pineapples....Yip would LOVE some. Keen to swap for guppies?

Damn, why cant I remember to spell check before hitting the 'submit' button? Sorry for the ""shokcing splleing"" everyone.

Yeah, possibly not the best place to put that link in Chimera, however at the end of the day it "shouldnt" affect potential sales for petplanet. It's really the same with any potential purchase from overseas....You get what you pay for, and this normally doesnt include a warrantly, after sales support, consumers guarantees, etc etc etc. Thats why many people prefer to buy right here in NZ - longer term the 'savings' from purchasing on the internet from overseas turn into a 'hidden cost'. Am sure this has been debated/discussd many mnay mnay times, even within these forums?

Michael - great idea. Most people buying an RO plant are probably going to want it for more than just fish. Personally, the drinking water would be an added bonus. But, I suspect that for many others it will be the primary 'selling point' - especailly when getting bosses clearnace. Will you keep us posted - and would you give members here a 'first dip' on the units?

Michael, that "someone" should be you! hehehehe, convinced yet?

Nice pics!!! I can see them fine on the normal web page..... How big is the tank, and how big are the clown fish? (Nemo's!!!!!)

Hi everyone, am curious to what your opinions are on this. Found it on trademe - Have not asked any questions on the auction, as I dont want to sabotage it. Can this clown fish be "happy" in this tank? Should LFS sell 'setups' like this if they suspect (or know!) that the owner will put a clown fish in there? I want to try my hand at a salt setup one day, not yet, but one day. At the moment I just dont know enough, and am (more than) busy enough trying to keep up with my fresh water tanks....but the little I do know suggests this cannot be a happy fish. Right or wrong? Your thoughts please? http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auct ... d=35682264

Two blind cave fish?

Hiya Chicken, thats a big tank you've got there, nice one. U'G's are pretty debatable - but most people agree they will do a reasonable job "short term" so long as the substrate isnt too fine. Many people argue they are okay long term too. Maybe do a search on the forum for past discussions? Personally I cannot stand them. If you dont want a Cannister filter just yet, a good HOB (Hang on Back?) or HOT (Hanf on tank?) will do. Get the bigest you can with a decent flow rate. Aquaclear 200 (or now called Aquaclear 70??) would do nicely...has a large area for bio and mechanical filtration and a very good flow rate. Tehn again, using a UG short term and getting a 'good' Cannister later on is going to work well too. But long term, for that sized tank, 1x cannister, 1x HOB, and possibly (depending on fish type, planted or not, and fish 'load') an internal or powerhead too, would be my personal setup. Good luck!

One claustrophobic Guppy....Would be iinteresting to see if he handles the space or not.

Misnoma, theres no way I'd lend out 'Goldie' - hes not big enough yet (But he is getting biger!), but I have a Red Tiger Oscar that is huge..... Seriously, I'd not lend out a fish like this.....But also am not adverse to the idea of 'excess' fish arriving at my place for "oscar-compatability-testing".

Ive got an Oscar you can borrow if you want.....?

Yeah, and if the divider is too low, the fish will (easily) swap tanks... If you use a tap to restrict input, thats just another part of the line that can attract blockage. All it takes is one decent sized leaf (or fish, or 'gunk') to slightly block the intake, and an imbalance will occur. Again, intake in one tank, output in hte other, with a mesh-covered-hole in the partition is the best way to go, that I know of at least... Good luck!

okay, does someone want to set up a poll? Would be interesting seeing some stats...Perhaps something like. How many tanks do you have running at the moment? 1. 2. 3-4 5-7. 8-11 12-15 15-25 25+ Anyone clever with internet/message boards etc that can set this up?

Pretty risky business toughchicken - Am assuming you are planning on treating the two halves (of the three foot tank) as seperate systems. Theres a real chance one tank will overflow and one will drain out using that system. Beter bet is to have either a hole in the divider (covered with a mesh to stop fish/debris), or a small gap at the bottom and use larger sized substrate/gravel. Then simply have input on one end/tank and output at the other.

Ozone purifiers - sorry not a thing except some salt tanks have them. You arent meaning UV purifiers (sterilisers!) are you?

Hi Oscar, An external filter is made up of tow main bits. A pump, and filter media. A pump is a powerhead, and is used one way or other in (virtually) every type of filter system. In my opinion, for freshwater use, its always beneficial to have some sort of filter pad between the tank and the pump.....and power filters cost basically the same as powerheads. Not counting air-powered systems of course!

RO Water is the 'purest' water - but so pure it will not store well for very long...you might need to add chlorine? (never thought I'd mention that in these forums!) Also, WIll it be cost effective getting a pump to push the water thru an RO plant? Or....do you have a cliff on your farm, could maybe get away with a gravity feed system? Have been reading that the best RO plants, like the ones a ship can use to make drinking water out of (lightly-moderately) polluted sea water require 'significant' pressure to push the water thru the RO membrane...

If you really (REALLY) want to know what/how the issues are with turbulence in pipe work, here the link to end all debate. Please, dont take your PVC pipe off to a motor tuning expert for polishing. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... turejp.htm Oh and finally, If the three guys writing this article are incorrect, fine. Just dont go thinking you can convince me this is the case.....

Damn, wish I had the space, money, and understanding partner, to allow me one of those. Thats one of the most incredibly COOL salt setups I've seen. Wonder if he still does water changes using a bucket tho....?

Hahahaha, could you imagine FORD making fishtanks? They would rust within weeks, leak all over the carpet, and be sooo ugly. Still, their owners would continue thinking they made the logical choice..... 8)
-
Dunno if it flows like a gas - would have thought unless perfectly 'tuned' would still have turbulance at bends/corners tho.... One thing for sure tho, water flows best in pipes that are Spanish White in colour - no question about this one. I've even made some formulas that support this fact.

Hi Michael - If you do get these within the next two months - I can put my name down for a $270 one - could also make a deposit if you wanted, might help sway your decision to import...?....Maybe if a few others here offered to do this too???? I used to think a 'proper' RO plant was a 'huge' investment. This is now looking like the same dollars as a reasonable cannister filter. I'm in! Look forward to any thoughts you might have on this - can PM if preferred.
-
ROTFLMAO......So thats what the debate was about...? Personally, I reckon you are ALL wrong, the pink fairy told the green goblin, to tell me to tell you - 'The most important aspect of plumbing is maintenenace - you have to clean your hoses or they clog and effectively shrink in size'. Now talking about hose cleaning.... 8)

Michael, That 'tentaive pricing' is that what you can land them at, or what you might resale them at? I would be quite interested in one 'at some stage'. I thought they were a prerequisite for Discus, but have now learned they are not. Breeding possibly, but not growing and maintaining. One thing I have been reading, is the use of a prefilter (usually charcoal carbon / activated carbon?) will remove many heavy metals etc before the RO - membrane(?) stage - which greatly increases the life span of the RO membrane. Is the prefilter included with 4 stage or 6 stage? Sorry for all the questions....you wouldnt know a good website for RO Plants would you?
