  1. Hey, never thought of Nemo's and Clown Loaches in the same tank.....there colours would complement each other nicely. For a wee while at least.... .
  2. Hi Richelle, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are already doing pretty well - many people are still aspiring to one day managing a tank like that! But your right - lots of people in here with lots of great tips and helpfull advice.
  3. Are these ones set accounted for already too? Would be keen to swap/buy if possible....Have seen the tank theyre from so know theyre having a good start! Would you be interested in selling the parents? heheh, have to try yip?
  4. Hmmm, dont be too interested in buying 'any' sized tank, and thinking you wont want to upgrade to a bigger one later on. Its like a salary - no matter how big it is, theres always a yearning for more. Other forums have suggested minimum of 90 x 45 x 38, or about 150 ltrs, for a 'newbie'. But they have all commented that if you double this water volume you will have more chance of success - without too much maintenanace/work. I dont yet have a Marine setup - so am also interested in the 'experts' recommendations here.....
  5. Hey Misnoma, what did ya do with all the bn's? You had about a hundred didnt you???
  6. Ouch...Four of us have over 25 tanks!!??? I have trouble as it is with 9 tanks, how can you keep up with 25 or more !!????
  7. Very very interesting thread Michael....Afraid to say that I am using your system as a bit of a guinea pig. I had been thinking about three L A R G E containers for sump/fuge/mixing-tank and one medium (1100 ltr) display tank...fairly similar to your proposal. Am amazed that people consider having more water to be less safe. Like some others here, and like most serious reading on the topic suggests, the more water the more stable. Now about your handbrake, dont forget that handbrakes have been known to fail, and regular WOF checks keep them on their toes. 8) 8)
  8. Ahhh yes, the old "got $200 of stuff for $10 on trademe", or similar, experience. Have had a couple of these myself, wonderful aint they....Makes the joys of using nice equipment Even Nicer. Hummingbird, If you sell me the lot for $20, you would have made a 100 percent profit. One Hundred Percent, an amazing achievement. (Have i convinced ya yet?) 8)
  9. Yeah, fraid it sounds like gay fish, umm happy fish? Nope, Gay fish. Yip thats it. Buy some girlie swordtails and see if it turns into a Right Royal Circus. 8)
  10. Yeah I'd seen these too, back in the 90's. (Does that sound show-offy?) People were putting an airstone under them to encourage some sort of water flow - dunno if it worked or not. And make sure you use clear tubes - it pays to see whats in those tubes before they 'go off'.
  11. Hiya Bluetom, always been interested in AC500 - I know poeple from USA forums (Fishindex) who swear by them, but always put it down to them being particularly cheap in the ole US of A. How do you find it? I have an AC200 (now called AC50), which I have been fairly happy with. Media size is better than an internal filter, and with cotton wool polishes water well, but of course falls well short of a decent cannister. Have been considering an AC300 (Now called AC70) as the flow rate is nice and high, and the filter area is quite large. But, its well short of the AC500. Bottom line I guess, how can "I" get an AC500 for under NZ$100? Could you offer some tips?
  12. $250 is pushing it, more like $150 I reckon.... See Greg (tanks2u) has more tanks up for sale on trademe, these tanks are very well built. Millenium filters are a bit overrated, Not sure about 2000, but 3000 is okay, but RRP of $199 is a joke, Aquaclear 70 leaves it for dead and is $65 new. Yeah, $150 seems right in my little wee opinion.
  13. Yip, I have 56k modem, and yip it took a while. Not that I mind AT ALL - well worth waiting a shile for pics like that to load. My comment of using more web space however, was sincere. Your tanks look nice enough to take some seriously detailed photos, and chuck em on the web somewhere - am assuming there is not enough space in here or other normal 'free album' sites. Perhaps this website could be an advert of sorts and generate interest (and work)?. Am guessing I wont be asking you if you have any cheap 'bubbling oysters', 'no fishing signs', or sunken divers ceramic display thingies. I also like the 'natural' look, am still trying to improve my biotype ideas - kinda hard though when I have mostly community type tanks. Only tank I have with 'nonsense' things in it, is in my sons room. He has some sunken ships in it - but the fish actually enjoy the hiding spaces.....and it "is" my sons tank. Still, I cant help but think 'thats not right' everytime I see it. Oh well, enuff ramblings for today. Again, nice tanks dude!
  14. Klayy, I take my hat off to ya man, theyre some awesome displays. Have you thought about doing some 'professionalish' shots of them and using up more webspace?
  15. Not sure what temp they are at, but the latest Bunnings letter-box-filler is advertising 5 of these (20w equals 100w) CF's for $9.99. I remember when they first came out - around six years ago (???) and only Phillips were available, and they were $25 each. Damn being a new technology user can hurt sometimes....
  16. Pies, your talking about sunlight right? Direct or thru clouds? Your location says "WEllington", hence the Q. 8)
  17. Faaantaaaastic. Very nice looking setups. Ditto on the specs, would be appreciated.
  18. Hiya Mpontin, would be dead keen to take you up on that offer. If not interested in Guppies, I also have (too many) jewel cichlid fry if interested.... Looking forward to hearing from you some day over the next couple of months?
  19. Ahhh, thanks everyone. Seen as how I have 'legitimately' earned this star, and no one has been taking peeks, no photo is on its way, sorry Caryl. So, Maybe we should have 'super stars' or stars at a different colour, once 2,000, 3,000 et posts made. Or better yet, that idea of a tee shirt sounds awesome. The 'free fish tank' idea is just egging on my MTS addicition....
  20. Thanks klaymann, and sorry for misspelling your name earlier - and having a severe case of thick fingers today. 486's - hey thats not old. I remember a work mate paying six thousand dollars (circa 1993, or 92, this was BIG money) for a 386! Had a whopping 2mb of RAM tho. Cheers for the octopus ideas - am now trawling thru google etc trying to figure out how.where/what etc. One question tho, being as how I cannot stand swimming or especially diving, do we have these octopus in Ncoastal NZ waters? Are they catchable? Am confused by your mention of them clinging onto wetsuits, yet having 4ft long arms/legs???
  21. Fair call.....On the condition you tell me when you got the three stars at the beginning of your name. 8)
  22. Far out Kalyman, that sound totally amazing! Why have I never heard of keeping octopus before???? Do you have any photos, web-links, forum threads etc etc on them? Am very very keen on investigating. Even if only to get the "wow never seen that" reaction from some other fishy types.
  23. reef wrote: I think bare bottom sucks big time, dirt under your rocks is not a big deal as it get used by inverts. Hahaha, If your bare bottom sucks, you are doing it wrong! Whoops, can I post that here? Guess I will find out soon....
  24. Hey, I'm special, I've got a wee star next to my name!!! Am thinking this is because either: a. Someones seen me in the shower, and given me a grading, or b. I'm officially a lightweight, or c. I've made one hundred posts, of which no more than 97 were crazy posts wildly off topic. So, on the odd chance its option "C", when do I get a second star? Third star? Am hoping its not option "A" or "B", because when the audit rolls thru, they'll probably try to take my star back off me!!!
  25. Yeah, looks like we all have a similar opinion here...Borderline. Only questions is to what degree. I sure dont want to sabotage the auction on trademe, am hoping someone buys this and mods it up. Then again, imagine if someone forks out $100 (or whatever) for a "nice tank with a nemo for little Gurtrude" their 5 year old child. Thats probably even worse!! Thanks for the posts - nice to know others have similar views......maybe I'm not an oddball. (Or maybe your all as odd as I am, hahaha.)
