go away, they suggest either live with it or turn the skimmer of for a couple of weeks, well I am not going to turn it off and I am not going to go a couple of weeks without a water change either, now wondering why I decided to use a skimmer, decide to perserve. Day 2: Checked skimmer after work and discovered that the setting it was originally on is now not enough, slightly happy as maybe this means it is settling in, change setting to allow more air, still wondering what the 2 o'clock setting is. Let enough air in to make the bubbles rise half way in the cup. Decide I am not happy with the amount of bubbles in the tank as I suspect that they are going to eventually cause salt creep on my brand new lights swap sponge with a elbow joint and direct bubbles at the wall, resonably please with self, give pat on the back. Come back later cup is overflowing with bubbles again, check reef central deltec thread and the american importer for deltec recommends putting vasoline around the air hole to make the bubbles pop, now wondering why they don't just make it better or at least supply vasoline and call it a bubble degassing cream, decided not to do this as I do not know what will happen if some should get into the aquarium. Day 3: Check tank still alot of bubbles but not as much check skimmer obviously needs adjusting will do tonight.

Not to throw fuel on the fire but don't forget science isn't always right. Things get disproved later down the track all the time.

The only picture I could find of a mottled moray was a drawing on fishbase are your morays Chlopsis dentatus or G. undulatus. They still look pretty interesting though. If your interested: http://www.uga.edu/cuda/thatsamoray.html

    Eels

They do get pretty big, however obviously different species differ in size. There is no way I would have one in my tank but was curious as to why they aren't available in the hobby, whereas in Australia and America it is uncommon for fowlr owners like myself to not have one.

I have heard many divers talk about morays when they dive around new zealand, Just wondering why they aren't available in the aquarium trade.

    SCARLET

However I must add this comment, Australians at large are in no way shape or form associated with that idiot, Research into his username found that his relatives were not that bright and actually paid to be on the original convict ships thinking they could start a new life in Austria.

    Coralline Algae

Well the coralline algae seems to be growing very well I have some nice patches of purple through the tank. The funny thing is my phosphates are currently at 0.5 which I was under the impression was high. I am still only dosing salifert all in one and coralline aminoacids.
  17. I love the sucker the buyer in buy dropping nemos name.
  18. Hello All, Found these websites over the last week. 1: This website offers podcasts supposedly weekly on all things marine it is hosted by Melev and Quiksilver http://www.reefcast.com 2: I frequent Melev's site but had not found this page until last night. It offers approx 198 pictures to help identify some items in your tank. http://melevsreef.com/id/

    Need some advice

I do have puffers and you are quite correct I would not purchase that fish for my tank but I am always interested in how much the fish go for on trademe. I am sure that my puffers would love the snack but I would not like buying them an $80 meal.
  20. Brianemone has offered me his rare clownfish via trademe for the price of $500,000.95. Is this a bargain and as some users have so perfectly put it will it go well with my goldfish . Very funny auction Brian. I hope you find someone who actually knows how to look after it.

    Polleni Grouper

If anyone hears of a midnight dogface puffer (black one) for sale here please let me know.
  22. How would you test for such a thing though. It is fine to do a paper on it but to make a test for the common joe would be impossible or would it. Do the experts ie reef, lduncan etc care to comment

    Polleni Grouper

Sorry 205 not 265, it was very nice my favourite fish at that point but It got very sick and passed away some time last year. I did feel it was pricey, it was from hollywoods and as I do not know of any other people that have marine puffers I have to pay the price for the product
