Feelers
Well, I managed to get this nice 62L hex tank for free from my friends parents who were about to throw it out. Just wondering if you guys could help me make it look a little tidier. It has been sanded and I want to know if I can get it back to the brand new acrylic luster? Any suggestions? I tried a drill polisher but that didnt do anything. Are there any shops that would do polishing on things like this I could ask? And would anyone hazzard a geuss to what it would be worth? Cheers guys.
Anthony
why was it sanded in the first place?
Feelers
A poor diy attempt? Apparantly you can sand this stuff though, there are a few kinda deep scratches where the sanding is.
Ira
Only thing you can do is polish...And polish...And polish...And polish...And polish...And polish...And polish...And polish a little more.
Brianemone
you can buy polishing stuff for it but i would reccomend asking at RC as the yanks use acrylic alot more that us. might pay to ask at your local plastics shop as well. on a side note that would look really cool as a seahorse tank. Feelers
I was thinking the same thing, trying to get my parents into the hobby - but to no avail. T'was a good find for free though Do you think a local plastic manufacturer would polish it for me? (for a price obviously)
monaro1
try working your way through the wet and dry sandpaper range, 200, 400, 800, 1500,then cut and polish. always use wet

Caryl
Someone has just asked me to sell their hex tank (glass). No need to polish it
Jo1
Only just saw this post sorry. We polish out scratches with wet and dry sandpaper only when scratches are deep enough to catch on your finger nail. Then you can use brasso and lots of elbow grease! Another alternative is to get hold of a buffer and buffering compound and once again it will take a bit of time but will come out like new. You could probably rig one from warehouse tools maybe??
Feelers
Just thought I'd update how its going. Well, my dad had some auto car cutting cream stuff, which worked really well for the unsanded sides. The other sides are a lot better than they were, but I think I need a w/d paper higher than 400 which is what I've got. My dad also has a drill attachment thats a buffer/sander, but on one side where I sanded with that is worse than the others  . Will try again, its looking better than it was anyways. But I think the finer w/d is gonna solve the problems.
Brianemone
should look nice once its cleaned up
Feelers
Yeah, when its all clean it will be an awsome tank - I might even keep it. There is a light built into the hood too and it came with the ug filter and other stuff. Glad I saved it from the dump!
Alan
Have you tried toothpaste followed by brasso?? Alan
Feelers
Just found out we have some brasso - made it look better, but unfortunately the side I sanded with the drill attachment is still pretty scratched, and I think all my sand paper is clogged. Will try again tomorrow.
