Pleco Problem

Recommended Posts

i notice a couple of days ago that my pleco has, what looks like, a graze on his head.

any suggestions for treatment would be great. any ideas as to what may have caused this would also be appreciated, that way i can prevent it from happening again.

he is 13cm long.

the only changes to the tank recently are:

1, i put an airstone in the tank, but this is under the gravel.

2, i put 1 of my CAE back into the tank as there was a bit too much algae in there for my liking and the pleco wasn't controlling it by himself. the cae always moves away if rex is around.

Possibly caused by banging his head on something. Unless it is showing signs of a secondary infection (fungus) I would leave it and just keep an eye on it. I am not a fan of using medications unless as a last resort. If you tank conditions are good it should clear on its own.

Others may disagree though

Hey T,

It's funny you say this, my BN had a scrape that looks exactly the same as the scrape that your Pleco has, he was looking fine everything was healing up all by itself, then got up one morning to find him DEAD, hmmm not to sure what caused this, but may pay you to treat as I never, and possibly if I had he may still be here.:cry::cry:
